      Hello 57

I remember so well your struggles with health care/insurance – your relief when the ACA was passed & then your struggles to get through the exchange. That everyone cared & worked so hard, I find it impossible to believe that the current administrations comes from the country that elected Barack Obama.

I will always think of you & hope you stay away from despair while coping with this insanity. Hopefully it will not last long.

The 12 Early Warning Signs of Fascism
by Martin Longman January 31, 2017 12:23 PM

If you go to the U.S. Holocaust Museum, you can see a sign hanging there that tells you what to look for if you’re worried that your country may be slipping into fascism. Let’s take a look at their twelve early warning signs of fascism.

    1. Powerful and continuing nationalism
    2. Disdain for human rights
    3. Identification of enemies as a unifying cause
    4. Rampant sexism
    5. Controlled mass media
    6. Obsession with national security
    7. Religion and government intertwined
    8. Corporate power protected
    9. Labor power suppressed
    10. Disdain for intellectual and the arts
    11. Obsession with crime and punishment
    12. Rampant cronyism and corruption

You can follow the links above, but it shouldn’t be necessary if you’ve been paying any attention. Trump’s message is based on putting America “first,” making America “great again,” and is clearly a powerful form of nationalism that we’re also seeing arise in other countries in Europe and Asia.

I hope Axelrod’s tweet is prophetic. Dems should vote no on whoever Trump nominates. There is no reason to treat Republican nominations with any respect given how Republicans treated Garland. Keep in mind that Republicans promised to stall any of Secretary Clinton’s SCOTUS nominees had she been elected.

In listening to the 4 of them speak just now, I know that they hear us, so, I would like to ask them and be open minded enough & without pre-judging them to listen to their explanations.

        • January 31, 2017 at 6:01 pm

this is what DEMS do…they do not seem to recognize the danger…why i am not sure…perhaps they do not see the danger…during the Presidency of Pres Obama there were a few times that they stood firm….the DEBT Ceiling…and the GOV Shutdown come to mind….Harry Reid was able to keep them together….We…America….not just Dems are in serious danger…i am not sure if they understand…although i do not see how they could not….

I agree. They should be obstructing and resisting with all of their might. No need to vote for any of Trump’s nominees. Treat Trump nominees like Republicans treated Judge Garland.

If there are lawyers or housing advocates here please read this. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) introduced a bill on 1/11/2017 that concerns in part the SEC. 3. PROHIBITION ON USE OF FEDERAL FUNDS. This section reads:

“Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no Federal funds may be used to design, build, maintain, utilize, or provide access to a Federal database of geospatial information on community racial disparities or disparities in access to affordable housing.”

Trump Admin Doesn’t Really Care About Working Americans
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    January 31, 2017 3:52 PM

By my count, the Trump administration has issued 20 executive orders and memoranda since inauguration day. They have dealt with everything from taking health care away from millions of Americans, to building walls, to banning Muslim immigrants and refugees from seven countries. Those were all things he promised to do during his campaign.

But he also promised to address the concerns of working-class Americans. That was the heart of his so-called “populist” appeal. Since this administration is moving pretty fast on so many of their promises, it might be time to ask the “what have you done for me lately” question.

There are those who would point to the president’s memorandum last week withdrawing the U.S. from the Transpacific Partnership trade agreement as his nod in the direction of American workers. Even if you are prepared to buy the idea that doing so helped them, Trump’s statement merely formalized what was already a reality. It was a totally empty gesture.

On the other hand, many of the president’s executive orders will hurt American workers. For example:

Destabilizing the health insurance market by taking the first steps to repeal Obamacare
Created an opening to remove corporate regulations that protect workers and their families
Rather than creating jobs, instituting a federal hiring freeze
Starting the process to spend tens of billions of taxpayer dollars on a wall that accomplishes nothing

What an incredible shits show; too bad that the character of a country is illustrated to the rest of the world in who is elected (by whatever means) by the voters who show up. If you did not travel overseas during the Obama era, you can forget it until we find away to bring down the First Puppet and his handlers.

As most of you know I was in Germany and Austria in December and the first part of January for the holidays and my daughter’s wedding. I mentioned before that the sixteen American family members traveling there for my daughter were all Trump opponents. We were assumed by hotel workers and taxi drivers to be Donald supporters. We let them know that we were not supporters and worried too. My daughter who works in Germany, married a German and has lived there for the last five plus years said she has noticed a negative difference in how she is treated from before the election. It reminds me of how we were viewed when I traveled abroad when GW was President.

He thinks that he is still in a reality/unreality show. Will he stand both of them in front of the cameras, then point to one to say “you’re hired”? I’ll wait for the after-show printed review tomorrow; no ratings from me.

Could any of you help me. There was a link couple weeks ago about the queen in chess, capturing the queen (Trump); that Comey has all along been involved in counter intelligence, that PO knows all this. I remember commenting that IF its true, Hillary loves the country enough to step back, cooperate and do what she has to to catch the ‘queen.’ I’ve Googled all kind of combinations and find nothing. I usually write down links like that but didn’t this time. Huge thanks if anyone can help.

This nomination is such a slap in the face after what they did to PBO and Merrick Garland. I am praying that the Dems fight this tooth and nail, regardless of the nominee. If an 8 justice court was good enough for the last 11 months, it is good enough for the next 4 years. And to see DT turn this into a spectacle as well is just disgusting. Is there any low that is low enough for him? Guess not.
