Mayor Landrieu’s Address on Confederate Monuments …

One quote of particular interest, from the transcript:

“Last year, President Barack Obama echoed these sentiments about the need to contextualize and remember all of our history. He recalled a piece of stone, a slave auction block engraved with a marker commemorating a single moment in 1830 when Andrew Jackson and Henry Clay stood and spoke from it.

“President Obama said, ‘Consider what this artifact tells us about history … on a stone where day after day for years, men and women … bound and bought and sold and bid like cattle on a stone worn down by the tragedy of over a thousand bare feet. For a long time the only thing we considered important, the singular thing we once chose to commemorate as history with a plaque were the unmemorable speeches of two powerful men.’

“A piece of stone – one stone. Both stories were history. One story told. One story forgotten or maybe even purposefully ignored.”

… Pope Francis asked [Melania] Trump, “What do you give him to eat — potica?” … The Pope was asking Slovenian-born Melania Trump about a nut-filled cake known in her homeland as “Potica.” He tasted the traditional treat when Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar visited the Vatican in 2015. http://nydn.us/2rT6Olk

I knew this was coming; I love how so many are providing c/c reminders of how good we had it with PBO as opposed to the disaster we are currently enduring. I also read, that Pope Francis spoke only Spanish to them even though he is fluent in English.

OMG I want to hug @OuterBoroRoyal!

What a collection of photos (still think Japan PM Abe is my fav — he was so mortified, he was unable to suppress his reaction to FUBAR president mauling him).

Hope there are more photo comparisons between PBO and FLOTUS44 meeting Pope Francis — remember how warm (and giggly) their meeting in Rome was — so much joy and fun — whereas today’s photo looks like a still from an upcoming horror movie. (What’s with wearing black when meeting @pontifex? Is this protocol for women when meeting the Pope?)

BENEN on Maddowblog today: “13 conservative white guys — have been quietly crafting their own legislation.
In fact, “quietly” is a polite way of describing the Senate process. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has insisted on as much secrecy as he can muster, and he’s made a deliberate decision to exclude all Senate Democrats — 48% of the chamber, representing more than 50% of the country — from the deliberations. (There is some irony to the fact that Donald Trump is looking for ways to force Democrats to the negotiating table, while GOP leaders block Dems from reaching that table.)”
…Long memories of GOP faux accusations and about transparency during the long and televised ACA process…

      May 24, 2017 at 11:19 am

My sociopathic Trump wannabe boss said GOP wasn’t allowed in ACA negotiations. I schooled him: they were invited and REFUSED to participate. But let’s never let the truth get in the way of the GOP agenda and mind games.
