What shit is Trump trying to pull by demanding that entire Senate come to White House rather than other way around for “security briefing” on North Korea?

This post is of Pope Francis giving a marvelous talk on “the revolution of tenderness.” I love it. It’s about 17 minutes in Italian with English subtitles. It’s a wonderful inspiring vision of humankind and the future we could share. His language and vision is so much like Pres. Obama.

Apparently repealing Obamacare could violate international law

The United Nations has contacted the Trump administration as part of an investigation into whether repealing the Affordable Care Act without an adequate substitute for the millions who would lose health coverage would be a violation of several international conventions that bind the United States. It turns out that the notion that “health care is a right” is more than just a Democratic talking point.

A confidential, five-page “urgent appeal” from the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner on Human Rights in Geneva, sent to the Trump administration, cautions that the repeal of the Affordable Care Act could put the United States at odds with its international obligations. The Feb. 2 memo, which I obtained Tuesday, was sent to the State Department and expresses “serious concern” about the prospective loss of health coverage for almost 30 million people, which could violate “the right to social security of the people in the United States.”

Interesting take, but do you honestly think Trump and the GOP would give a damn about international law?

Some people, on the left and the right, have a problem with 44 getting paid Beyonce prices for talking about intellectual things. If he was getting out on a stage, shucking and jiving, they’d have no problem with it…..

“Though the colored man is no longer subject to be bought and sold, he is still surrounded by an adverse sentiment which fetters all his movements. In his downward course he meets with no resistance, but his course upward is resented and resisted at every step of his progress. If he comes in ignorance, rags, and wretchedness, he conforms to the popular belief of his character, and in that character he is welcome. But if he shall come as a gentleman, a scholar, and a statesman, he is hailed as a contradiction to the national faith concerning his race, and his coming is resented as impudence. In the one case he may provoke contempt and derision, but in the other he is an affront to pride and provokes malice. Let him do what he will, there is at present, therefore, no escape for him. The color line meets him everywhere, and in a measure shuts him out from all respectable and profitable trades and callings.”

      GM rikyrah.

Saw on Twitter yesterday complaints about $ from bankers, but with everything else going on in the world now because of DJT and his supporters (including our corrupt GOP congress), it’s apparent that nothing anyone says, including the esteemed Frederick Douglass, will persuade critics to change their mind.

The Obama Foundation center will be very expensive to build, and PBO has to do it on his own — unlike DJT, he can’t turn taxpayer dollars into a spigot that directly feeds his own personal bank account.

This is not my best tweet (can be read that I’m criticizing PBO, but I’m not — just tried to point out that the Obama Foundation Center will include an event center — and anyone in a community that has built one of those with local taxpayer dollars knows how expensive these are to build).

If I followed her segments right, Flynn was not only taking money, but didn’t tell anyone about the money.

    His Security Clearance had EXPIRED.

This White House will not produce the paperwork for the re-issuance of his Security Clearance.
I am inclined to believe that there is NO PAPERWORK, and these muthaphckas hired a National Security Advisor with NO SECURITY CLEARANCE.

    • April 26, 2017 at 10:25 am

Considering all we know about this Trump cabal, that makes sense. Although I really don’t believe that they didn’t know about all of Flynn’s nefarious activities, including the money. I think Trump most likely encouraged all of it.

  32. April 26, 2017 at 10:20 am

OMG, is this is true, it’s going to hurt a lot of people and will be a huge blow to Obamacare. CSR = cost sharing reduction, the provision that lowers the amount you have to pay for deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.

No doubt that it will cause great pain to a great many number of people. Unfortunately some of the people that benefit from Obamacare were the same people that voted for Trump, and now they find themselves in a pickle of their own making.

Yes. The country’s first black President must abnegate himself, while failed, putrid, white politicians can own three homes and not release their tax returns.

It seems like I have to repeat myself, because people just don’t get the message: BARACK OBAMA OWES US NOTHING. He’s not your magic Negro. He’s not your Daddy. He’s not your Chosen One. You put all that on him. He is a man who answered a call to serve, and served better than most people who occupied his office. And he served while being castigated from both Right and Left. Don’t forget, St. Bernard of Sanders opined that it would be right and proper were Pres. Obama primaried in 2012. Barack Obama had to suffer slings and arrows from his “friends” as much, if not more so, than from his “enemies”.

This was sent last night by our Seattle Indivisible team leader. He has agreed that it may be used as a template by others wishing to contact Congress:

“This is a copy of an email I sent to the White House tonight. I heartily encourage anyone who wishes to write their own email about this. I also welcome anyone who wants to use this as a template. I plan to send copies to my members of Congress and to Reps Cummings and Chaffetz at a more reasonable hour tomorrow:

      To the Trump administration,

Today the Chair of the House Oversight Committee, Jason Chaffetz, and the ranking Democrat on the Committee, Elijah Cummings announced that they received a response to a written request for documents pertaining to former National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn’s receipt of security clearance, the objectives of trips he’s taken to foreign countries, content of meetings with foreign nationals and foreign government ambassadors and, and details of any payments he received. The response from the White House was a refusal to comply with their request. The cited reasons for refusal were that the White House is not in possession of the documents, and that some of the documents contain classified information that they cannot share.

This is unacceptable to the American people. Part of our government’s system of checks and balances grants Congress the right and responsibility to investigate possible abuses or violations of law by the executive branch. This includes giving them the right and the power to demand any documents pertaining to Mr. Flynn’s dealings and security clearance level at the time that he was involved with the campaign and then the administration. They have the right to get a subpoena for these documents which would put our presidential administration in contempt of court if they don’t produce them.
This is essential information to Congress’s investigation into the attacks on our election system by Russian intelligence operatives that may have been coordinated with members of the Trump campaign, and later the Trump administration. Not that it matters, but this is a bipartisan request for these documents.

In short, giving Congress the power to subpoena these documents is one way the framers of the Constitution worked to ensure that our country continues to be a nation of laws, not of men.

As a citizen, I respectfully request that the Trump administration hand over whatever documents that the House Oversight Committee requires to conduct an investigation into this debacle that will have any semblance of credibility with the American people.

If that minimal cooperation with the investigation cannot be reached, that is evidence that the only way for the investigation to proceed is if it’s carried out by an independent investigation run by a special prosecutor with no ties to the Trump administration.

Thank you for your prompt compliance with your lawful duty,

      Tom Dickerson”

Why does President Obama have to give his money away, why does he have to give it to charity just to show a group of people that were never in his corner in the first place that he’s a good person? Fuck that shit, I hope he goes out and buys a fucking yacht and hosts billionaires on a weekly basis. The Clintons made over one hundred million dollars since leaving the Whitehouse but Obama got to walk the fucking earth with a tin cup and perform for you, fuck that shit.

He seems to have decided on a strategy to absolve the homegrown demagogue and his team from the Russian scandal, by pushing everyone to focus on flynn. Whenever you can, please focus your communication on the fact that Flynn didn’t act alone. Rather, it was collusion including so many gop scumbags starting with Orange Cheeto, to pence, turtle, granny-starver and many power-hungry & money-laundering elected gop at all levels of government. All need to be prosecuted for crimes against their country & it’s people. Nothing less can suffice

Dozens of Colleges’ Upward Bound Applications Are Denied for Failing to Dot Every I
‘It’s more about format than it is about content’

    By Goldie Blumenstyk
    APRIL 26, 2017

For the want of double spacing in a small section of a 65-page grant application, 109 low-income high-school students will be cut off from a program at Wittenberg University that has been providing them with tutoring and counseling to prepare them for college. And they’re not alone. Over the past few weeks at least 40 colleges and organizations with similar Upward Bound programs have also had their grant applications summarily rejected by the U.S. Department of Education for running afoul of rules on mandatory double-spacing rules, use of the wrong font, or other minor technical glitches.

The affected colleges, whose programs serve at least 2,400 low-income students, and the members of Congress who represent them are furious, especially because their appeals to the department for reconsideration have so far been met with little sympathy or indication of any sort of resolution.
