President Obama not having any events on his schedule today most likely because of ….

No way that that letter hasn’t been thoroughly vetted with the President before it was sent and made public.

Bob – I was just going to post that the President fully had been briefed about that letter in advance, and probably responded, “Bring it on.” But I see you’ve covered that thought!

He has also practically demonstrated his commitment to public service

Thank you Linda for posting that tweet.

We don’t have ‘the next four years’ … we have the next 12 DAYS (barely) … If Trump becomes President you can fully expect the Impeachment of Barack Obama & Hillary Clinton to be the 1st order of business of the Trumpian House of Representatives.

    A beloved Commander-in-chief, and a beloved President!

A personal memory: at my husband’s grave site, when the young Air Force Sergeant presented me with my husband’s flag, chills went through me, and tears filled my eyes when she said : On behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Armed Services, Barack Obama…..I cannot express the feeling I had. My husband had loved President Obama, and I am so thrilled that all of his recognition papers were signed by him.

I am tired of people telling me that we have to find ‘ common ground’ with Ferret Head Voters.
We honestly don’t have a choice but to obstruct and say no.

Just exactly what we are supposed to compromise on?

The removal of healthcare for 20 million Americans?

    The Muslim Registry?

Seeing, what, a million DREAMERS thrown out of this country and families torn apart?

The destruction of the American Social Safety Net?

The taking away of abortion and a woman’s right to self-determination?

Just say OK, when a RACIST, in word and professional deed, is nominated to become the CHIEF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER OF THIS COUNTRY?

Just be OK with a White Supremacist and Anti-Semite in the White House holding a FORMAL Advisor position?

I’m curious, just what the phuck do people believe I’m supposed to compromise with these muthaphuckas?

    • December 7, 2016 at 1:34 pm

rikyrah, no common ground exists with Trumpians.

They are the ENEMY of our America, and humanity – no less so than those we fought in WWII; no less so than Al Qaeda, no less so than DAESH, no less so than Stalin’s USSR, no less so than Jefferson Davis and his slave owning Confederate buddies ….

Tell it Rikyrah, I’m not trying to understand shit about a Trump voter. I’m not trying to reach across the isle and I’m not trying to feel their pain. Because in my eyes their happiness is contingent upon everyone else that isn’t white catching pure hell. The fuck I want to understand them, fuck them.

It is funny how getting to know everyone here is just by their words and what is in their hearts. For the most part we do not know race. I appear to be a White woman (15/16) the other (1/16) is Native American. I moved to this reservation 16 years ago so am now embracing my other side. My tribe was dissolved when I was seven my Dad did not talk about relatives so I did not even know of my heritage. Our tribe was restored when I was thirty-eight. It was not until my husband had died, I retired from teaching and I moved back to the Lower 48 as Alaskans say that I discovered my background for myself. I love this blog and all my friends here. I am happy to keep company with other PBO admirers. That is our mutual bond.

What a Minority Does to Maintain Power
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    December 7, 2016 1:22 PM

Josh Marshall is right to point to this article by Michael Barone as an important indicator of what is driving our politics these days. Noting that Clinton will win the state of California by something like 62 points, Barone literally warns that without the electoral college, white America would be colonialized by “those people” in California.

California has been called the Left Coast for quite a while. Just about everyone in Silicon Valley except Peter Thiel and in Hollywood except Pat Sajak supported Clinton. White middle class families have been pretty well priced out of the state by high taxes and housing costs, and the Hispanic and Asian immigrants who have replaced them vote far more Democratic…

California’s 21st century veer to the left makes it [electoral college] a live issue again. In a popular vote system, the voters of this geographically distant and culturally distinct state, whose contempt for heartland Christians resembles imperial London’s disdain for the “lesser breeds” it governed, could impose something like colonial rule over the rest of the nation. Sounds exactly like what the Framers strove to prevent.

Allow me a brief detour to wonder how those Hispanic and Asian immigrants are managing to survive in a state that “priced out” white middle class families. But we’ll have to leave that discussion to another day. Barone never tackles that one.

Another thing Barone doesn’t mention in his attempt to scare people about being overrun by the Hispanic and Asian immigrants in California is that the same phenomenon that he describes in that state is also at work reducing Republican margins in red states like Arizona, Texas and Georgia. In other words, if he feels the need to halt the “colonialization” of white America – he’d better get to work in those states, regardless of whether or not the electoral college survives.

But Josh Marshall also notes the bigger picture.

This is the mindset of a person and, I think, a political movement that fears that their power cannot be maintained in the context of majoritarian democracy. It’s of a piece with voter suppression, voter ID checks, expulsion of undocumented immigrants — the nationalist surge that drove the outcome of this election.

    • December 7, 2016 at 1:57 pm

and also from the PL…and some dems who want to bemoan the loss of white workers at the expense of the rest of us….not tackling the issue of racism will do that too ya

Between the profound and caring words of Barack Obama to our troops and the heroic choice Hillary Clinton made to embrace our diversity and pluralistic values and then winning by almost three million votes, I could cry for my country and what could have been. I have no common ground with anyone with voted for Trump, is bystanding the disaster unfolding or that sabotaged Hillary Clinton from the left (Bernie, that’s you.)

    • December 7, 2016 at 5:46 pm

      Completely agree.

It’s clear to me that Putin is in charge. Look at what’s coming out of Russia and all the publicity/propaganda about the US election. Putin desperately needs Crimea recognized as Russia, and the sanctions lifted. Trump has agreed, which will piss off NATO & the UN, and violate nearly every international treaty we have.

Look at the appointments: In every single case, it’s someone who would love to KILL the department they’re going to head. WHY? It’s going to be a systematic destruction of the entire Government.

Of course, that’s if Ryan & the GOP don’t dump Trump the day after the Electors meet, (unless they save us), and it’s official. Pence is their endgame, because he’s worse, and controllable, and Putin is in for a big surprise….

But that brings up, what will Donny & Putin do then? Donny will be in jail, since that’s really the only way the GOP can shut him the hell up. But Putin may spill a LOT… on the GOP.

Well actually these military appointments reflect the prizes for those US generals who participated in the psyops, rigging, hacking of US presidential election to put Donald in the Oval. It’s true. It was a slo mo coup which started with the Rolling Stones article in 2010.

Suggestion: while” Obama and Kids” have been celebrated many times, I think there is room to celebrate how he relates to people who are his senior in age. He is very careful with those who are infirm, a steadying hand always at the ready; he comforts those who have suffered loss and celebrates those with whom he shares joy, and talks with them as he would talk to his Tutu. Some photos that come to mind are: The Australian visit when a survivor of a WWII tragedy held onto him and cried, He and Michelle dancing with the 101 year old A-A woman (can’t remember her name), the various wheel-chair bound vets he has met at various functions who showed their love and respect, and of course, the almost iconic one of the elderly vet who insisted on rising from his wheelchair to salute his CIC, and his love and respect for his Sioux father before he died. Another thread could be of his role as Scientist-in Chief (the world of science and innovation is really going to miss him) with photos of him geeking out with scientists young and old, and finally, I would really like to see a collection of photos of him laughing, teasing, and enjoying himself. This diary is our love song to a great man; let us continue to sing his praises loud and clear until he leaves his time as the 44th President of the United States of America.
PS. I love this current thread that focuses on him as CIC.
