Thank you meta for posting those two videos of President Obama’s arrival in Strasbourg in 2009. I was glued to my tv that entire visit, and got goose bumps all over again watching it right now! He had a lot of mending of diplomatic relations with France after the mess GWB and his cabal of Rethugs made…..”freedom fries” condemning France for not joining in in Iraq…..they were right!…
Fortunately in 2009 we had a president who knew and understood the historical relationship between France and the U.S. If not for France and their general who trained our troops, their treasury, and their fleet that sailed into Yorktown at the right time, we would not have defeated England. People need to learn their history. Fortunately, President Obama knows it and understands ramifications.

    • May 25, 2017 at 8:35 pm

I’m so glad you enjoyed them, carolyn. It’s such a pleasure to have these documented memories of PBO’s successes. I love how he was greeted and appreciated in France and thought it would be a good counter-balance to the ugly and thoughtless arrogance we’ve seen today.

It crossed my mind yesterday that the Russians aren’t the only ones that can get in people’s heads. Barack Obama when paired with good intelligent people brings out their delight and their determination to join him in his struggle to wage peace. Others that perhaps have less character but are working with him to some degree seem to change and to rise to greater sincerity and become partners even if they didn’t plan to with his compassion for humanity. Medjedev for one I think of, so much so that Putin had to get back into power to stop the changes. Cameron is another that seemed to develop more character the more he worked with PBO. Of course there are also those that are so insanely insecure that he drives them to decompensate like Trump and Putin. Its just interesting how PBO gets into and under people’s skins. I know he’s gotten under mine and I am so much the better for it.

Well said! Thank you for that reminder catrst! I think (know, really) that is why PBO is in Europe now, to counter the shame and disfunction of il Buffone Arancione (the Orange Buffoon); to remind folks that Americans are not all idiots, that Putin and racist populism via FB are not invincible unless we surrender to it, and to be an example to other leaders. He is still my President!

Respect is an earned attribute, so when PBO appeared with other leaders in groups they all made a prominent place for PBO. Shitgibbon on the other hand is deservedly ignored. It must eat shitgibbons heart out that ex PBO can attract a 70,000 crowd in his appearance with Chancellor Merkel. Anyway it was wonderful listening to PBO masterly articulate his mastery of the subject matters he engaged him. Wonderful.

Looks as though they’re still at 25% returns. Boy, when even the ticker includes this (about Gianforte), you might normally be toast as a candidate – were it not for all the mail-in votes already received before yesterday:

‘Greg Gianforte, a Republican technology executive who was charged with assault on Wednesday night, faces Rob Quist, the Democratic candidate and folk singer’

          May 25, 2017 at 11:25 pm

Since it’s a special election, I think he’d have to run again next year to be voted out then … but technically, I think Paul Ryan can refuse to seat him in the House this term, which no doubt he won’t do, and we can be pretty sure Gianbodyslammer won’t go away quietly. So, the GOP now has a new poster boy for what scum looks like up close.

          • May 26, 2017 at 8:57 am

Ryan has already indicated he won’t step in. I forget his comment, but it was something about well the people elected him and so of course he’ll be seated. As if there was nothing he could do about it

        • May 26, 2017 at 9:02 am

Well the Bernie purists are of course blaming Perez, the DNC, etc, etc. However I think it’s significant that the Republicans had to spend an enormous amount of money on what was basically a safe seat. Voters may be fooled and our voters may be fooled but I bet their leadership is paying a lot of attention. Their voters maybe fooled, and our voters may be fooled but I bet their leadership is paying a lot of attention.. There are a lot of places that are way more flippable than this district.

Ah! I’ve been hearing this song everywhere too! Heard it on the radio. They used it in “Into the Badlands” and I’ve heard it in at least one other TV series episode. I think it was either “This Is Us (btw, ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø) or American Gods – can’t remember which for sure.

Great song! Powerful video! Thanks so much for bringing it here! 😘

        • May 26, 2017 at 9:03 am

It’s mesmerizingly gorgeous, it’s intriguing, it’s weird, it’s creepy, it’s maddening! You wanna not look at some parts, but you can’t take your eyes off it. Ian McShane (Mr. Wednesday) is a slithery, slick bucket of ooey badness (and, by bad, I mean AWESOME)!! And Ricky Whittle, who plays Shadow Moon, makes me purr!!! šŸ˜

I’ve never read a thing by Neil Gaiman. Had heard of him, though. Now I wanna read everything he’s done!

            • May 26, 2017 at 12:22 pm

Ooh! I like Ian McShane. The Shabbat bits is completely awesome. But I’ve not read anything else by Gaiman and I’ve read it’s a bit different than his regular stuff, darker. But now I want to read it all.

As a parent I wouldn’t quit until she was fired. I remember when my eldest now 39 was in 6th grade and his teacher referred to him as “colored” at our parent/teacher conference… along with mixing him up with another boy in class who was AA. She had no place as a teacher, none. I made sure I went to all the powers that be & told them so. She retired 6 months later. I am not sorry that she was unable to continue teaching young minds.

          May 26, 2017 at 9:49 am

There wasn’t ever a chance Dems were going to pick up this seat, from everything I’ve read. Except the naive who don’t understand that all politics is local. Also, GOP shouldn’t have had to spend a penny there, and they threw huge $$ at this race. Sure, it would have been an over-the-top joy if Quist had won, but it’s still a good result, nationally. Clymer is absolutely right: Dems tend to fold up the tent if they don’t get everything, instantly. Let’s learn the few lessons GOP have to teach us: we fight harder, louder, and make it clear that The Resistance is not going away.

          • 120 mtmarilyn
            May 26, 2017 at 10:32 am

Thanks 57, what you say is all true. I love Montana, and America. I am just so worried about all the folks that done see what is happening. All the things they take for granted can go away because all they see and hear are the bullet points.
They all believe that it’s Nancy Pelosi and the liberal agenda that has made it all bad. Also the far left here, the Bernie bros. You know Bernie would of won. I won’t argue with them because they don’t listen to facts. Having all these rich white bigot thugs in our government is so scary.

            • May 26, 2017 at 10:08 pm

If it helps, voters interviewed today said the Sanders’ support made then decide to vote of Gianforte, despite not liking him.

                May 26, 2017 at 10:43 pm

I saw that too. I do believe it. The moderates and independents in MT don’t like Bernie. But so many of the Dems here are far left. They blame the DNC, etc. They are purists.

          • May 26, 2017 at 10:12 pm

GOP spent almost $8 per voter; Dems spent .94. There are a lot of swing districts that will be easier for us to flip which will mean even more money spent by the GOP. They can’t keep that up.

        HHHahahaaaa, good catch, seƱor amk!!!!

There’s a bus I sometimes grab across the street that takes me downtown. On any given day, you can hear English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Italian and Russian speakers. Doesn’t bother me a bit. In fact, I celebrate it. If you’re not a flaming racist, it shouldn’t matter.

Oh, and there’s an opera singer that lives in the next building who practices at home fairly frequently. Right now he’s singing an Italian aria. LOLz.

Parents in Germany who fail to seek medical advice on vaccinating their children could face fines of up to €2,500 (Ā£2,175; $2,800).

Health Minister Hermann Grƶhe said it was necessary to tighten the law because of a measles epidemic.

A mother of three died of measles in the city of Essen this week.

The government wants kindergartens to report any parents who cannot prove they have had a medical consultation.

However, Germany is not yet making it an offence to refuse vaccinations – unlike Italy.

Speaking to the popular daily Bild, Mr Grƶhe said: “Continuing deaths from measles cannot leave anyone indifferent.”

We had the same antivax shite spread via twittter and whatsapp spreading all kindsa lies.
