Huff and Puff used that photo of the stare down (it is so delicious that Putin had to look up at PBO) between the two from earlier this year at the top of their politics page.

For all of those who were yelling for an immediate response, they need to review what he said to that CNN reporter Ed Henry: “I like to know what I am talking about before I say (or do) anything.” Folks should know by now what PBO’s mo is: he tells you that there will be an investigation and an appropriate response, then he goes on presidenting and living his life, then “Bam!” One day when he is out playing golf or snorkeling (like today) the bomb drops and folks are all “Whaaaat!!” Really, they should know better by now. He is not the one to mess with. Retribution, like revenge, is a dish best served cold. It is the quiet, contained ones who are the most dangerous.

You know what I want some REAL journalist to do in the next couple weeks? I want them to find out the connections to Russia and Putin that stupid ass (DT) has…and then I want the MSM to do its job and pick that scab until it bleeds! DT is putting our country in danger. Flat out. I want to know what he got in return for Russian help/favors to put him in the WH. You find that out, you hit the motherload and that’s EXACTLY what we need to know NOW! He should not be inaugurated. I remember that Carolyn thought that he would not get that far. I pray that she’s right….there is a problem when the PEOTUS defends a foreign adversary over the US. Music sounds better on the LP’s; less tinny and it is possible to hear the instruments better. LP’s started a comeback about 5 years ago and artists are putting their work on all platforms.

The first post-presidency award/honor that PBO should receive is the Profiles in Courage Award. The things that he has endured and overcome for our sake, never his own, would have broken most. His ability to set goals and to push them forward to completion, with little or no support is amazing. He did not lash out in anger, his words were always measured, but he always spoke truth directly, whether it was calling out Justice Roberts on Citizen United, eviscerating Ryan and McConnell at American University when he did his masterly comparison/contrast of the Ryan budget and his, or his one man take-down of the repubs. at their own retreat (they will never forgive or forget this). For most of his time in office, no one outside of his team had his back, but he did not whine, nor hold a pity-party. He even resisted demonizing his haters even though they did so to him every chance they got. The republicans and they corporate heads who own them have in their obstruction, made PBO even greater. He persevered and won most of the battles and he lived fully. He leaves the office just as trim, healthy and handsome as he was when he entered, with a loving marriage grown even stronger, and happy, kind, daughters that amaze him everyday. He leaves with his values intact, his head held high, and a soul at rest because he fought the good fight everyday.

Another AMEN to CEB’s masterful analysis. One would think that after eight years, people (press, etc) would have figured out that just because he and his team are quiet, it does not mean nothing is happening. We’ve learned that is when to WATCH OUT, because something big is going to happen.

Bless him…..what a gift he has been to us and the world!

Good evening Nerdy & TOD! Hope everyone continues to have a safe and peaceful holiday season.

Since the sanctions have been announced, nary a peep about Russian interference from Brother Bernie, or Sister Jill Stein… Bernie’s TL is all about Wall Street, single payer, etc…the same nonsense that he always talks about while doing absolutely nothing to actually create those situations.

I do not know how people feel about this : the suggestion I have heard from some that McCain and Graham take a lead role in investigating the Russian hacks.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that even Sen. Schumer was alluding to this.

I am sorry, but in spite of their current loud anger about this issue, I do not trust those two gop people to do the right thing when the critical time comes to do something that would endanger the republican party.

I have seen them repeatedly initial thump their chests about controversial issues and then they go silent or partisan when it comes to the heavy lifting.

the same goes to other republicans currently in office.

may be some of have forgotten but do people remember how republicans have obstructed the findings of the CIA torture report that explains what bush and his team did.

it has been many, many years but the obstruction of that torture-report still continues.

    in fact, I recall recently reading somewhere that there is some entity that is trying to secure and store this report because there is fear that it will be destroyed come January;

so, forgive me if I am not celebrating gop-involvement – would rather have an independent investigator.

      December 29, 2016 at 10:15 pm

I agree with you Linda. I don’t trust those two either. However, I feel that it’s better that the investigation be fronted by GOP members so that it doesn’t get dismissed as being a partisan witch hunt – which will surely happen if two Dems are seen “leading.” This may not mean that Dems aren’t front and center – they’re just not obviously so. Also, PBO will be out of office, so he will probably have more insight than the average Joe – as to whether the investigation is being conducted honestly and properly. I remain optimistic.

Lovely little piece about the tribute paid to PBO by scientists who have named new species after him. Remember the Obamadon! 🙂

And here’s a clip from one of the comments (in response to someone who commented that these are unattractive creatures and no great compliment to the president):

‘How many scientists do you actually know? Biologists spend endless hours seeking out, discovering, studying these creatures; and they come to really love them. The opportunity to actually name a life form doesn’t come along very often so it’s doubtful they would waste that chance to make fun of the POTUS who played a role in providing the funding and policy that supports their field of study. I knew a marine biology professor who studied the same intertidal helminth for his entire career; seriously, he was completely in love with a parasitic threadworm because of the information he could glean from its lifecycle. So, naming a new species after an esteemed POTUS is not at all inappropriate; it’s a great honor. ‘

    Good Morning TODVille.

A piece of not-so-surprised news for your coffee.

CNN – Russian President Vladimir Putin says that Moscow will not expel American diplomats in response to US sanctions against Russia, according to Russian state media.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had earlier recommended the Kremlin send home 35 US diplomats in response to a similar move by Washington on Thursday.

But Putin said he would wait until the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, according to state-run news agency Sputnik.

This is a good start 🙂 h/t BJ

Anita Foeman’s students had just gotten the results from their genetic tests, and they couldn’t wait to talk…

“Some people have never had a happy conversation about race,” Foeman said. But in her class at West Chester University, there’s laughter. Eagerness. And easy connections where there might have been chasms. “Our differences are fascinating,” she said.

At a time when tensions over race and politics are so raw, the stakes, Foeman said, seem particularly high. Her students have been talking all fall about riots, building walls, terrorist attacks, immigration, the election. “You can feel it buzzing around the halls like electricity,” Foeman said.

Asking people to take DNA tests — an idea that has spread to a campuswide effort at this public university — grew out of consulting work Foeman does in race mediation. Instead of a confrontational approach, trying to provoke people into recognizing their own biases, she wanted something that would pull people together, or at least give them a neutral place from which to start to talk. And with racial divides so stark, she wanted to add some nuance and depth.

She wondered: What if people started finding out things they didn’t know about themselves?

So she begins with a short survey asking people their race and what they know about their ancestry. They spit into a vial. Several weeks later, they get an email with an estimate of their ethnic makeup, a color-coded map of their past.

That leads to questions, stories and curiosity. It is a welcome reset from awkwardness, defensiveness, suspicion. Now that the DNA tests are cheaper, Foeman is able to ask all the students in her honors class — almost all of them freshmen just getting to know or redefine themselves — to take the test…

Foeman, who is African American — and genetically more than one-quarter European, as she now knows — would like to test as many people as she can. It’s a way to study everything from medicine to history. Most of all, she’d like to get everyone talking.

She has found people willing, even eager, to take part, with more than 1,500 on campus volunteering.

“I think people want this,” she said. “That surprises me — in a good way.”…

Good morning, TOD! Doing a quick wave to say hello and to let you know I’m alive and going absolutely CRA-CRA! They are still emptying the contents of my home. All of the big stuff, art, books, dining room china etc is inventoried and out for cleaning. Kitchen has been inventoried as salvageable. Now we are at the part where I have to be there as the inventory my clothing and soft goods…

“It’s all just an attempt to delegitimize Donald Trump.” That’s the argument you hear from Trump supporters each time new information comes to light about how hard Russian spy services worked to damage Hillary Clinton. You heard it again on Thursday.

The Trump supporters are 100 percent right: The information is delegitimizing. The president-elect of the United States reportedly owes his office in considerable part to illegal clandestine activities in his favor conducted by a hostile, foreign spy service. It’s hard to imagine a crisis of presidential legitimacy more extreme than that. But that’s no argument against airing this information. It’s precisely why the information must be aired.

Vladimir Putin took a fearful risk. If the Electoral College had taken a slightly different bounce on November 8, Putin would now be facing an enraged President-elect Hillary Clinton. Putin had every reason to expect that he probably would end up facing a President Clinton. Yet he took the gamble anyway, apparently doing something none of his Soviet predecessors had ever dared to do: mount a clandestine espionage and disinformation campaign on behalf of one candidate for U.S. president, and against another.

This from CONSERVATIVE David Frum. Spot on
