It was very encouraging to see such a great turnout at all of the marches today.
Hope every one of them who attended can turn this moment into the beginning of activism (those who aren’t already) for the next 4 years … it’s gonna take a village.
Hang in there folks … time will fly.

NW, ((((((LOVE and HUGS)))))). Thanks for the new thread. 🙂 Love Pete.

Now for my report from red state, red county, red town Knoxville, TN. Don’t have a final number yet. Do know that 2, 222 registered on Facebook page. Know that many, many more were there. Did speak with one man afterwards who seemed to “know” (guess) at these things and he said he was thinking upwards of 4000-5000. There were all ages, families, babies, elderly, diversity. After going through the last thread and also Facebook, it seems our march was like every other one—MANY more showed up than expected. My friend talked with a woman from a nearby county. Retired and she said, “I’ve been silent and quiet too long. No more. Monday morning I will be calling and doing other things and who knows, I might just run for something?” Another woman was on her way to march in DC, realized when she go into southwest VA she couldn’t make it in time. She checked for closest march, turned around and drove back to Knoxville and joined ours.

I am just blown away and inspired. I keep hearing PO saying, “We’re going to be okay.” He knows this country. He has faith in us. We let him down, but no more. Put on our marching boots and GO!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that today has made PBO proud and confirmed his faith in the country. I will hold back on could have/should have comments because they are not helpful and because it is better late than never. We see that we do not have to believe the same about everything (there are pro-life people marching as well), but we can work together on the issues that are intersectional (the word of the new women’s movement) and move our society farther along to being more just, equal, and fair.

As a domestic violence surmounter I decided to study the issue of bullying and the one thing that was vital to what I discovered is that bullies target those they perceive to be isolated. I love the Indivisible movement for that reason. We do need to school as a people right now protecting all our communities from being isolated from the rest. The other thing to love about the Indivisible effort is the practical action oriented guidelines from the outset.

The media has dubbed the Trump protests as the “New Tea Party”. But this is mainstream America. This is not an extremist faction of the Democratic Party. And therein lies the huge difference between this movement and the Tea Party.

Next we need to demand to see Trump’s taxes, in mass. Drive him over the edge into insanity, he is already on the way. Wearing black to my bowling league today, as is my sister. We have become more outspoken and find those that don’t agree run and hide, don’t engage in intelligent conversation. Stay strong America for America and for President Obama and all he has done.

So pitiful that they care so much. He ran against Hillary, not PBO, and won. Why isn’t this enough for him? He knows deep inside that he is nowhere near the man and leader that PBO is, and I’ll bet that this was so clear to him when the two et behind closed doors. He is outclassed on all measures and the more he tries to emulate PBO, the smaller he looks. He, like others, fell for the “If a Black man can do it, I can as well and better” and have bitten the dust every time. Being better than PBO, besting in in some kind of way is more important to the Illegitimate One than governing and this will be his downfall.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, glass of wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO HOO what a ride!!”

      Hi Sheila
I’ve been going there all day, ‘like’ing each city’s report as it shows up. It’s absolutely wonderful how people all over the world are out in the streets, with signs, with their kids, with goodwill in their hearts, in all kinds of nasty weather. Inspiring, and also a wonderful tribute to PBO’s belief in us– WE the people.

Have never participated in anything like including all the protests marches I attended in the ’60s. Nothing close.

If we had had the kind of diversity I just spent the past few hours witnessing before 1968 – of every dimension you can imagine – demanding an end to that totally criminal war, Johnson would have been forced to end it and Nixon would never have been elected.

I sent a tweet to Sec Tom Perez urging him to encourage the rebirth of the Democratic Party as the “Empathy Party,” as I was leaving for the march.

After being in the presence of infants, children, ………………., these past few hours I realized that perhaps the organizers of the Women’s March are precisely the leaders to birth the “American Empathy Party.”

I see a “Party” focused on Empathy as the fundamental transformation in how we as citizens organize and lead the absolutely necessary evolution of American Government to BECOME aligned with the core values of our Constitution, with how our Government should nurture the quality of life of every citizen.

Women give birth, women nurture and as evidence of those profound, innate female skills women, over the past very few weeks, organized a global outpouring of the very best of humanity on a scale never seen in human history.

Hopefully, in years to come 21 January 2017 will be celebrated as the birth of the American Empathy Party.

THIS Bob! There is nothing anyone can do to teach this 70 year old idiot how to do the job. And it is NOT helped by the fact that there is not a single person in his inner circle who has ever governed. Thus, the fiasco of a press conference although even common sense should tell you that you cannot do these things from the WH press podium. Spicer lost any ounce of credibility today, on day one. It is even worse than I contemplated, although you knew that those dismal crowds yesterday were going to drive him insane. I suspect that it was compounded by the crowds today and sent him totally around the bend.

More than 2,000 people took to snow-covered streets during the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday in solidarity with Women’s March demonstrations around the United States, organized to show opposition to U.S. President Donald Trump’s agenda.

A sea of bright pink knitted hats, a symbol of the movement, stood out on the streets of Park City, Utah, as talk show host Chelsea Handler led the Women’s March there. Protesters chanted “Not My President,” “Love Trumps Hate” and “Fight Like a Girl.”

The demonstration took place during the 10-day Sundance festival for independent film, which takes over the small mountain resort town every year.

A day after the president’s inauguration, the Women’s March drew hundreds of thousands of people to the streets of Washington, across the United States and the world to voice opposition to Trump’s often angry, populist rhetoric and comments seen as demeaning to women and minorities.

Martina Costello, from Park City, said she was marching because she wanted her children to see “change is possible.”

“This gives me chills, it almost brings tears to my eyes,” she said.

Handler, who hosts her own Netflix talk show, led the rally after the march, saying the “silver lining” to Trump’s election is the movement that has risen against him.

“The groundswell that we needed before that election is happening now. There’s something happening and I feel it,” she said.

    Our Obama Victories

Thanks to Obama, the Trump Administration has left The Bubble before even taking office.

In our lifetimes, we used to accept that other people’s lifetimes would be shortened because they couldn’t afford health care. Cultural acceptance of death by impoverishment was a pre-existing condition. Barack Obama cured it.

Scott Pruitt said under oath that global warming is not a hoax. Assuming it tries, the Trump Administration may not be able to wriggle out of the Paris accords or a host of regulatory actions. Barack Obama did that.

The GOP now owns problems the free market does not solve. And it is in large part thanks to Obama that the GOP even sees these as problems. They are now out of The Bubble, grappling with the reality Obama created that government is, in fact, the best—in some cases most fucking awesome and beautiful—answer to problems that individuals and market forces can not address.

Republicans are now struggling to replicate what ObamaCare accomplished. They say they want to do what it did…better and more. For the first time more Americans approve of ObamaCare than disapprove.

We have a head start, and the Trump Administration is already out of its Bubble, because Barack Obama made it reality that this nation sees problems as problems we can fix through the glorious invention of government and politics. Trump shows no inclination or ability to undo that. We’ve already won the first and most important battle.

The question that really matters is what will they be able to do despite that victory.

Just going to put this here. I do not like how this makes me feel…

CBC has spoken to two Montrealers who were refused entry to the U.S. en route to Washington for Donald Trump’s U.S. presidential inauguration today and the women’s march Saturday.

Joseph Decunha, a McGill University physics student, said he had tried to cross the border at Lacolle, Que., at 10 p.m. ET Thursday.

“The first thing he asked us point blank is, ‘Are you anti- or pro-Trump?'” Decunha claims he was asked by a border guard who eventually denied him entry.

Sasha Dyck, another Montrealer travelling with a different group of people, was refused entry to the U.S. at the same crossing, after telling agents he was hoping to attend the women’s march.

    Questioned about political views

Decunha, a Canadian citizen, was travelling with his partner and a friend, who are American citizens.

He told CBC that he and his friends told the first border agent they met that they were planning to attend both the inauguration and the women’s march. They were then sent for secondary processing.

Decunha said he had a “casual and jovial” conversation with the second border guard, who asked him about his political views and why he might disapprove of Trump.

The guard also asked him if he had ever travelled to the Middle East or if he believed in violence.

Decunha described himself as a pacifist.

“I’ve never been denied entry at any border crossing before. I have no criminal record. I’ve never done anything illegal in Canada or in any other country,” Decunha said.
