my thoughts on CIA’s conclusion on Russia’s assist to trump during election:
whoever released to the Washington Post, the details of the CIA findings about Russia’s interference to help trump meant to shake things up.
I think the goal was to make the information public before the electors certify the election and cast their votes.
somethings that strike me is that :
– the details of the report indicate that the legislative leaders where informed BEFORE the election;
– all Dems favored a release of the information while gop & specifically McConnell threatened to publicly accuse PBO of interference with political interference;
– PBO and Dems kept to their end of the agreement not to release information but from what we know the gop did not;
It appears that whoever released the information to the Post is aware that PBO was hoping SoS HRC would win but now he is trying to prevent the accusations that he “took” an election from a gop successor;
to me, the situation the nation finds itself in means ordinary people, outside the government, have to take react and take the lead.
Where are those with legal training? these learned friends should stand up and take the lead.
ordinary people have to mobilize and support those who take the lead. advocacy organizations have to motivate their supporters.
we need to send petitions to know legal scholars and law schools to file the proper paperwork.

I think your assessment is spot -on Linda. There are people on Twitter popping off about President Obama “putting the country at risk” without trying to understand what has really happened, or without having all the facts.
There ‘s still a lot unfolding, and I believe PBO himself leaked this info, or okay’d the leak in time for the Electoral College decision on December 19.

The trouble with the report is that it does not say ipso facto that Hillary ;lost the election because of hacking,,,,if they has said that…then there might be constitutional grounds to call for what??…they had to have evidence that trump and Putin wrked hand and hand…and if that was the case that would mean that trump is guilty of treason

A very disconcerting day. Nice to know that the PE prefers Russian intelligence over the CIA. I also do not understand why PBO did not release the info before the election. F… McConnell, he could have stated that McConnell opposed the release. While it is extremely upsetting, is it the reason she lost the election? My instincts say NO, what killed her chances at the end was Comey. The last 10 days before the election the ONLY thing the media reported on was the Comey letter and those new emails. And I suspect that was the reason the late deciding voters went so heavily for DT.
Russia should pay for this but it won’t happen under DT. At this point, I am sick.

What bothers me is the MSM gave The Donald so much media coverage during the election. They pretty much broadcasted every rally he did in totality. His opponents had next to no coverage whether it was in the primary or general election.
During PBO’s 8 years in office when he visited plants to get the private companies going the media ignored him or just broadcast little sections of his speeches. When there were important policies he was not getting covered. Then they said he was a poor communicator since people were not aware of what he had done or how it worked.
Trump is not even President yet and the media is broadcasting every unnecessary rally he does even though the election is over. Trump really does not want to do the work involved with being the President. He is not even going to security briefings. He just likes the adulation and attention from the crowds. Yes! The media has a big role in this fiasco.

Good morning all. I did not watch NBC at 7:00. turned on ABC at 8:00. They led with the CIA/Russia story and talked to Michael Dowd and some retired Colonel or General. (name??) They covered EVERYTHING except the bipartsian meeting and that he R’s, led by McConnell, would not go along with releasing info to the public. NO mention of it!!!!!!!! 😦 😦 😦 ARGH!

I have also been reading how some persons in Gov’t are saying that while CIA ‘s report says Russia interfered, the FBI’s apparently stated that there was no clear evidence of Russia’s interference. Could PBO and Justice Department act on CIA’s findings alone? Would the FBI not have to carry out the investigation to lead to any action?
Debate about this going on with many on social media it seems.
At this point anything that the FBI says must be taken with a grain of salt because of the actions of Director Comey prior to the election. And I’m certainly not saying that the CIA is a paragon of virtue given their history. But Trump I do believe has a history with Russia. What a goddamn mess.
This Russian hacking is so upsetting to me. I lived through the dark days of the cold war and the Soviet Union. I think there are some who don’t realize the evil inherent in their system. That hasn’t changed. I also know that the president has had this investigation going on long before he announced he was authorizing it. He is always working behind the scenes.
I have had the feeling since November 9th and have said, we are sitting on a volcano, about to erupt. I didn’t know exactly what it would be, but we see it building and building. I have also had the feeling that DJT will never be inaugurated…..we’ll see on that one. But this next week will be interesting.

Yesterday someone (df??) shared a link–Investigate the FBI–from the schoenblog. Driving home yesterday (2.5 hrs.), had my radio on Progressive station. Listening to M. Signorile. He actually had on the attorney Randol Schoenberg. He has another attorney working with him. First, they’ve tried to use the FIOA to get their eyes on the warrant Comey used to see the emails on Weiner’s computer. That didn’t work–refused so now, as the article df shared says, they are suing the FBI to see that warrant. He explaied in detail how that warrant and everything surrounding it makes NO sense. Pieces do not fit. Talked about how this all started with Congress doing a political investigation (of Clinton), which is “okay”/”legal”, but the FBI is only supposed to be involved in a criminal investigation. NOTHING has been found that was criminal. I don’t have time this morning to give much more detail, but his premise is that there’s something “off” about the FBI getting that warrant. They would HAVE to have something feasible to take to a judge that would show criminal intent and he contends there’s no way that was the case. He is absolutely convinced there was hanky panky involved. Is determined to prove it, even if it’s months from now. He and the people working for/with him are going to stay with this issue.

My thoughts are it is probably too late to do anything about this election result and Donald Trump taking office BUT President Obama wants to leave the report and evidence that the totally run by GOP party would do nothing about. Nixon’s second term election scandal took awhile to unwind. Maybe if the Dems could figure out how to control the Senate and/or the House in 2018 they could conduct a real investigation at that time with results including an impeachment.

It seems very clear to me that FBI Director Comey’s October 28 letter announcing a reopening of the investigation into e-mails from Hillary Clinton changed the outcome of the election. For nine of the last 11 days before the election, the negative story dominated the news and cast a cloud over her candidacy, and the polls reflected a downturn for Clinton during that same time. In the end, Clinton narrowly lost four states — Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania — where voters who said they decided in the last week greatly favored Trump. I think it is safe to say that without Comey’s letter, Clinton would be our President.
As strange, and possibly illegal, as it was for Comey to make his announcement regarding the investigation so close to the election, from the outset, I wondered what the legal grounds were for searching through the new e-mails found on the laptop of her aide Huma Abedin’s estranged husband Anthony Weiner. Two days after the letter, on Sunday October 30, the New York Times reported that the Justice Department had obtained a search warrant. I have yet to see any further reporting on the warrant. To get a search warrant issued, the FBI needed to go to a federal judge. It is interesting to me that Comey sent his letter before obtaining the warrant. The publicity certainly must have influenced the judge. A judge cannot simply grant any request for a search warrant. Under the Fourth Amendment, a search must be reasonable, meaning that there must be “probable cause” or a “reasonable suspicion” that evidence of a crime will be discovered. Ordinarily, the FBI submits an affidavit describing the evidence that gives rise to the reasonable suspicion. We have yet to see what evidence the FBI relied on in seeking the warrant.
He just sued the FBI to get information regarding all this. I pray its not too little, too late

DF, it would not be difficult to find probable cause for a warrant given the emails–which were State Department emails–on WEINER’S computer. He is not a State department employee. Remember Petreus’ crime was sharing info with his mistress. But what I never understood about this was two fold:
1. How would this relate to CLINTON’S intent with respect to emails? She had nothing to do with Weiner. If anything, it may relate to wrong doing on the part of Abedin, not Clinton.
2. Rather than send a letter to Congress, why didn’t Comey get the search warrant immediately on Thursday night, review the emails Friday and determine nothing new there. Remember, if he could get this on Sunday night he easily could have gotten it on Thursday night. Instead, he sent the letter to Congress, let three days of negative publicity go by, and then gets a search warrant on SUNDAY night? Completely ass backwards. Had he followed the usual progression of getting the search warrant immediately, there would have been no need for the letter and the resulting publicity.
Finally, as to why Comey remains there (and I question whether he can survive this) is I suspect because PBO knows he cannot get a replacement through Congress at this point, and he figures Comey is better than someone that DT might appoint.

Finally got my Christmas tree up and feeling alittle more Christmas spirit. Here is my wild Christmas tree. Have been to some Christmas parties and no one wants to talk about what is happening. Everyone is scared and holding their breathe. The parties I have been to there are all both dems and repubs. It’s hard to hold a meaningful conversation. At least I can make the calls to our congress people. Again thanks to all for keeping us informed.
