So, the US is officially withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, joining Syria and Nicaragua as the only three non-signatories.

On the one hand, this was totally predictable. We knew this was likely coming. That doesn't make it incredibly frustrating and sad.
—
Jacquelyn Gill (@JacquelynGill) May 31, 2017
****
On the other hand, Paris was designed to work even in the event of a Trump presidency. It was written that way, deliberately.
—
Jacquelyn Gill (@JacquelynGill) May 31, 2017
It will take four years for us to actually leave the Paris Agreement. A lot can, and likely will, happen in US politics in that time.
—
Jacquelyn Gill (@JacquelynGill) May 31, 2017
****
Secondly, India and China (two other big GHG emitters) are still signed on to Paris, and are showing real commitments to curbing emissions.
—
Jacquelyn Gill (@JacquelynGill) May 31, 2017
Thirdly, the market is moving away from fossil fuels, regardless of what Trump does, or his promises to bring coal back. Coal is done.
—
Jacquelyn Gill (@JacquelynGill) May 31, 2017
****
The Paris Agreement creates incentives for a global renewables market. That will influence US energy market even if domestic policy doesn't.
—
Jacquelyn Gill (@JacquelynGill) May 31, 2017
State govts and cities know this. Energy companies know this. While Trump is in office, we'll see more local and regional action on climate.
—
Jacquelyn Gill (@JacquelynGill) May 31, 2017
****
So, while leaving Paris is a symbol of 45's nationalist, anti-science policies, I'm hopeful we'll still see a net + movement on climate.
—
Jacquelyn Gill (@JacquelynGill) May 31, 2017
That doesn't let us off the hook, though! Stay politically engaged, push for greener choices at home and work, and fight climate silence.

We’re winning. This is just a set-back. Doesn’t feel like it, I know.
I know what you mean, magapie. I believe everything can be undone, once these miserable sods have been sentenced and removed.
What is lost is trust – who knows what will happen now every time an administration changes.
Never before to my knowledge has an administration tried to obliterate every thing the predecessor did. All that talk about pulling out of Iraq – PBO respected the agreement made with GWB. Trump respects nothing except $$$
GE.
This may have been posted earlier, but I’m just seeing it – and it’s a good tabulation.
Thanks for this post, NW. I was heartened to hear earlier that it’ll take until the day after our next presidential election to actually withdraw the United States from the Paris agreement, as these tweets confirm. Not that we want to wait that long to give trump the boot.
Too right, JO’B! We will have that mofo and his madmen outta there, and in jail, way way way before 2020!
Even if you and I have to drive them to jail ourselves, MP! I’m in for that ride. Unless it’s at GITMO, then they can make it an airlift.
Right then. One of those military cargo planes we see the troops being transported in. No comfy armrests, no champagne popsicles… nothing.
I shouldn’t laugh but *no champagne popsicles* got me! Yes, the cargo plane, the slight shove out the open back door … oops!
And I hear from ol’ BriWi that the reason Nicaragua didn’t sign was because they think it “didn’t go far enough.” Hey, trump, it’s you and Syria — AGAIN.
🌏❤️😣 {{{ TOD }}}
This is a wonderful plain, easy to understand explanation of the current situation. I have been telling people this all day
Pretty sure trump told his voters he got his policy advice from the teevee, so this shouldn’t be a surprise to them. That doesn’t make it any less unfreakinbelievable.
Every day it seems things can’t get any worse and then they do. Regardless of the effect on the clmate–which may not be as bad as we anticipate–the damage to the US as a global leader is enormous. By the time he is removed from office, China will have assumed the place previously held by the US. Yup, that is definitely making America great again by handing all of our advantages to China. I am so angry at this point I cannot stand to talk to anyone who voted for this idiot, or who supports the Republican party. Make no mistake, Trump could not inflict this much damage without the support of the GOP. This entire party needs to be removed from office.
Thank you Nerdy. You find the best and keep uplifting our spirits. 🤗
Thank you!
Good one!
Thx. The members of that crime family OWN all of it.
When an idiot went low, the Mayor of Austin, Tx went high. LOL!

“I am writing to alert you that your email account has been hacked by an unfortunate and unusually hostile individual,” wrote Adler in response. “Please remedy your account’s security right away, lest this person’s uninformed and sexist rantings give you a bad name.”
That is great! Good for you, mayor!
Thanks NW, these tweets are purrrrfect!
Hey meta!
Good Game One. Let’s Go GSW. woot!
YAAASSSS!!!!
The trump antics even have Members of Congress writing “Dear planet” tweets. Unfreakinbelievable.
Hopefully we won’t have to WAIT 3 1/2 more years.
From your fingers to God’s ears DF. It doesn’t seem possible that anyone could be as stupid as this. He has had plenty of corporations telling him not to withdraw. Then add all his other decisions, rhetoric, texts, and threats. Is he deliberately trying to get impeached, prosecuted, or what?
and/or criminally insane?
Exactly. I cringe every time I see that countdown.
He must be insane JO’B.
Certifiably. And everyone around him knows it. Never saw anybody go down as fast as he did … I think he held his crazy together until he actually “won” and then his grip on reality has been steadily coming unraveled since then.
Sorry if 45 remains for 3.5 years there will be nothing left of the United States of America. He has only been in office for less than 6 months and the damage he has created will take years to fix! Even Egyptians knew how to get rid of a democratically elected president when they realized their mistake. In this case 45 was not elected democratically. There was foreign govt rigging involved. So the question is, what is he still doing in that office?
And we know it’s not just what he’s been doing, it’s all the layers of government behind his mask that are slowing cancelling programs and research and dollars, trying to pretend President Obama (especially) and his predecessors didn’t leave anything behind for the good of the country, etc. Justice needs to be swift!
THIS 1 million times!
I’m so glad Lawrence’s contract has been renewed for two years!
I hadn’t heard! That’s great news!
Agree totally!
My Governor IS NOT PLAYING
Major companies felt that this was coming and had already made plans to circumvent this idiocy and are up and running. Gov. Jerry Brown on his way to China, Bloomberg has pledged the 14 million the US was supposed to give to the agency that was set up by the agreement for reporting etc., CEO’s University presidents, mayors, and governors are petitioning the UN to be signatories to the Paris Agreement. Bloomberg said that he believes that we can exceed the set US goal in a shorter length of time with the work that the various stakeholders are doing. Added to all of this, the rest of the world will continue to ridicule that doofus until his fat head explodes. He got his fee fees hurt because the European leaders ignored, lectured, and laughed at him and basically told him to kiss their asses, so he comes home to hurt the world. So happy that many are stepping up, realizing that “we are the ones that we have been waiting for” and that “Yes, we can.” PBO did the groundwork, gave us a firm foundation, so that we can now carry out the vision. PBO’s legacy is alive in us, we are his legacy. Everyone who marches, runs for office, votes, works with civil societies, litigates, gets the truth out, shows up to town halls even when the politician does not, those who call and harry members of congress, every Twitter warrior, and everyone who talks to others are the embodiment of PBO’s legacy. He wanted us to be active citizens who realize and use their own power to move the country forward and to change the world for the better. We are on our way.
I was at a meeting of an activist group last night and the topic of elections came up and how to prepare, participate, etc. I took a turn and talked about organizing in the model that the Obama campaign used, otherwise known as the “snowflake” model. One of the people there, that didn’t seem in a good mood in general, said to me that we should think about all of that as in the past now. It got me to thinking. None of what we learned from helping President Obama win his elections or get work accomplished during his administration is past to me. I live each day with the commitment, the engagement, and the values we share as Obama supporters and I see anyone that truly took what he was doing and how he was doing it fully to heart, carrying on without missing a beat. I’m not usre how to explain that to someone that has not been motivated to carry on the process President Obama started how “present” I feel all that is as opposed to past. The best I can do is live every day in that way, as you have so beautifully described and come on this site and talk about it with people who will understand.
Much alternative facts in 45’s speech (and Pence’s intro) yesterday.
Pete Souza, on the case as always.
No kidding….
“The national security adviser is also a current Army officer, which means he isn’t supposed to take place in partisan activity—and is supposed to always tell the whole truth.”
“It makes me uncomfortable that a serving military officer is in that role,” said a retired senior military officer who calls McMaster a friend. “The credibility he has is precisely why they are using him as a spokesman. I think that’s unfortunate.”
“H.R. is being used here,” added a former military adviser who worked with McMaster overseas. “If he didn’t have three stars on his shoulder, he’d be useless to them. It’s the worst of all outcomes for him. He’s got this miserable interagency process and then gets trotted out to defend the most inane and corrupting things,” said the adviser who spoke anonymously, like others in this story, fearing reprisals from the Trump administration.
Current and former army military officers have expressed to The Daily Beast unease with how the Trump White House has sent McMaster repeatedly into the political breach to defend the commander in chief’s actions to the American public.
45 is the Typhoid Mary to the careers of anyone who has anything to do with him. PBO’s staff, on the other hand, have boundless opportunities in front of them and for the rest of their lives they can say proudly that they worked in his administration.
This child president…when others aren’t fawning over him and kissing up to him, he’s offended and doesn’t want to play with them anymore.
Kid President has more maturity than the current Oval Office occupier.
Good Friday morning, NW and TODville!!
Thanks meta, that was a great morning read!
So fun to imagine all the interesting things PBO has done and all the good people he’s met. What a life!!
Cute story:)
Thanks a lot for sharing. Nice to know that many people see & admire what the TOD village sees & admires in PBO
What a wonderful story Meta. Thanks for sharing this. I actually shed a tear when I read “It was a little blue jewelry box. Inside were gold presidential cuff links. I pull them out from time to time. I wonder if they are real gold. But I would never have them appraised. I already know their value.”
He is a beautiful gentleman.
Hey to all those who thought the big time business man was going to bring the jobs back. The big time businessman isn’t doing any better then the community organizer.
So which one was it???? Business or Diplomacy??? Or maybe something more sinister???
Can I be a little catty? Ivanka’s make-up reminds me of the white trash on Milwaukee’s south side when I was growing up in the 60’s.
Good morning, afternoon and evening, TOD!
It was very heartening to read PBO’s statement on the Paris Agreement. I was also thrilled to read of the Obama’s deciding to purchase their DC rental home. There’s something symbolic in that to me. Although I absolutely feel that the Obama’s now owe the world nothing at all, because they gave selflessly and fought against unprecedented obstruction, racism, and staggering ignorance for over 8 years, I’m pretty certain they have very grave concerns about the worthless, small-minded POS presently occupying the WH. After all, besides their own future, they have two daughters just entering young adulthood to think about. So although I would totally understand them just washing their hands of the rotting mess in the WH, and walking away, that’s not the kind of people they are. They CARE about your country and it’s citizens and the rest of the world’s citizens as well. There’s just too much on the line now.
So to me, and I could be wrong, purchasing their DC home means they’re gearing up to stay in the fight in a massive way, to really get in the faces of, and really challenge and piss off, and help to eventually get rid of the present (lack of) administration.
It will also really mess with 45’s small mind to know that PBO has decided to stay within arm’s reach of the WH and DC’s movers and shakers for the foreseeable future.
Did 45 get his messages crossed? I thought he takes his cues from Putin.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Putin has his puppet do stupid stuff to screw over the U.S., then does his own thing to make it even worse.
I love that Congressman Lieu was like..
Hell yeah, Kushner committed a felony. Don’t give none of that bullshyt that he FORGOT to add those meetings to his Security Clearance application.
No hemming or hawing-yes, a FELONY
Isn’t it so funny that they all forgot the same meetings with Russians then added them later when questioned about it?
Speaking of a child.
LarryO reported last night that Dolt45 withdrew from the Accords because Macron hurt his fee fees?
The Everloving PHUCK
A little morning gorgeousness
Girl, you are fierce on Twitter! Love reading your no-holds-barred Tweets. I am more of retweet/comment person at this point, but will be upping my game soon. BTW, I am not the CEB that you may see posting there.
Thank you! twitter is for me a great way to stand up for PBO, for truth and for our shared values.
Idiot. We must vote for Democrats to fill up and take a majority in Congress….to put the brakes on these ignorant and dangerous people in power.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/mike-pence-climate-change-us-vice-president-paris-agreement-issue-left-for-some-reason-donald-trump-a7769081.html
I live in Florida and this is frightening. While Matthew was not as bad as predicted when it hit my area last year, some neighborhoods were with out power from 2 days to 2 weeks, homes damaged, trees down everywhere. However, soon after federal help was available. Under PBO, FEMA was so efficient (Craig Fulgate was the head) that you no longer saw negative articles and news casts about its performance. One of my favorite PBO smart moves, was during the time of Hurricane Sandy (I Think), he had a live discussion in the EO with carious Governors on video conference and asked each of them individually if there was anything else that they needed beyond the steps FEMA had already taken. All said no and he had the proof if they, or anyone else tried to lie on him about the federal response. PBO knew he had to have receipts and he collected them.
The Weather Channel trolled the lies of 45 and GOP climate change deniers with facts and photo receipts yesterday. Our side is smart, witty, and creative. If we add this to being focused enough to stick with issues and follow through to the ballot box, we can turn the country around.
A caller to progressive radio yesterday afternoon was from FL. She said they just got revised evacuation plans for hurricane season to take into account the rising sea levels!
This is good. Thanks for finding and sharing.
LIVE NOW: House Minority Leader Pelosi holds weekly news briefing – http://abcnews.go.com/live/video/special-live-3?cid=share_twitter_widget
Politico Magazine has a great article by Michael Grunwald: “Why Trump Actually Pulled out of Paris.” Points out the Obama animus, what PBO did and did not do (as refutation against the lies floating in Trump-land) in regard to the accord, and that 45’s reasons for pulling out had nothing to do with what he said, and the GOP’s responsibility in all of this, as well as other insights that many of us know, but others may not.
Another thing that I have noticed is now writers are putting “President”, often without “former” in front of PBO’s name when they seldom did it during his tenure, and leaving the honorific off of 45’s name. Too late; they showed us who they were long ago.
One thing that you can take solace in is that by using President for PBO & not for the homegrown demagogue, this is something that will bother the petty & racist scoundrel #45. We all know he noticed these things & will get him upset
Yep, I’ve noticed that too, I was reading an article the other day and the author kept saying President Obama. It’s like they don’t even want to acknowledge Trump as President.
In other, less consequential news…
Dudette, I am so glad to hear this wonderful news. Thinking of you.

LF= Labor Force….
BEAUTIFUL!
Even though he was there to highlight the effects of climate change, he had so much fun when he was in Alaska. He breathed deeply, smiled and reveled in the beauty of his surroundings. I loved watching him dance with the children and the Bear Grylls Running Wild shoot is a keeper. The love of the natural world is in his very bones and blood.
Thread. Really.
Boy did he speak for me!
Makes me proud. Small victories
Good for AZ, df! And I believe I heard last night that even Nicaragua didn’t sign the accord, because “it didn’t go far enough.”
Correct:) Morning, booms:)
Bannon and crew are turning on Kushner. Hahahahaaaa. They’re all a bunch of vipers.
Yeah, it’s the new soap opera at the WH: As the Stomach Turns! Gag.
This was always going to happen, the question was who is going first. Remember Kushner is Jewish, extremely hated by many of these nationalists including 45. They believe Israel is a free loading state feeding off the US and not paying their fair share. Jared has been giving cover to 45 for a long time and so, so deserves everything he gets. They were always coming for him, the only reason he is still standing is one word; Ivanka, Remove her and they will destroy him and his family! They are probably trying to find a way to put a wedge between them and thus if he is smart, he would beware of traps. LOL
Pete’s photos of our nature-loving president captioned with the words of this iconic song have brought tears to my eyes. Pete loved and respected our PBO so much. He saw the man up close and personal for years, and now that he can step back from the intensity of the job, he can show the world who he was, what he did, and how our president’s greatness is in such stark contrast to what we have now. Pete also shows us that you take whatever you have and use it to resist the “clear and present danger.”
Duh.
Ed Schultz and Thom Hartman also have programming on RT. ES has gone full on DT/45 I read he was defending Kushner and asking CNN to apologize for accusing Kushner of unproven alleged crimes.
Good.

Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating possible ties between the Trump election campaign and Russia, is expanding his probe to include a grand jury investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn, three sources told Reuters.
The move means Mueller’s politically charged inquiry will now look into Flynn’s paid work as a lobbyist for a Turkish businessman in 2016, in addition to contacts between Russian officials and Flynn and other Trump associates during and after the Nov. 8 presidential election.
Federal prosecutors in Virginia are investigating a deal between Flynn and Turkish businessman Ekim Alptekin as part of a grand jury criminal probe, according to a subpoena seen by Reuters.
New post.

Did anyone see Keith Ellison on Morning Joe? Please let me know what you thought of his appearance. It was both horrendous.and embarrassing. But maybe I have it wrong. He was asked to respond to HRC’s assertion that the DNC was bankrupt and gave her nothing.
