What a beautiful PRESIDENTIAL from the current and former President of the United States. No statement is not a contradiction.

The repubs. and 45 are willing to sacrifice millions, many of whom are the people who voted for them, in a vain attempt to hurt PBO. They just cannot let it go that a Black man was so successful and is more revered everyday. He gave the lie to all that they have said and done for years and they want to destroy him and his legacy. PBO came to serve and because he always focused on our welfare, God gave him the victory. One of the worst things about what they are trying to do to the rest of us is that we pay for their healthcare and you can bet they will make sure that they and their families will not suffer the onerous things that the rest of us will suffer if they are successful. It is sick that were determined to deny healthcare to millions on the anniversary of the day that the ACA was passed. Millions of lives saved, jobs created, and family incomes not decimated by health costs does not matter to them. Some days the breadth of their evil takes my breath away.

Asking permission automatically puts one at a disadvantage. You are in a subordinate position where the one who deigns to give after you beg and ask prettily can also take whatever it is away. I really admire many of the young women today who live their lives out loud. Ava stopped knocking on doors and opened her own and look where she is now.

It is not that the Republicans are inept and could not come up with a good bill…it is that they just don’t believe that everyone deserves health care…esp if the government is involved…for the poor and working poor, they believe it is their own fault that they are poor…and so well…that is why they can come up with what seems like heartless policies…but they have to lie about it…because they have to hide how they really feel (although this bill has been the great reveal)…and invoke the Southern Strategy to keep their GOP voters voting for them

I posted about this on the “Tres Chic” thread on yesterday…

Frustrated by the expense, the president’s policies, and the overall inconvenience of having members of the first family in the area, many Aspen locals have taken to the streets to protest.

Many of the protesters, shown in the tweets below, are specifically speaking out against the President’s proposed Environmental Protection Agency cuts.

Others in the area might not be holding up signs in protest, but they’ve still made their irritation known. One New York mother, who is vacationing in Aspen as well, told Vanity Fair that “everyone is annoyed” by the Trump family’s presence.

Exactly. I worry about all the people- especially the folks, and the young ones being sent to Mexico- this above all makes me feel very powerless and furious. How will we ever undo this terrorism being done to our people.

On the other hand my DIL’s mom became a citizen last week- from Jamaica originally. And she was very happy and relieved. I realize this “too shall pass” because that is how all things work, but not without folks fighting it every step of the way- and the fact that many of us are fighting, gives me the only hope I have for us right now.

I urge you, in the face of what may be the scariest threat yet to our civility as a nation and our freedom as individuals, to consider a new tactic in covering the current presidency.

Specifically, stop reporting everything they say or do.

Stop repeating — gratuitously — the lies (or the fantasies). Stop reupping the ante. Stop restoking the flames of idiocy.

Stop seeking an Oval Office reaction to every misstep.

Case in point: the president’s insistence that his predecessor wiretapped his phones.

The claim was absurd from first tweet, but of course we needed evidence, so those initial reports were probably necessary. But when the Senate Intelligence Committee and the (Republican) Speaker of the House said Thursday that no such evidence existed, the story was over. Done. Finished. Or should have been.

Shy as he was, Mr. Brent Brown (a Republican who had loudly rejected the ACA and President Obama) decided to speak up for the President and Obamacare. In 2015 he wrote to PBO thanking him for saving his life: “Before I briefly explain my story allow me to first say this:
I am so very sorry. I was so very wrong. I was so very wrong. You saved my life. My President, you saved my life, and I am eternally grateful.
I have a ‘pre-existing condition’ and so could never purchase health insurance. Only after the ACA came into being could I be covered. Put simply to not take up too much of your time if you are in fact taking the time to read this: I would not be alive without access to care I received due to your law. Thank you for serving me even when I didn’t vote for you. Thank you for being my President. The Affordable Care Act saved my life. I can now say, after several surgeries, that I’m in recovery from what was a serious autoimmune disease.”

    • March 23, 2017 at 10:47 pm

Here’s Brent speaking from the podium, thanking the people of Milwauke for bringing the ACA to their communities:

From the tweet Gail posted up page…. start here. It’s beyond EPIC.

    • March 24, 2017 at 8:45 am

It’s beyond epic is right. It’s fabulous. He’s on fire. I’ve despised Faux ‘News’ forever. They’re absolutely complicit in sowing division, fear, and outright hatred in the US (*AND* in Canada – it unfortunately airs here as well, and we have our fair share of dumbed-down and hate-filled people as well). Yes, it would help if people had more damned sense to begin with and didn’t watch it, never mind believe any of it. But Faux has broadcast utter bullshit, complete lies, forever, and maybe that’s all some people have *ever* watched. Question is, how could you get rid of it?

      • March 24, 2017 at 11:59 am

In Canada, it’s illegal for any legit NEWS outlet to LIE. They can lose their license (broadcast/publishing), fined, and their CEO can end up in prison. The truth is that important.

        • March 24, 2017 at 12:33 pm

I know, and the continued existence of Faux ‘News’ is just one of many things in the US that *thinking* Canadians (there are many that aren’t!) just can’t understand. There are many Canadians who want it removed from Canadian airwaves and cable tv packages, but that is also unlikely to ever happen, unless it ceases to exist altogether.

The lies never stop – last I heard the man who wants to be a King – ORDERED Ryan to get health care passed.

      • March 24, 2017 at 10:47 am

But Ryan is not without blame. He was pretty cocky about having a “replacement” and was giddy about all that this plan would take away from those in need. I hope it is considered a part of Ryan’s failure as Speaker. [Boehner is probably having a drink or two and laughing his butt off.]

        • 103 99ts
          March 24, 2017 at 11:00 am

Agree 100% – the current bill is all Ryan – and pathetic, with or without amendments. He has had 8 years to prepare this bill, as have all the other republicans screaming for repeal/replace or whatever. They have lost any ability to legislate. This is what happens when folks who say we don’t need government have the job of governing. ALL good things that governments do come from the party on the left (in all democratic countries – not just the USA)

Boehner probably called up PBO to have talk about Ryan fail.

  48. March 24, 2017 at 2:13 am

As a result of those amendments, this estimate shows smaller savings over the next 10 years than the estimate that CBO issued on March 13 for the reconciliation recommendations of the House Committee on Ways and Means and the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
The estimated effects on health insurance coverage and on premiums for health insurance are similar to those estimated for the committees’ recommendations.

Canada’s largest school system announced it will no longer allow student or staff trips to the US, citing uncertainty over the travel ban.

Toronto District School Board expressed concern over how the US immigration policy could affect students on school trips.
“We strongly believe that our students should not be placed into these situations of potentially being turned away at the border,” the board’s director of education, John Malloy, said in a statement.

LOL. Didn’t they vote for this?! This reminds me of a family experience we had many years ago. My MIL (who was in her late 80’s at that time) needed to move into an assisted living facility. My husband’s oldest brother REFUSED to even discuss it with his other 3 siblings. There were numerous conference calls, etc. and one face to face family meeting to try to get through to him. Finally, my husband, the “baby” and the one who was taking the lead on all this, said to him: Okay, you won’t go along with this. All the rest of us have two-story homes and other issues that none of us can take her into our homes so you take her. (He has a ranch and was retired.) So, he took her to FL. It wasn’t longer than 6 weeks until he began making noises about finding a place for her back in TN. The rest of the siblings took their time on finding a place for her. When my SIL found a place, she told him when HE could move her in. And, my SIL stuck to it even though she was right there in town. She didn’t even go until the next day. We all agreed that the ONLY thing that would teach my BIL a lesson was to experience caring for her himself.

I see this whole awful mess the same way. Nothing is going to get through to Congress or to the GOP “faithful” except experiencing personally the result of their actions. Of course, that means ALL of us are having to suffer too. Same was true for my mother-in-law. She suffered and was SO unhappy for those few months, but it came to no other choice but what the family did.
