Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Tuesday morning. Congrats df, on being first this morning.

Nerdy, thanks so much for helping Ms. Chips and for the sacrifices you’re making for us TOD’ers. 💫🙏👌👊❤

To all, I hope you are abundantly adorable, adequately charming, and sufficiently delightful today. Happy Valentine’s Day! 💐🍫🍹

It will be more spin, spin, spin. They know they have the numbers in their favor in Congress so little to nothing will be done to investigate this. They are hoping that it all blows over (or Trump comes up with another distraction) within a couple of days so they can move toward implementing their right wing agenda.

Had this been PBO actual fire alarms would be going off simultaneously in DC right now.

Golly gee – imagine if they had taken some time to ‘investigate’ him BEFORE the appointment?. Still, maybe more dirty laundry came into the light precisely because they couldn’t be bothered. The entire lot of them should start planning for a nice, long, extended vacay, in Guantanamo. No need to pack their bags, all upkeep will upkeep will be paid for by the US taxpayer. We might even save money keeping them there. Sure glad they never closed it, jokes on them.

I called both my GOP senators yesterday and asked for an independent commission to investigate ties between Trump Campaign/Administration and Russia. In their local offices I spoke with actual people, and they indicated they had been getting calls on this. I also paused for a moment and said to the staffers, “I know you are a Republican, but doesn’t this bother you? Don’t you think getting to the bottom of these multiple connections to a hostile foreign government is more important than backing up your Party? Shouldn’t Senator X be acting in our national interest? This is not normal.” In both cases there was a long pause, a heavy sigh, and a slow, flat response, yes Ma’am, I’ll make sure that the Senator hears your concerns.

If even staffers and true loyalists are being beaten down by the Russia connections, I think this should be vocally front and center every day for every Dem elected official, and Dem. Party spokesperson, and every regular citizen on their Facebook pages and in conversations with Republican friends and Relatives from now until upcoming special congressional elections, and through the midterms. We must tie the silence and misjudgment of the entire GOP Congress to this corrupt administration.

The Senate’s second-ranking Republican and other GOP senators are calling for an investigation into connections between President Donald Trump and Russia, and want former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to testify.

Sen. John Cornyn told reporters Tuesday that the Senate standing committees with oversight of intelligence need to investigate Flynn. Sen. Roy Blunt, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, also told KTRS radio he wanted to speak with Flynn.

Flynn seems crazy and obnoxious and self-possessed enough to – if it ever happens – appear at a Senate hearing and forget he can “take the fifth.” At least, I think he can. He’ll want the whole world to hear what he has to say, while calling himself a “scapegoat” (as he has already), because he’s lost all touch with reality and is pretty much sure he’s above anything as common as “our laws.”

    Quick Takes: The Mad King
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    February 13, 2017 5:28 PM

    * Andrew Sullivan is not someone who is known for understatement. But in this case, I think he’s correct.

Then there is the obvious question of the president’s mental and psychological health. I know we’re not supposed to bring this up — but it is staring us brutally in the face. I keep asking myself this simple question: If you came across someone in your everyday life who repeatedly said fantastically and demonstrably untrue things, what would you think of him?…Here’s what I’d think: This man is off his rocker. He’s deranged; he’s bizarrely living in an alternative universe; he’s delusional…

I think this is a fundamental reason why so many of us have been so unsettled, anxious, and near panic these past few months. It is not so much this president’s agenda. That always changes from administration to administration. It is that when the linchpin of an entire country is literally delusional, clinically deceptive, and responds to any attempt to correct the record with rage and vengeance, everyone is always on edge.

    * I’m going to suggest that you watch this entire clip from Morning Joe today for two reasons: (1) If you didn’t watch the atrocious interviews with Stephen Miller on the Sunday morning shows yesterday, it will give you a good run-down of just how awful he is, and (2) imagine Donald Trump (who LOVED Miller’s performance) watching the commentary after the clips. It has been pretty well established that he’s addicted to watching this show.

Flynn is Gone, But the President is Still There
    by Martin Longman
    February 14, 2017 12:33 PM

If you were a fly on the wall in the White House over the weekend (or on March 22, 1973), you might have heard an exchange that went something like this.

PRESIDENT: You think, you think we want to, want to go this route now? And the — let it hang out, so to speak?
McGAHN: Well, it’s, it isn’t really that —
MILLER: It’s a limited hang out.
McGAHN: It’s a limited hang out.
BANNON: It’s a modified limited hang out.
PRESIDENT: Well, it’s only the questions of the thing hanging out publicly or privately.

All I’ve done here is change the names from Dean, Haldeman, and Erlichmann. A limited (modified) hangout is something the intelligence community does when things have gotten out of hand and they can no longer just deny, deny, deny.

In spy jargon, it’s a tactic used when “they can no longer rely on a phony cover story to misinform the public, they resort to admitting—sometimes even volunteering—some of the truth while still managing to withhold the key and damaging facts in the case. The public, however, is usually so intrigued by the new information that it never thinks to pursue the matter further.”

Anywhere in the world – excepting Russia and NK – he will be met with protests. He will be cancelling trips here there and anywhere. It is 30 years since I went to a political protest but I would have to be there if he ever came near my country. Most leaders will visit the US if they want to see trump. No way they want him in their country.

      • February 14, 2017 at 6:18 pm

I agree. Everywhere he goes he will be met with throngs of people who are disgusted, outraged, repulsed by the very sight of him. This includes the U.S.

    The Mysterious James Comey
The FBI must have known that Michael Flynn illegally discussed sanctions with the Russian ambassador.

    by Mike Lofgren
    February 13, 2017

On February 10, the Washington Post ran an above-the-fold story stating that — according to multiple government sources — Michael Flynn, President Trump’s national security adviser, took a phone call from Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and discussed U.S sanctions against that country. Since the call took place on December 29, three weeks before the inauguration, the call itself would have been irregular even if the subject matter discussed had been innocuous.

The fact that it occurred on the day the Obama administration applied additional sanctions on Russia made the call a curious coincidence. The Post cited numerous senior government officials claiming that Flynn discussed those sanctions with Russia’s ambassador, making the call highly improper at a minimum. CBS News led its story with the suggestion that Flynn may have violated the law. Increasing the appearance of wrongdoing was Flynn’s previous assertion that he had not discussed policy matters, and that he had only conveyed greetings and discussed arrangements for a post-inaugural phone call between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

It is a good bet that the media will make heavy weather of the issue of whether a person can be charged with the Logan Act, a law prohibiting unauthorized private individuals from conducting diplomacy with foreign powers — a law which has never been used to prosecute anybody. They will ask whether the national security adviser is fit to serve, given his seeming lack of truthfulness regarding the phone call, his poor policy judgment, and his chumminess with Putin. There is also the embarrassing matter of Vice President Mike Pence already having publicly asserted that Flynn did not discuss the sanctions issue.

      February 14, 2017 at 5:21 pm

I briefly listened to Mrs Greenspan – silly me, but one thing she said is stuck in my brain – “When justice wanted to go to the white house about Flynn, Comey was the only person involved with the situation who did not want to tell anyone”. She just seemed to cruise over it & nothing more was mentioned about Comey.

No doubt in my mind he cost the dems both the presidency and the senate.

This is my take from the WH Briefing:

45’s trust of Flynn was already eroding…

If Flynn’s communication with Russia was illegal, Flynn would have been asked to resign.

If Flynn’s communication with Russia was legal, still trust issues, Flynn would have been asked to resign.

Therefore, whether Flynn’s actions were legal or illegal had no bearing on him being fired. Spicer repeating this was an attempt to confuse the issue.

So…why wait the 17 days???? Probably believed that their normal distractions would have pulled attention away and would not have to address the issue. If not for the continued digging by [print] media, Flynn would still be NSA director. Instead, more questions are *FINALLY* being address regarding 45 (Campaign and Administration) relationship with Russia and the security implications.

Again, there’s no way I can be convinced that 45, 45’s-VP, or anyone else on 45’s senior staff had no idea what Flynn discussed with Russia. If anything, he bragged about it and got a bunch of atta-boys and slaps on the back. Now that the media sharks smell blood, I hope they continue to circle the prey and bring them all down.

    Stephen Miller’s History of Bigotry
    by Martin Longman
    February 13, 2017 3:07 PM

On the one hand, who cares what Joe Scarborough has to say? On the other hand, he was so alarmed and appalled by Trump aide Stephen Miller’s performance on the Sunday morning talk shows that he’s talking about impeachment.

Scarborough said the White House is “embarrassing themselves by putting this guy up,” describing Miller’s “performance” as “horrendous” and “an embarrassment.” “That is the talk of a dictator, not somebody who is president of the United States,” Scarborough said. If Trump’s administration were to actually act based on Miller’s suggestions, “we could have impeachment proceedings within the next six months,” Scarborough warned.

Meanwhile, Univision has tracked down some of Miller’s childhood friends, and the stories are a little unsettling. For example:

Stephen Miller and Jason Islas grew up in sunny southern California in the late 1990s, united by their passion for Star Trek. But Miller stopped talking to his friend as they prepared to jump from Lincoln Middle School to Santa Monica High School.

Miller only returned Islas’ phone calls at the end of the summer, to coldly explain the reason for his estrangement. “I can’t be your friend any more because you are Latino,” Islas remembers him saying.

That’s cold. And it only got worse.
