    NFL V.P. of communications Joe Lockhart has sold his Washington, D.C. mansion to Barack and Michelle Obama.

    The Washington Post reports that Lockhart sold the home for $8.1 million to Homefront Holdings LLC, which is controlled by the Obamas. The deed transfer was recorded on Wednesday. Lockhart gets a nearly $3 million profit after buying the home for $5.295 million three years ago.

    Lockhart had originally agreed to rent the home to the Obamas but after they lived there for a few months they decided to buy it.

    Lockhart was previously the press secretary and senior adviser to Bill Clinton

    Was Scott Pelley let go as “CBS Evening News” anchor because he didn’t have the right tone on Donald Trump?
    That’s the speculation after the network announced that Pelley will return full-time to “60 Minutes,” where he’s been a fixture for six years.
    ABC News said: “CBS’ effort to brand itself as the home of hard-edged newscasts has been a success in the morning, not so much in the evening — and … Pelley paid the price for it with his job.”

      That was my impression as soon as I heard it. He was the one nightly network anchor who didn’t pull a lot of punches re: Dolt45.

      CBS did nothing to help him succeed, from what I can tell.

    Greed has to ultimately suffer a loss. Unfortunately we are led by greedy people sacrificing everything for their profit. We are the ones suffering due to their greed unless we can figure out how to stop it quickly before all the good acts are rescinded.

    I hope people can stop wasting a lot of energy trying to convince gop to turn against the homegrown demagogue and instead focus on mobilizing democrats who did not vote or were denied a chance to vote;

    …….many may deny it but most republicans support the agenda of the homegrown demagogue and will stick with him to the bitter end;

    …. they endorse his actions and speeches;

    ….. most republicans behave like a gang and will go down fighting as they support one of their own;

      A priority in screwing them over. One of the major aims of this administration is to set back the progress of Black people. They want it to be another 100 years before we progress to the point that there can be another Black president. Benefits and protections for federal employees, many of who are black, have ended or been reduced; maximum/minimums are back; reduction of funding for hbcu’s on the table, flagrant voter suppression still going on, police reforms axed, a national environment in which racists are more out-spoken and violent, intimidation in every public place and the list goes on. The fringe has become mainstream and powerful and every racists feels emboldened. We have seen this before, not surprised that is out front, and more determined than ever to not only survive, but to thrive.

      Are some Black people so confused that they didn’t hear that Trump was the chief Birther, discriminated against Black and Brown tenants and took out a full page ad demanding the death penalty for Black and Brown teens accused of a crime? How clear does Trump have to be to make some Black people understand that he hates our guts?

          “how can one scumbag destroy so much in so short a time!!!!!”

          THIS! THIS is what has been keeping me speechless on the blog, Linda. To see how much planning, effort, time, etc, etc, the Obama Admin had to expend to get stuff in place and then to see this idiotic, malevolent scumbag(thank you) run madly around trying to wipe out everything IN SO SHORT A TIME is mind boggling to me! IMO, something is wrong with a system in which good progress for citizens can be so quickly and easily upended. A new government (of whatever stripe) should have to go through legal means to upend programs that are provably good for the nation. Heck, PBO’s Admin went through stages to remove ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and that was a horrible law.

    It will be interesting to see the economic cost of Trump’s America is loss of tourism dollars this summer. Travel to the US is already down; most people do not want to spend their money in such a hateful place. Conversely, Americans will not be so welcome overseas. It was nice to travel during the Obama years; people liked us and were envious of us because of his leadership. Now we will have to lie like we did during Dubya years and claim that we are Canadian to avoid conflict and censure. During the Olympic trials, athletes were told not to wear any USA regalia to remain safe. It is sad to be in a time that is worse than it was during Dubya’s time when we are all tarred with the malfeasance of 45 and the crooks who are dismantling many things that made the country admired.

    I now think Trump resigning, being Impeached, or even going to jail is not enough. His appointed administration and all they have done since taking office needs to be recognized as illegitimate and rolled back requiring a new election. In the few months he has been in office the GOP has done lasting damage to their country. Yes, Citizens United made this possible along with many other strategies used to sway our elections.

      I think the most effective punishment for him is somehow taking away his assets — personal and business; thus, taking away his lifestyle. It will have to extend to his children and extended family. Of course, there’s no telling what he has hidden and where.

    The Vatican, which under Pope Francis’ insistence has strongly backed the Paris climate change deal, would see a U.S. exit as a slap in the face and a “disaster for everyone,” a senior official said on Thursday.

    At their meeting last month, the pope gave U.S. President Donald Trump a signed copy of his 2015 encyclical letter that called for protecting the environment from the effects of climate change and backed scientific evidence that it is caused by human activity.

    Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin urged Trump in a separate meeting not to quit the Paris accord.

    “If he really does (pull out), it would be a huge slap in the face for us,” said Bishop Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, head of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, which has hosted numerous international conferences on climate change.

    “It will be a disaster for everyone,” he told the Rome newspaper La Repubblica. In a telephone call with Reuters, Sanchez Sorondo confirmed the comments in the newspaper.

    MSM headline says Trump to withdraw from Paris deal. Trump and Drillerson should read this:
    https://thinkprogress.org/exxon-climate-resolution-89373336606 Shareholder: “Climate change is one of the greatest long-term risks we face in our portfolio and has direct impact on the core business of ExxonMobil.”
    IMO Putin’s BBF Rexxon Tillerson is lying whenever he says he supports the Paris climate agreement.

    • June 1, 2017 at 3:17 pm

      “Exxon is currently under investigation by two state attorneys general — for failing to disclose what it knew about climate risk as far back as the 1970s and for funding public campaigns to sow doubt about the reality of climate change. The company’s former CEO Rex Tillerson has been implicated in the investigation.”

    • June 1, 2017 at 3:26 pm

      IMO anytime Trump starts to lift sanctions — as per lifting sanctions on Russian compounds closed in the US in response to Russian interference in our presidential election — it’s a step on the way to (normalizing) lifting sanctions on the (trillion$ money-maker)
      Exxon-Rosneft oil deal in the Siberian Arctic. IMO we’re right in our assessment that doing so is payback for the many financial
      and other favors Putin has done for Trump over the last 3 decades.

    A number of former lobbyists were granted waivers as well. For example, Shahira Knight, a special assistant to the president for tax and retirement policy, previously lobbied for Fidelity Investments, according to the Times.
