This is so hard to watch. At this time the state of Montana does not have any representation in DC. We have no one to call. I have called those in charge, Paul, etc. But most have said they hear me but I’m not from their district.

I have called multiple offices & will call again tomorrow. Yes, as a person with many pre-existing conditions, this vote is deeply personal & a source of tremendous fear. As a person who was in the process of quiting my job & dedicating my life on the independently formulated socioeconomic justice projects, this vote puts an huge obstacle in my path. As a person who has spent a significant amount of time in hospitals, i know how many people are so vulnerable & yet can barely afford huge medical bills
But most importantly, as a person who believes very deeply in healthcare as a basic right, I am furious with the people who choose to play politics with people’s lives.

Because I have become very cynical over these past months… the question that goes through my head frequently: What makes any of us believe that we’ll still have elections in 2018?

I’m going to say this word: nazi- isn’t it true that they also killed non-jews who were sick, elderly, disabled? How is taking away healthcare (in essence that is exactly what Trumpcare is) any different than literally killing off millions of people. Doesn’t it equate that if there are less of us- the masses, the people- that there is more goods/stuff for them- the wealthy, the haves? First the deportations that are ongoing… yet when do we see them? When does our “media” report/show us these deportations? Deportations removing hundreds/thousands of people… next the removal of healthcare, particularly pre-existing conditions, including special needs children. How long until disability & social security go? No one has stopped trump and republicans,, and frankly all this “investigating” appears to be moving at the pace of a snail. Who will stop them from taking away our voting rights? At what point does trump & co. choose to ignore these laws too? Who has stopped him from literally breaking all the others? Seriously – his children are in positions of power in our govt. That is unthinkable in American democracy.. yet here we are.

      May 4, 2017 at 7:52 am

Oh and then theres the “religious liberty” EO being signed today… allowing discrimination against gays- how many will lose their homes/ jobs… another form of killing off the people.

I fluctuate Betsy, between my cynical view and my hope that we will beat this. I worry about the deportations & how on earth do we undo that and put people’s lives back together.

    • 44 vcprezofan2
      May 4, 2017 at 3:38 pm

Sheri, these are among some of the questions I have been asking myself – in particular ‘Who will stop Trump?’ And the reason I’ve been mostly quiet in the village is because I see very little progress or no clear answer. I am flabbergasted by the freedom that goon has had to date to place idiots and family wherever in senior positions, and to do whatever the heck he dreams up!

12:09 a.m. March 22, 2010. Treaty Room in the private residence. 80 minutes after Congress had passed the Affordable Care Act. The President was reading text messages on his Blackberry while waiting to make thank you calls. Someone had sent a message that ended with “your mother would be so proud.” (His mother had died from ovarian cancer. She had spent her last days worrying whether insurance was going to cover some of the medical expenses because they might consider her cancer a pre-existing condition.)

  35. 62 desertflower

The implications of these changes are vast. The Brookings Institution notes that if a single state eliminated the cap on lifetime benefits for a single employee, then employers in every state could actually follow suit, thus bringing back a horrid feature of the pre-Obamacare system, in which people who get hit with expensive treatment suddenly discover that their insurer will no longer pay for their care. This would affect not only those getting insurance through Medicaid or the state exchanges, but also through their job.

They are rushing through a chamber of Congress a bill reorganizing one-fifth of the economy, without even cursory attempts to gauge its impact. Its budgetary impact is as yet unknown. The same is true of its social impact, though the broad strokes are clear enough: Millions of Americans will lose access to medical care, and tens of thousands of them will die, and Congress is eager to hasten these results without knowing them more precisely. Their haste and secrecy are a way of distancing the House Republicans from the immorality of their actions.

Reminder! House Republicans love Obamacare. We know they do because they voted to keep it for themselves,(they exempted themselves from their toxic bill) while they fuck YOU over!

“Despite amendments and charges, the AHCA still fails to provide for the needs of my constituents,” she adds. “I will not support a bill that has the potential to severely harm the health and lives of people in South Florida and therefore I remain steadfast in my commitment to vote NO on the AHCA. The recent addition of further funds to high risk pools continues to be inadequate and fails to cover those who need it most.”
“If enacted, the older and poorer South Floridians will be worse off and will find it more difficult to obtain quality healthcare. My constituents should not have to take a step backward in their ability to obtain treatment for any illness and thus, I will vote NO.”

    It’s not just South Florida…

Even if you have employer provided healthcare…like most people, you will be effected

The Wall Street Journal reports today, however, on a provision of the Republican legislation that could affect those who thought they were safe from the GOP’s bill.
Many people who obtain health insurance through their employers — about half of the country — could be at risk of losing protections that limit out-of-pocket costs for catastrophic illnesses, due to a little-noticed provision of the House Republican health-care bill to be considered Thursday, health-policy experts say.

The provision, part of a last-minute amendment, lets states obtain waivers from certain Affordable Care Act insurance regulations. Insurers in states that obtain the waivers could be freed from a regulation mandating that they cover 10 particular types of health services, among them maternity care, prescription drugs, mental health treatment and hospitalization.

That could also affect plans offered by large employers, health analysts said.
When implementing the ACA, the Obama administration said employers could choose any state’s requirements for health benefits, because it didn’t make a practical difference: the law mandated certain benefits for the nation, establishing a floor that no state could fall below.

The Wall Street Journal’s report, however, notes that the Republican plan would empower states to establish new and lower benefits benchmarks — which would open the door to employers everywhere choosing to follow the standards of the state with the worst standards.

“By choosing a waiver state, employers looking to lower their costs could impose lifetime limits and eliminate the out-of-pocket cost cap from their plans under the GOP legislation,” the article explained.

I used the AARP line and got through. The regular lines never seemed to work right.

FYI for anyone who needs it: the AARP line to call is: 844-259-9352. Call that and they connect you through to your Congressperson when you enter your zip code. People are reporting they are picking up AARP calls. Maybe it comes through as an AARP call and they can see that?

She supposedly loved PBO, is a black woman whose two sons are also half jewish. She was spouting all kinds of anti immigrant bs during the election. When I begged her, saying “But they will take away my health insurance!” SHe replied, “Well, it took them awhile to pass it, so it will probably take awhile for them to take it away.” 😾

I don’t know how I can sit and have lunch with her, like nothing has changed.

The merciless ones laugh at us and drink beer in self-congratulations.
