    I really don’t think when Michelle Obama was growing up in Chicago, even she could have ever predicted where her life would take her … although, maybe in her “young-girl dreams,” she did!

    I ❤ ❤ ❤ it! (So of course I went looking if there was a back story).

    SOUTH SHORE — A Chicago artist has finished his mural of Michelle Obama in a colorful image that features the former first lady as an Egyptian queen.

    The painting by artist Chris Devins was completed Friday on the southeast corner of Chappel Avenue and 74th Street in South Shore. That's two blocks from the former first lady's childhood home at 7436 S. Euclid Ave. and across the street from Bouchet Elementary, which she attended when it was known as Bryn Mawr School.

    "I wanted to present her as what I think she is, so she's clothed as an Egyptian queen. I thought that was appropriate," Devins said Friday.

    …………………………

    Devins said CPS rejected putting the mural on Bouchet because the district does not allow murals on schools. But he didn't mind the location on a building across street.

    "I wanted to keep my original promise so students can see right now across from the playground," he said. "It gives them a sense of pride."

      This could be a thieft. An black female artist may have been the originator of this portrait. She is on Instagram as ” thick-east-african-girl”. Apparently Chris Devins reproduced the portrait and did not credit the originator of the piece. Does anyone have more info on this angle of the story?

      I have seen thick east African girl’s Instagram site and there is a video of the process for creating the M.Obama portrait and there are many more portraits, including another portrait of the Obamas
      ;but I would like to know more about this dispute.

        Here are some of those lessons which I will keep with me:

        1. Kindness is more than a virtue. It is a source of strength. If we teach our children to be kind and remind each other of the same, we can live from a place of strength, not fear.

        2. We will only be successful in addressing addiction – and other illnesses – when we recognize the humanity within each of us. People are more than their disease. All of us are more than our worst mistakes.

        3. Healing happens when we are able to truly talk to and connect with each other. That means listening and understanding. It means assuming good, not the worst. It means pausing before we judge.

        4. The world is locked in a struggle between love and fear. Choose love. Always. It is the world’s oldest medicine. It is what we need to build a nation that is safe and strong for us and our children.

        The NYT headline “Nurse replaces…Surgeon General. She is so much more than a nurse (though they are totally awesome). So tired of smart women being put down, lied about, and discredited. Thanks for the information on this remarkable and gifted health officer.

        • April 22, 2017 at 10:01 am

          I saw that too, CEB. That little snippet makes her sound less than qualified. While being a nurse is nothing to sneeze at, the way it was stated was so demeaning. I’m glad I took the time to dig a little further to find out what a remarkable woman — a remarkable black woman — she is.

        Trent-Adams was deputy to Vivek Murthy, now acting in that position.

    I was trying to make this point but … well, stuff happened.

    we all know that the homegrown demagogue :

    – and his team lie a lot about everything;

    – never accepts responsibility for stuff that is wrong or is roundly criticized as short-sighted;

    – will not hesitate to publicly blame any member of the military for missions that later appear not to have been given the necessary thought;

    based on just these two reason, I want to suggest that there is a chance that reports that the General in charge of the field operations in Afghanistan decided to use the MOAB on his own may eventually turn out not to be true.

    it is more likely that the request for the ammunition was made and that the order was given by more than that one general.

    initially, the homegrown demagogue’s official team and supporters were very proud of the choice of ammunition so why are some media reports trying to place the blame on “the general” on the ground;

    I will need more confirmation about this before I can believe that …. it is just too convenient and looks like a fall guy

    • April 21, 2017 at 11:38 pm

      I happen to believe the reports that Trump signed over a lot of decision making authority to the military. I frankly don’t think he has the attention span to consider these extremely difficult issues and in reality doesn’t want to be bothered, in line with his entire “governing” style. He’s simple there to sit at that desk and say stupid things that make him feel important and make a lot more money for himself and his family and friends. What happened on the military side deserves to be investigated. We have a right to know what’s really happening in the chain of command.

      • 29 globalcitizenlinda
        April 21, 2017 at 11:59 pm

        True, he signed over most of the power to the military – just like he signed over other work to his equally corrupt daughter & son in law. He promised to do that during the campaign. He is lazy physically & intellectually and only wants to take credit for stuff that he thinks is great.

        • April 22, 2017 at 12:06 am

          Yeah, that’s how I see it. He’s extremely lazy, set in his ways, has absolutely no curiosity about anything except money and self-aggrandizement. My sense is he’s always going to take the path of doing only what’s best for him, period. He lies so much about everything because he has to prop up all that laziness and self-importance. This is all precisely what makes him so dangerous.

            WTF is wrong with so many men who want to screw over women? I hope that it becomes clear to all to whom this creativity really belongs. As for the portrait itself, Michelle Robinson Obama is more than enough just by being who she is. I am troubled by this and other images of her that I have seen when another person’s ideas of who she should be or what she represents is superimposed on them. I have had to tell people that their beloved photos of Michelle wearing her hair naturally were Photoshopped because I was familiar with the original ones in which her hair was straight.

        “At first, the distress flare of lost data came as a surge of defunct links on 21 January. The US National Strategy for the Arctic, the Implementation Plan for the Strategy, and the report on our progress all gone within a matter of minutes. As I watched more and more links turned red, I frantically combed the internet for archived versions of our country’s most important polar policies. I had no idea then that this disappearing act had just begun. Since January, the surge has transformed into a slow, incessant march of deleting datasets, webpages and policies about the Arctic.”

    I am beginning to feel hopeful that the resistance, in all of its moving parts, will continue until we self-correct our society. We have the knowledge, the skills, the creativity, the determination, and the will to succeed. There will be set backs and successes and times when we wonder if the job is too much, too hard, but we will get there to a more grown up, responsible, inclusive, and truly pluralistic society that will work better for more of us here and abroad. PBO’s greatest legacy is that he taught us to believe in ourselves and in our abilities to bring about positive and lasting change in our communities, states, countries and the world. The Obama generation has arrived.

      GA SWBG — thanks for the info on GA voting machines.

      Jon Ossoff is an impressive candidate, not interested in games, committed to working for Americans — something GOP has completely lost sight of — the only they *know* how to do is ideology and dog whistles, which is no way to run a democracy (and doesn’t justify their paychecks).

      So many awful things about this administration, but MSM continue to prop up DJT adm.’s actions as if “nothing to see here, move along…” as we meekly slide into jackbooted, autocratic, kleptocratic oligarchy.

      • April 22, 2017 at 4:27 pm

        Good Afternoon, arapaho415.

        I agree that Ossoff is an impressive candidate. Although I am not in GA06, I was in the viewing area for the campaign ads. I was so pleased that Ossoff kept it positive. He kept the focus on himself and the issues that were important to him. He was well-spoken as well as concise. On the other hand, the GOP ads that were not touting their allegiance to 45, were the typical attack ads…against Ossoff and against Handel.

        Ossoff also ran a strong grassroots campaign. While many — especially Republicans — seem to think that a runoff automatically means a GOP win I think Ossoff still has a strong chance of winning.
