Great article about who’s the toughest man in America (hint: his initials are PBO): http://www.alreporter.com/the-toughest-man-in-america/. It’s an interesting read, but as we’ve seen over the past several years – kinda sad too. What a country.

JOB, i laughed out loud when I read this–pretty much what I just posted on FB and decided I needed to get off given the roll I was on:-) I cannot stand anything about this man, and it gets worse every day. Spent some time just figuring out how to cite to some articles without including his photo because i refuse to have his photo on my page.

He just may be the worst human being I’ve encountered and I spent a career litigating against NY a…holes. He does not respect anyone or anything including the Office of President. And he has no idea what the world “class” means.

It is really interesting to see how almost all of the national magazines from Ebony/Essence to RollingStone to the NYT and WaPO have issues that are retrospective on The Obamas and the Obama administration. While much of this is about dollars and end-of-the-year solvency (they know that featuring them on the cover is a guaranteed sale) some of it is about the too-late realization of what we have had for 8 years. The one thing of value in the whole debacle of a DT presidency, is that the media and others (cannot get over Glenn Beck’s “road to Damascus” change of attitude), have finally admitted what they have known all along : that a good, kind, strong, intelligent, and effective man took us from the depths to the heights. While I appreciate the volumes that I am adding to my personal Obama Library, their efforts are too late. They had to see just how ugly, ugly could be before they would admit that PBO is a transformational figure whose influence will live long, here and abroad, after that helicopter takes him “some place warm” after he has done one last distasteful duty for an ungrateful nation. The media made the way forward much slower and progress more tenuous because they reneged on their duties to the nation. What is the use to have freedom of the press enshrined in our constitution if it will only be used to spread hurtful gossip and out-right lies instead of searching from the truth and sharing with the rest of us? The jackals, who snapped at his ankles for 8 years were sad and tearful that day because they know what they have wrought. PBO treated them with respect and professionalism, at times begging them to do their jobs, begging the TV execs to carry certain speeches in the early days that they took joy in denying (we will be losing money they said, but we know what it was really about). There were some here that were going on and on about PBO’s failure in messaging, but every message needs a conduit and most of them were closed to him and any information that he wanted to get out to the public. Thank God for social media and the unconventional ways that he and his administration used to get some information where it was most needed. So while I am pleased to see the bookstore shelves full of different magazines doing end of term coverage, most of it favorable, I will not forgive them for want they did to the stifle the country’s progress and to lay the groundwork for the monstrosity that is facing us for the next 4 to 8 years.

Love this CEB. I would add just one qualification. It is easy to forget today just how damn scary those times were for everyone. 800,000 Americans PER MONTH were losing jobs, and his new administration was so busy trying to hold it together there simply was not enough time to worry about messaging and the kind of stunts this new admin already is pulling. PBO was trying to save the entire global financial system from collapsing, and got virtually no credit when he pulled it off.

    Hell Yeah!

We don’t need a Trump-nominated supreme Court justice. We desperately don’t need such a person. And there is no reason to have one. The Democrats in the Senate should just filibuster any nomination for the next four years. Now, you may say that a president deserves to have the nominee of his choice voted on. But those were the old rules before we saw how the Republican Party treated Barack Obama. They just told him no, no, no on everything. Everything. They even threatened the home mortgages of government employees by closing down the government. Twice. They vilified Obama, shouted disrespectfully at him from the floor of Congress, and then they refused even to let his Supreme Court nominee, a centrist, come up for a vote. They declared President Obama a lame duck when he had 11 months left in his presidency.
I declare Donald Trump a lame duck now. Four years out. Here are the reasons the Senate should block his nominee:

          yes i understand..

i cannot get a handle on my emotions…i try to use the freedom fighters of old..who faced a greater threats…to take inspiration from their courage…i look around at folks in my circle….they seem to not have a clue of the impending danger….Just this morning…news of Putin/Trump appearing to ramp up the nuclear arms race…Netanyahu fearing that the US was going to side with the UN vote condemning the settlements….he reached out to trump (bypassing the President) who then reached out to Egypt and got a delay of the UN vote….then the NYT…that bastion of liberal news stated for the world to see…telling lies about how the Obama Coalition crumbled….once again taking a shot at the President….sometimes it just seems like too much…

        • December 23, 2016 at 9:20 am

prettyfoot58, if the Dems can fine something to agree with the Republicans, that is good for the poor, working class, that is fine, but do not bow down to those right wing idiots, fight, and stand up for this country. Obstruct, fiibuster, do what the Republicans did and they got rewarded for their disgusting behavior this pass eight years.

can’t help wondering now if insurers pushed the rate increase partly as a subversive move to try to undermine Obamacare during a crucial election cycle … remembering the negative headlines the press went with at the time, not bothering to explain how rates had historically increased at an even higher rate

      • 105 57andfemale
        December 23, 2016 at 12:16 pm

It was built into the law because the focus was on the financial health of the law when it was written and a little boost at this point made sense. However, having a rate increase come in an election year was pretty stupid. Even before we knew that GOP would lie their asses off about the law and wouldn’t do a damned thing to fix the few things that needed fixing, it was still stupid. But Dems in Congress and PBO were thinking that things would be normal.
