When my son got his permit to drive last summer (he was 17) he was also registered to vote here in MD. He now has his voter id card and will turn 18 in July—- in time to vote in 2018. So this is awesome that CA is also doing it.

PBO always played chess while the others did not even know a game was going on. While it enraged us when the rethugs and the lefty purists attacked him, the fact that they underestimated him allowed PBO to get so much done and to tie things up so tightly that it would be difficult to unravel them. He knew his enemies better than we did and planned defense accordingly. The community organizer knew how to get shit done.

That fake smart number guy should resign. Why doesn’t he call Boehner who would have explained to him that the GOP has been possessed by Demon since the election of the first Black President and have been mounted by evil spirit since. They are all crazy. As for Shameless Ryan who called Agent Orange for what he was during the campaign then quickly locked steps with the Demagogue once it became clear that the GOP (because of a lot of shenanigans) won the presidential election, he should have known better. But he was too eager to use the American people for his experiment of no-government-in-health-care that all that mattered was the numbers he was crushing and not the millions who would have been put in peril with the AHCA. All the while, he should have used simple arithmetic to realize that he never had the votes for his People-killing bill.

It’s veered north, expected landfall approximately 670 miles north of Brisbane (which is about the distance from Los Angeles to Medford, Oregon — quite a distance).

The organisation seems good – I have a cousin who has been evacuated out of the area. We just hope it hits land outside of a populated area.

    WTF????
Talk about a shadow government– is this even legal?

‘ President Donald Trump plans to unveil a new White House office on Monday with sweeping authority to overhaul the federal bureaucracy and fulfill key campaign promises – such as reforming care for veterans and fighting opioid addiction – by harvesting ideas from the business world and, potentially, privatizing some government functions.
The White House Office of American Innovation, to be led by Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, will operate as its own nimble power center within the West Wing and will report directly to Trump. Viewed internally as a SWAT team of strategic consultants, the office will be staffed by former business executives and is designed to infuse fresh thinking into Washington, float above the daily political grind and create a lasting legacy for a president still searching for signature achievements. ‘

GE Susanne, thanks for the link to a non-paywall-limited site.

Honestly can’t wrap my brain around what’s happening. DJT is a doddering, senile, vindictive, shallow, functionally illiterate with a mindset of an adolescent who is incapable of even comprehending what it means to be president — he only knows brand management/(self)promotion and lining his pockets by any means possible.

Ivanka and Jared both now have offices in the West Wing…

And MSM act like this is perfectly normal, to have the German version of the costa nostra as leaders of this country, extorting foreign governments to line the costa nostra’s pockets, impoverishing and suppressing anyone who isn’t in a position to do them favors, expanding law enforcement across the country (while turning a blind eye to supervising LEOs who gleefully racially profile and use excessive force), propping up the dying fossil fuels industry because it means profits to those who desecrate our landscape and pollute our water and air. And heaven help us all on the foreign policy front.

Just cannot believe this country is being run by self-serving, ignorant and greedy people like Bannon, Ivanka and Jared Kushner. JHC.

This is the beginning of privatizing and profiteering, and this is something the small government conservatives will join. These people do not understand the purpose and the role of a federal government. They think it is only about defense, but if the things that make life better are dissolved, we will not have anything worth defending. Marginalized people, the poor and the disabled do not do well when things that affect them are left to the states, especially the Red ones (case in point is a mofo governor here in Florida who did not extend Medicaid).

It’s a time to fight harder.” … De Blasio pointed to Friday’s collapse of a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare as a sign that [45’s] proposals — like a budget that would strip hundreds of millions of dollars from New York City — can be defeated.

  41. March 27, 2017 at 8:36 am

The conditions at these plants are criminal…often untrained temp workers are pulled to work on the assembly lines. Often the already dangerous equipment is in need of repair.

Alabama has been trying on the nickname “New Detroit.” Its burgeoning auto parts industry employs 26,000 workers, who last year earned $1.3 billion in wages. Georgia and Mississippi have similar, though smaller, auto parts sectors. This factory growth, after the long, painful demise of the region’s textile industry, would seem to be just the kind of manufacturing renaissance President Donald Trump and his supporters are looking for.

Except that it also epitomizes the global economy’s race to the bottom. Parts suppliers in the American South compete for low-margin orders against suppliers in Mexico and Asia. They promise delivery schedules they can’t possibly meet and face ruinous penalties if they fall short. Employees work ungodly hours, six or seven days a week, for months on end. Pay is low, turnover is high, training is scant, and safety is an afterthought, usually after someone is badly hurt. Many of the same woes that typify work conditions at contract manufacturers across Asia now bedevil parts plants in the South.

In 2014, OSHA’s Atlanta office, after detecting a high number of safety violations at the region’s parts suppliers, launched a crackdown. The agency cited one year, 2010, when workers in Alabama parts plants had a 50 percent higher rate of illness and injury than the U.S. auto parts industry as a whole…In 2015 the chances of losing a finger or limb in an Alabama parts factory was double the amputation risk nationally for the industry, 65 percent higher than in Michigan and 33 percent above the rate in Ohio.

This is what happens when you do not have unions. The plutocrats on one side and greedy union bosses on the other (think GM before the crash) have brought us to the point. Teachers’ unions (I was a member throughout my teaching career) are assailed and demonized on all sides, but it was the only thing that gave us any power of our lives.

      • March 27, 2017 at 9:15 am

In reading the article, it all, of course, came down to the bottom line….rejecting safety upgrades for less reliable modifications that saved maybe a few thousand dollars; using untrained temp employees on assembly lines around dangerous machines; overworking employees to meet unreasonable quotas to avoid financial penalties for unrealistic contractual agreements made.

Governors…and now 45…want accolades for bringing businesses to their states. But this article infers that few benefit at the expense of workers who want nothing more than to make a decent living and earn a decent wage.

I remind myself daily to focus on thoughts, wishes, and prayers for the full truth to be revealed before too much harm is done and justice to be meted out. During the weekend of the Women’s March, I mentioned that the foot soldiers would be joined by the smart, talented, hardworking Obama staff in pushing back against the crooks and criminals that make up this current administration. They are all over the country involved in developing ways and means to resist and to move forward toward PBO’s vision of what this country can be. Over the past 7 years, they relied on the excuse that PBO would veto any bill that repealed the ACA. Now that they control both houses and the oval office, they have no excuse. Not only that, it has become apparent that they were never serious about repealing — and especially replacing — the ACA; that it was just all about being obstructionists. I wonder if GOP constituents are taking note of this and understanding the lack of substance in the people they elected to represent them.

Boris Epshteyn Named in July FISA Application; Did Nunes Obstruct Justice?
    MARCH 27, 2017 ~ PATRIBOTICS
On November 7th, I reported at Heat Street that the FBI had obtained a FISA warrant covering the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia.

I reported that the FISA warrant had been granted after an earlier, failed application to the court in the summer named Trump and “at least three other men, who have either formed part of his campaign or acted as his media surrogates“.

Those names, sources said, were Donald Trump, with Paul Manafort and Carter Page (two men that had formed part of Trump’s campaign) and Boris Epshteyn, who at the time I reported, the eve of the election itself, had only acted as Mr. Trump’s media surrogate.

Since that time, Mr. Epshteyn has become a part of government as a Transition Team official and now at the White House and I feel able to be explicit as to the names sources gave me as forming part of the summer application to the court.

It is important to note that the application to FISC made by the FBI in July was denied. The FBI must, by definition, have represented to the FISA court that they believed Trump, Page, Manafort and Epshteyn were either actual Russian agents, or Russian “agents of influence”, which can be unwitting, as Brad C Moss, a national security lawyer, pointed out in my report for Heat Street.

All of this was organized by Women’s March of London. PBO told us over and over that one person could start a chain reaction that could bring about change and this is another huge example of it.

    http://washingtonmonthly.com/2017/03/27/trumps-reality-distortion-field-is-shattering/

Greg Sargent at the Washington Post has long been making the case that Trump’s main communications strategy is to assault the notion of shared objective reality itself. In Trumpworld, the only arbiter of crowd sizes or climate science or wiretapping is Donald Trump himself, and everything else is “fake news” regardless of what facts might invalidate his narrative.

And for a while, it was working. During the presidential campaign, Trump lied with reckless abandon but never seemed to suffer for it. That’s partly because his opponent also suffered from perceived credibility issues, but it’s mostly because the news media treats presidential elections like a game where any claim is in bounds as long as a candidate can get people to believe it. And because Trump is the sort of figure it’s hard to take one’s eyes off of, his tweets and pronouncement manage to derail news cycles and capture attention. It was thought that perhaps we were entering a new political era in which reality simply no longer mattered.

But campaigns are one thing. Governing is another. And Trump’s reality distortion field is failing him now that he has to grapple with something more than campaign coverage.

Sargent himself noted this fact almost a week ago, referencing reports that Trump’s tweets were no longer having the narrative-driving force they once did. But the failure of the Republican health plan has cemented the degree to which Trump is losing his ability to gaslight and confuse enough people to get his way.

The French are out protesting as well against Le Pen, I believe. I hope they show out at the ballot box and keep this Putin ass-kisser and racists out of their government. I firmly believe that the Women’s March and the other nation-wide and world ones that followed have encourage the people of Russia and France to resist. And lest we forget, all of them were inspired by MLK and the Civil Rights protests of the 1960’s.

Artificial Intelligence is and will have the biggest impact on just about every sector of our lives. I think if Dems. want to get out ahead they should be pushing for adult retraining and state a plan or vision to address to future of work and technology.
