    From the part ll interview

Sometimes you get some TV shows that fill that void, but increasingly now, that’s splintered, too, so other than the Super Bowl, we don’t have a lot of common reference points. And you can argue that that’s part of the reason why our politics has gotten so polarized, is that—when I was growing up, if the president spoke to the country, there were three stations and every city had its own newspaper and they were going to cover that story. And that would last for a couple of weeks, people talking about what the president had talked about.

This contributes to why folks have their own facts….

Each year at work we have a Christmas party, this year I won a go-pro camera, I really didn’t have a use for it because I’m not one of those guys that drives down the highway on a motorcycle one hundred miles per hour with a camera strapped to my head. Anyway I took the camera back to bestbuy where it was purchased and I got my wife an iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner. That’s what she wanted, so I wasn’t going to complain seeing as I do all the vacuuming. Maybe she’s trying to tell me someone, but like most men that have to do chores around the house we look at it as a win win situation when we don’t have to do chores around the house.

We’ve been able to welcome over half a million guests, our outstanding pastry chefs have baked 200,000 holiday cookies, and Barack has treated the American people to countless dad jokes. Although a few got a Frosty reception.” —President Obama and First Lady @MichelleObama in their final holiday message at the White House. Black Folks, Stop Forgiving the Racists Who Harm Us

The more we forgive those who refuse to see us as people deserving respect, the more we assist in normalizing dehumanizing behavior

by Lincoln Anthony Blades, December 19, 2016

At the :45 second mark in the clip above, we see John Franklin McGraw, a White man proudly identifying as a Trump supporter, traversing an entire row just to sucker-elbow the eye of Rakeem Jones, a young Black man who was identified at the rally as a protester. Jones had attended the rally with three friends: a White woman, a Muslim and a gay man, as a social experiment to see what would occur. His curiosity was repaid with a concussive blow.

At the one-minute mark in the above clip, as this Fayetteville, N.C., Trump rally subsided, McGraw said, “Next time we see him, we might have to kill him” in regards to murdering an unarmed Black man who made the unfortunate decision of underestimating bloodthirsty White angst.

McGraw was later charged with assault and battery, disorderly conduct and communicating threats, and he pleaded “no contest” to the assault and disorderly conduct charges. On Wednesday, he was given a suspended 30-day jail sentence and one year of unsupervised probation. So, basically, nothing.

At the hearing, he took a moment to address Jones and apologize:

“You know what you did, and I know what I did. I’m not going to say you were wrong or I’m wrong. I hate it worse than anything in the world. If I met you in the street and the same thing occurred, I would have said, ‘Go on home. One of us will get hurt.’ That’s what I would have said. But we are caught up in a political mess today, and you and me, we got to heal our country.”

Jones reached out and put his hand on McGraw’s shoulder, and McGraw subsequently extended his hand, which Jones shook before embracing McGraw in a hug. The courtroom burst into post-racial applause, and media outlets like CNN spoke of the embrace as an apology. From the standpoint of racial reconciliation at a time when the country is almost irreparably divided by our differences, I knew I was supposed to digest it as a form of progress, but only one clear thought came to my mind:

    F–k that.

I am completely over the idea that Black folks strength is predicated in how much oppressive abuse we can absorb. I’m done with believing that people who intentionally harm us due to our melanin are deserving of forgiveness without conducting their own introspective moral review. I wholeheartedly refuse to provide exculpation without recompense.

Let’s be clear: not only was no apology delivered by McGraw who stated, “I’m not going to say you were wrong or I’m wrong,” but he actually decided to fully commit to sidestepping any form of qualitative atonement. In his mind and his words, the offense of flying his former Golden Glove fists into the face of an unsuspecting Black man was of equal sin to that Black man simply existing in a shared space with him. That sort of problematic thinking should not be rewarded by a round of applause in a court of law, and it definitely should not be repaid in absolution.

Thank you so much, Rikyrah, for sharing this! I am just appalled at some blacks, other people of color, and women who are willing to forget and forgive Trump’s overtly racist, misogynistic and xenophobic campaign! It is especially important for us Black people to learn from history! Booker T. Washington’s willingness to accomodate the Jim Crowd system, after the end of Reconstruction, did not end sharecropping, Lynching, and the institutionalization of racism throughout the country! What’s is called for in response to the Trump presidency, which represents the minority of American voters, is organized and sustained resistance! There is absolutely no way I would be willing to accomodate, or tolerate, white supremacists who believe that the only people who matter in the United States are white people.

I have zero luck finding photos or news tidbits about the First Family’s holiday in Hawaii this year. Just the stuff that goes out on the wire service. Happily, that probably means they’re not being bombarded by paparazzi while they’re trying to relax together. Our weather has been generally coolish and dampish– temps in the 70s, drifts of light rain off and on– but absolutely green and beautiful, for our president’s enjoyment 🙂 .

Just for a bit of the Hawaii mood, here’s a link to a favorite local version of the 12 Days of Christmas. Love and blessings to you all ❤

Can’t slow down that school-to-prison pipeline, can we?

A New Missouri Law Could Give Kids Serious Criminal Records For School Fights, Schools Say

And have a devastating impact on the school-to-prison pipeline.

    12/23/2016 10:29 am ET

    A new Missouri
statute is drawing the ire of civil rights advocates over concerns that
it unnecessarily criminalizes children. However, a state lawmaker says that the statute is being mischaracterized and does not spur significant change.

A letter to parents and guardians that Hazelwood School District
in St. Louis County sent recently said that a law taking effect Jan. 1
could result in school fights being treated as class E felonies. Class E felonies could result in up to four years in prison. The letter said these types of acts were previously treated as misdemeanors.
