Markets responded to Donald Trump’s rambling news conference on Wednesday by dumping Trump. The dollar and pharmaceutical and biotechnology stocks were sold, bonds were bought and stocks once regarded as out of favor with the president-elect outperformed.

My prayer is the man realizes how over-his-head this position is and resigns, quits , etc. Yes that would leave us with Pence, but I’d rather see his face at the post office, etc, much less sitting in the Oval Office, Situation Room than an incompetent, loose cannon DT.

Pence’s ideology and goals are horrific. But I agree, I don’t see him launching nuclear weapons because he was slighted. Geeeezus! This is so unthinkably horrid it makes me miss Willard Romney……

Good evening TOD! Nerdy, thank you for spotlighting the remarkable relationship between these two women.

For those just joining Twitter, even if you don’t tweet it is a wonderful news feed, which is primarily what I use it for. I joined in 2009, almost never tweet, but use it religiously for news and analyses.

Attended the Indivisible meeting this afternoon and it was interesting. For any of you that have looked at it, it is primarily focused on the federal reps in keeping with the tea party model. There were only 8 of us but a good group and I suspect it will grow quickly. A couple of people who were quite involved in Hillary’s campaign, and some other new people who have not been politically active previously.

Some of the people that are overall very active are very focused on TX politics as well, and it is going to be a challenge to keep this group focused on the federal level. I suspect I will be the one keeping that focus, but it works as we have quite a number of other groups focused on TX state level politics.

We managed in a short period of time to come up with our starting point. Our rep is so deeply embedded in the GOP here, she has refused for years to meet with constituents or do any type of town hall meetings. So that is our starting point, forcing her to have to publicly address her vote to repeal the ACA and the other issues that will be coming up. We will be traveling to her office once a week requesting a meeting, intend to increase the size of the group attending, and if she has not committed to a town hall by the third time two weeks from this coming week we hope to have a group of 35-50 and will try to get the press there. She apparently intends to retire after this term so not sure how successful we will be but it is a starting point. It is very different than anything I have done previously on the political side which, for the most part, centered around elections. But it will be interesting. And it is far past time to make these GOP members of Congress have to account to the people that they represent.

At a minimum, it is an outlet for my frustration:-)

This weekend, I am taking some few hours to write a longer note to each of PBO, FLOTUS, VP, Dr. Biden thanking them for their service to the nation and world.

Although I have occasionally done this before, I fell that I should take one more time to expressing what their leadership has meant to me and others I know and highlight how specific actions have made my own life better.

The letters are not a goodbye, but markers of how my life has been enriched by them all and their teams.

I want my thoughts to be part of the historical record marking this extra-ordinary time and quality of leadership.

You have a way of beautifully getting to the heart of the matter such that one just says: “that is exactly what I feel”.

thanks a lot for your contribution

The Fairey’s HOPE poster of Obama in the 2008 campaign is on display in one of the D.C. Museums. It is fabulous. He was sued by an AP photographer that took the original photo much earlier. He decided to go ahead and fight it on the grounds that an artist is not able to get close enough to a famous person to take their own photo. I wish he would have won as an artist I agree with his sentiment. Unfortunately he lost.

    January 14, 2017 at 11:24 pm

Ya know, DT’s obsession with President Obama is going to leave him looking incredibly foolish. Apparently, this search for performers is because he is going to try to replicate the Obama “We Are One” concert from 2008. It cannot be done, he can’t get the performers, and won’t have the turnout. The smart thing to do would be to skip it and just focus on Inauguration Day but who ever said he was smart. Instead, he will look like even more of a fool and invite even more comparisons to his detriment.

Remember he started his campaign by paying people to fill the audience seats too.
I remember reading a bragging quote on how DJT attracted investors to his NJ casino by hiring lots of construction vehicle drivers to push dirt around on his empty lot to give an effect of progress to potential investors. It worked. They were impressed and invested.
It reminds me of the Manila folders stunt at his press conference.
The visits and phone calls by campaign managers and his kids to Russia are evidence of scheming to me, especially when Don Jr said in 2008 that Russia played a predominate role in their portfolio.

and to make matters worse, he is being so vindictive as to fire the people currently in place who would serve as “place holders” until he can find a proper extended relative/friend or person he owes to fill the seat.

Today I got a real emotional boost. A coalition of progressive groups organized a rally and march at the state capitol building here in Salem, Oregon of solidarity with immigrants. It was very cold 30degrees, but sunny and dry, and there was a large crowd. The signs they were waving were uplifting, like “Somos One Oregon”. It was a very diverse crowd, with more Latinos of course, but so enthused and supportive. Our dem congressman Kurt Schrader was there and outspoken in his support of immigrants and opposing Trump on deportations. A number of other officials and legislators were the, as well as union and business people speaking, with translations in Spanish. I was so moved I was crying a good deal of the time, so touched by the unity and good will of the people. This was the face of the Resistance and it is beautiful in its diversity and oneness.

    • January 15, 2017 at 7:29 am

Wow, that is simply beautiful, Bill. I believe we are going to be seeing more and more of this activism as the days of Trump fascism roll on. I hope people of all good faith come together to publicly resist. We are going to need each other in a way not previously seen in the United States of America. UNITY.

Morning everyone…On this last Sunday with an adult in charge…. WHAT IS THIS??

    http://news.err.ee/v/news/df22cea3-1c2e-4139-92ea-08f029af9f07/newsweek-estonian-foreign-intelligence-eavesdropped-on-russian-official-meeting-trump-associate#.WHq6oV7x01Q.twitter

Estonia’s foreign intelligence service, the Information Board (EIB), last year listened in on a meeting in an unnamed eastern European country between an associate of Donald Trump and a pro-Putin member of the Russian State Duma, Newsweek reported on Wednesday.
While Newsweek was unable to say what the purpose of the meeting had been, a “Western intelligence official” was referred to as saying that the surveillance of the meeting was conducted “by or on behalf of” EIB.

Newsweek made the disclosure in an article about Russia’s interference in the U.S. presidential campaign and its creating political division in the U.S. The article, which was first brought to the attention of the Estonian media by daily Postimees, said that at one point that Trump’s inexplicable behavior had led top Russian officials to believe he would be forced to withdraw from the race because of his mental state and apparent unsuitability to be president.

In particular, Kremlin officials had feared they could not predict what the impact on Russia would be should Trump step aside. As a result, Moscow decided to stop forwarding documents obtained by its hackers to Wikileaks, which had been disseminating them publicly.
