Congrats, DF! What a sweet bond our President has with his daughters! I would like to rebut every one of the orange menace’s outrageous lies about how he could have beaten PBO and bragging consumer confidence is due to him, not the rightful reason: also PBO, but I refuse to give him any numbers on twitter. Trying to ignore him on social media as much as possible and give positive reactions to all things Obama.

Good morning folks. I was told to stop re-tweeting positive things about the president. I have to,to counteract all negatives out there. I am a fierce protector of the president and his legacy. I also try not to mention the name of the demagogue if at all possible.
Starting January 1st I will be weaning myself off social media and by the 20th I should be off entirely. Those of you who remain, please counteract the negatives and do everything to stay positive and full of hope.
Nerdy, thanks for all you do here and for all the folks that keep me sane with their positive tweets and energy.
I hope this place will still be here so I can come to get renewed.
Chips and Danny, miss you lots….

It’s just and fierce – and, truth be told, a little frightening. This is what truth sounds like, out loud. This is what courage looks like, from a true diplomat who is invested in our country and the world at large. This is what the Obama principles look like. (I could go on, but you get the gist of what I’m thinking.)

Agreed. He is laying it all out on the line, for all to hear. Whether they LISTEN is another question. I am so proud of him. He has been an exemplary SOS.

I have thought that a million times but that’s the first time I’ve seen it online. He has picked some amazing and competent public servants who have been loyal to him with not a whiff of scandal in 8 years. Why? Because their leader models ethical behavior. Things usually rot from the top down.

Love SOS Kerry. A true Statesman. He has done so much, worked so hard these past 4 years. He leaves the office dignified, and with a strong moral path. Where the next administration takes it remains to be seen.

I love the relationship that PBO has with his daughters, but especially the one that he has with Malia. These two enjoy each other so much that she is even willing to ask him about his day during dinner and to listen to his answers (this gleaned from MO’s remarks in a recent interview). On an Ellen show episode he refers to her as “one of my best friends” and even though he can barely stand the idea of her leaving to go to college, he sees her as a “grown woman.” (Michelle is not there yet; she said Malia is still a baby). Some of my favorite video and photographic moments with the two of them are: when she encouraged and cheered on her parents to kiss at the basketball game for the Kiss Cam, when she stopped by the Easter Egg hunt, car keys in hand, to let him know that she was leaving, how PBO embraced her as they walked around a New York museum, and the one of the two of them in the Oval Office when she wiped something fro his face (again with keys in hand getting ready to leave). It is so obvious that there is love, mutual respect, friendship, and camaraderie between the two. She is an independent young woman who has the confidence and strong sense of self and purpose, that is due in part because of the nature of her relationship with her father. PBO always demurs and gives MO all of the credit, but it is easy to see his influence in how Malia has turned out.

Birther is insolent and incapable of the tinniest of social mores. There is something deeply lacking in this man-child. So grateful for PBO, will miss him so very deeply in the WH. But lord knows, he needs to rest after giving his all and then some more to this country these last 8 years.

    * Gallup’s newest report shows President Obama remains the most admired man in America, beating out Donald Trump. Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama were the most admired women. Whether this will lead to some kind of far-right boycott of the Gallup Organization is unclear.

I’m going to have to improve my tolerance for stupid…maybe not.

    https://newrepublic.com/minutes/139536/donald-trump-hasnt-quite-mastered-not-joke

The idea that Israel is being treated ā€œwith such total disdain and disrespectā€ by the Obama administration is a bit rich, given the amount of US aid the country receives and the fact that Netanyahu has ignored and disrespected Washington whenever he has felt like it over the past eight years—an attitude that predated the Iran deal, whatever you think of it. It’s especially rich coming from Trump, though, whose entire political career is based on treating Obama, who he said was not born in America, with ā€œtotal disdain and disrespect.ā€

But let’s not put the cart too far in front of the horse. Trump has also tried to use a ā€œnotā€ joke—possibly for the first time in American political history. But, while Trump’s best tweet pats himself on the back for not falling for Sacha Baron Cohen’s schtick, it seems that he could have learned something from the movie Borat.

Thanks meta for the heads up. I found it.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters has taken off her bedroom slippers and has on a pair of steel-toe boots! You go Maxine!!!
The California Democrat told MSNBC corespondent Jacob Soboroff that her party has a problem of bending over backward to work with Republicans.
ā€œI tell you, that has been a problem in my party,ā€ Mrs. Waters said. ā€œThat when we’re in power, we’re nice. We bend over backwards to work with people. Trump has stepped on everybody. He has no respect for his own colleagues, let alone those on the opposite side of the aisle.
ā€œHe’s called names, he’s lied. He’s done everything to show that he doesn’t have good values and he can’t be trusted,ā€ she continued. ā€œWhy should we work with someone that we can’t trust? He’ll tell you one thing today and another thing tomorrow. As a matter of fact, those people who voted for [him] ought to be really concerned about the fact that he has already backpedaled on some of the promises he made.
ā€œI have no intention of pretending everything is all right, that we’re going to work together,ā€ she added.
Mrs. Waters said she has a duty to fight Mr. Trump on his campaign promise to repeal some of the reforms that came about after the 2008 financial crisis.

President-elect Donald Trump is going to continue firing off unfiltered tweets even when he heads to the Oval Office next month, and conservative radio host Charlie Sykes thinks it’s emblematic of his limited intellect.

Via Daily Kos, Sykes appeared on Lawrence O’Donnell’s show this week and explained that Trump simply lacks the discipline and curiosity to think beyond 140-character blurbs on social media.

ā€œThis is really going to symbolize the quality of this man’s thought,ā€ he said. ā€œI mean, there was a time when we had presidents who read books. Now we have presidents who write in 140-character messages.ā€

In fact, Sykes hinted that it wouldn’t make sense for Trump to try to use more traditional means of communication as president because his thoughts aren’t big enough to make them necessary.

HEY! I agree with a conservative!!

I have respected SOS Kerry for many years. I was distraught in 2004 when the peabrain GWB defeated this towering man. I am thankful for him.

I LOVE Shave ice! We discovered it in 1985 on our first trip to Hawaii. We’ve tried it here on the mainland…..but it just is not the same. It is a Hawaiian treat, not duplicatable here. Kind of like gelato in Italy.

I am tired of the fear peddling donation emails that are flooding my inbox. Only a few list tangible things that they have done for the cause of social justice (the NAACP is Not one that does so) and fewer lists steps that will be taken for the so-called resistance. Too many people are going to wound up being the patsy that so many GOP donors became this past year. I know which organizations have a long-history and a success record (currently as well as in the past) in fighting for the most vulnerable in our society and have donated accordingly and did so before I was ever contacted by anyone. It is a great turn off to be inundated with all of the screaming, fear-inducing emails that have landed in my email since this election. Too many organizations on both sides are ginning up fear to the extent of making too many feel desperate and anxiety-filled. I consider this to be a form of abuse. Sure there is real cause for concern, but we will not have anything concrete to combat (and it will only matter if congress joins the fight) when the carnival barker and his staff of deplorables are formally in office. We need to be informed and ready with tangible steps on how to protect and to extend rights, and so far there is little that I have seen from the dunning organizations that send these emails. Furthermore, I am of the opinion that white people created this problem and it is white people that need to fix it. However, when most see that their privilege is not endangered, the silly hashtag resistance calls will end and most will settle into their lives relieved that they are not one of the targeted groups. Black and brown people have seen this show in one form or another since we have been on these shores and we do not expect anything to be different. We suffer no matter who is the White House or the State House. It’s funny how I have been getting all of these emails from the ACLU and other organizations about how to protect Muslims, particularly the hijab wearing women, when they are harassed, but I know that if I tried to intercede, when the cops show up, any Black people who are around will be the ones who will be handcuffed and hauled off to jail. A-A citizens have been dealing with real, unrelenting threats and danger everyday since we have been here with few standing up and certainly not for any sustained period of time. I will continue to give to organizations like the SPLC that is all-in and completely dedicated with the record (receipts) to prove what they have done and continue to do so effectively, and take political actions as necessary because icare about all of our citizens, but please, the so-called resistance will get no farther than Spring 2017 if that long.

We’ll talk about potential targets and goals for 2017, familiarize ourselves with other organizations doing the work, and discuss where we can each make change and how to move forward. Bring a friend, bring your worries, bring your best ideas, bring your hope, bring a notebook and something to write with.
