Every time I see a photo of PBO, or of the First Family, or the Bidens– my heart just melts. These good people have given so much to our country, knowing that the Rethugs were scratching at the door, wanting to rip up everything they achieved. And still, their grace, their dignity, their humanity and humor and personal beauty shine like a candle, offering hope. Yes we can. Yes we have. Yes we will.

Deepest gratitude to you NerdyWonka, and all who keep the lights on here. You’re my church wardens! ❤

What will you have to say on Judgment Day, when Doomsday arrives out of the blue? Who will you get to help you? What good will your money do you?” (Isaiah 10:1-3, The Message)

      Change that “toxic” to DEADLY.

    • 47 desertflower
      April 14, 2017 at 9:12 pm

      H/T BJ….

Easter Lilies are Deadly to Cats
Lillium sp. and Hemerocallis sp. of lilies, including Easter, Asiatic, tiger, and day lilies are all incredibly toxic to cats. It is not known what causes this toxicity.

Ingesting any part of the Easter lily plant causes acute kidney failure in cats. This appears to be due to the death of kidney cells, but the exact mechanism by which it occurs is not known. Cats can be poisoned by Easter lilies in the following ways:

Eating less than one lily leaf can cause a cat to develop kidney failure.
Cats may rub up against the lilies or walk through pollen that has dropped from the flowers. When they groom the pollen off of their fur or paws and ingest it, they can be poisoned.
Chewing on and swallowing the flower of the Easter lily results in toxicity.
Signs of Easter Lily Toxicity in Cats
The following signs are seen in cats that are poisoned by Easter lilies:

      Within two hours of ingestion:
Vomiting is often the first sign of Easter lily toxicity.
Anorexia, or unwillingness to eat accompanies the vomiting.
The cat develops lethargy, and doesn’t want to move around or play.
Increased urination may be present in between two and twelve hours after the cat consumes the lily. After that, the cat may stop producing urine altogether, as the kidneys shut down.
Death usually occurs within three to four days of lily toxicity that is untreated.
If you know or even suspect that your cat may have ingested any part of a lily plant, take your cat and the plant, if you have it, to the veterinarian immediately.

The following therapies are all used to treat cats that have ingested lilies:

Induction of vomiting to remove as much of the plant as possible before it is absorbed into the cat’s system. This needs to be done fairly quickly after ingestion.
Activated charcoal is administered to the cat to absorb as much of the remaining plant product from the stomach as possible and carry it through the GI tract without allowing to be absorbed.
Intravenous fluid therapy is administered at a high rate in order to flush the system of the lily toxins and support the kidneys.
If treatment is delayed until eighteen hours or more have passed since ingestion of the lily, your cat’s prognosis for recovery decreases dramatically. When it is caught early and treated aggressively, lily toxicity usually carries a good prognosis for full recovery.

Locally, we have 4 or 5 closed Facebook groups. I shared the following personal story on 3 of them today.

A personal story showing we never know the impact our words have. Wednesday I called Jason Zachary, my state rep. My message was: Vote to drop the Durham Rule so Medicaid can be expanded in TN. I added that no one can say he/she is pro-life if the person doesn’t support Insure TN because people are dying every day in TN w/out health care. You can’t say you are pro-life and oppose people having health care. Yesterday I called back with two messages: Oppose the House bill about the gasoline tax. And, ask that he support ANY gun safety measures because “as I said yesterday, one cannot be pro-life and oppose any gun safety measure.” The woman said, “You said that yesterday and I want you to know I have thought about it since then.” She opened the door so I walked right through.:)I explained (as I see/understand this issue) the difference between being pro-life and pro-BIRTH. Gave some examples to back it up: healthcare, education, gun safety, clean air/water, etc. I said to me, ‘life’ means just that–all the succeeding years that that baby lives after it is born and the kind of life the child has–in every area/aspect. The woman thanked me again for making that point and said she would continue to think about it. #speakup

For those interested in what’s happening in North Korea, @w7voa is a good source of information.

Our dear leader seems to have a lot in common with Pyongyang’s dear leader…

Looks like it’s OK for DJT to holed up at MAL this weekend…

Many TODers probably browse Balloon juice on occasion. I was there earlier and one of the posters had just become a US citizen and was talking about it.

He said one good thing about the ceremony – usually the President records a message – which is played to the new citizens – but it seems the current pretender to the roll hasn’t bothered to do this – so they had an alternative recording.

He does NOTHING that he is supposed to do. He seems to have no advisers that have any idea what he should be doing and his life is spent golfing and telling himself how great he is. I don’t know what goes on in North Korea but otherwise I can’t think of another world leader who does less than this excuse for a person.

What irks me the most is that this guy gets away with breaking the most obvious laws, I could understand if the guy ran some sort of complex scheme to break the law. But no, this guy walks around stealing apples from apple carts in broad daylight in front of everybody and nothing happens to me.

Trump is also HEAVILY provoking an attack on the U.S.A. from ISIS.
So one more thing Trumputin can do: 1) open his gob 2) wave hands about and 3) sign off regardless on military.
Rexxon and longtime buddy Putin just met behind closed doors – topic most likely was sanctions blocking their Exxon/Rosneft deal.

The Trump White House is so incompetent that they found a Trump adviser not by interviewing experts, but by having Jared Kushner search Amazon.

Vanity Fair has the inside story:

At one point during the campaign, when Trump wanted to speak more substantively about China, he gave Kushner a summary of his views and then asked him to do some research. Kushner simply went on Amazon, where he was struck by the title of one book, Death by China, co-authored by Peter Navarro. He cold-called Navarro, a well-known trade-deficit hawk, who agreed to join the team as an economic adviser. (When he joined, Navarro was in fact the campaign’s only economic adviser.) Kushner operated in much the same way when it came to crafting Trump’s tax plan—calling up someone for help out of the blue. Given the initial absence of pros who could do the job properly, he also tried his hand at writing speeches. Responding to criticism from the boss (“Jared, this is terrible!”), Kushner said, according to a person familiar with the episode, “I’m not a fucking speechwriter. I am a real-estate guy.”

They will make a mockery of the Presidency, loot the coffers, redistribute wealth to the top, and use the position to increase their own wealth. Had Enough??
