I know Jon Stewart is saying you CAN’T call ALL his supporters racists…..I say, YES WE CAN. Look who DT is putting in his administration, DOJ, etc., they are known racists, homophobes, women haters just like the people close to him there are a lot of people who Jon Stewart wouldn’t know or consider racists. He claims they’re made their insurance premiums are too high, well boo fucking hoo at least you can get insurance. Wait until Obamacare is destroyed then tell me how much you care about your insurance premiums when you can’t BUY insurance due to pre-existing conditions or no job, or your business was sent to China ass holes or we are in a pissing match with No. Korea or Russia.

I think government jobs being down is attributed to a GOP Congress and many GOP governors cutting where they could in the interest of making Obama look worse in trying to make him a one term president, then in getting back in power. They then point to the job losses. The public believes what they say when there is no push back from the press. Propaganda?

Some good news: my little dog Kasper who had bladder stone surgery last December just had an ultrasound and NO STONES. His type of stones were the worst, and almost always recur within a year, outside 18 months (so we’re monitoring carefully). That surgery was some of the worst doggie hell I’ve ever been through, and I’ve been through some serious doggie hell.

We changed vets to a traditional/holistic vet who I credit for holding off recurrence – supplements, “bone broth” to flush him out. Also, she is very reasonably priced. We now realize the vet that we trusted for 36 years had been ripping us off royally.

We are overjoyed. I’m starting to consider adopting again, but we need to get through Christmas without Pearl. She loved the tree……..

Ahhhhh, 57, that is good news – all around. I look forward to your stories about searching and finding your next one to love. Maybe you can hang a picture of Pearl on the tree this year. ❤

        December 2, 2016 at 1:59 pm

I asked Mr. 57 if he thought we were ready to adopt, and he wants to wait until after Christmas. It will be our final good bye to Pearl – she loved the tree, scrunched up the tree skirt and that was her bed through the holidays. Mr. 57 said it perfectly, “It’s still her year. 2016 is her year.” I always leave it up to the Universe: I’m not good for much, but I pick the right dog at the right time. Or the right dog picks me. It’s gotta be a little girl, though: I so miss having another woman in the house!

I found fantastic “Pearl” ornaments this year. She will always have a special place on the tree…….

Exactly how I feel, my friend. Her memory is best served with our open hearts and loving home. I’ll know when it’s right.

I looked at Pearl’s photo at the shelter for weeks before I went to see her. Was I crazy, considering a 7 year old dog who had been through hell her entire life as a puppy mill breeder? After losing three elderly dogs in 2 years? She’d been up for adoption for a month, and something told me that day to go see her. She was okay with me at first, just observing all the other dogs who were getting adopted. They had named her Jewels, and after holding her for 45 minutes I called her Pearl. And she turned around and looked me right in the eye. I called Mr. 57, told him to pick up cash; but if he didn’t feel what I felt, we wouldn’t get her. He didn’t even get through the door when he said, “Oh, is she adorable.” He asked if I was really ready, I’d been through so much heartbreak. Maybe we should “sleep on it.” And I thought – was I going to be another lady who held her for awhile and then put her back in a cage? I knew I’d be dragging Mr. 57 out of bed at 3:00 a.m. so we’d be there when the shelter opened. Why not start her life right then? The best decision I ever made.

Great news 57andfemale. My male kittie had crystals which is comparable to stones in dogs I guess. He is doing much better after 3 days at the vet, flushing his bladder and $2k plus later in vet bills. He is just 3yrs old so he has a long time to be with me. Glad you found a vet who is caring and not too expensive. A friend helped me give him fluids and I changed his diet to raw and the urinalysis food. So far so good. Hope Kasper continues to thrive and get well.

Hi jojo. So glad to hear that your “Mr. Kittie” is still doing well. 🙂

      • 24 57andfemale
        December 2, 2016 at 2:12 pm

Particularly for cats, raw food is excellent for avoiding stones. And for cats, the crystals are a good indication of where you’re at – that wasn’t completely true for Kasper. Flushing out is still the singular most important thing you can do. We make “bone broth” for him so he gets a lot of liquid. I’ll ask if that would help your kitty drink more.

I’m pretty experienced at giving fluids to dogs – something I never thought I could do but we do what we must. I was never able to do it on my own – Mr. 57 had to monitor the drip while I held the dogs.

We were always willing to pay whatever the vet said we must, but I greatly resent that this vet had been ripping us off. We were social friends before we started going to him, so we really feel betrayed. It’s not that we’re getting short-changed by the new vet: this is an excellent place, highly recommended. And as I near a time when I want to consider cutting back on working for the sociopath, we’re going to be looking at a more fixed income. I want to be able to care for the dogs, instead of enriching a greedy vet. He would have charged $600+ for Kasper’s visit yesterday, and he didn’t even have the ultrasound equipment. He would have done an x-ray only. The new vet did an x-ray, a handheld ultrasound, gave him supplements and we out of there for $240! The final straw with the old vet was with Pearl when he was charging $105/week for a B12 shot. I had already been seeing the holistic vet for supplements and dietary recommendations for Kasper, and asked what they would charge: $12/shot or they would give me a bottle and syringes and I could do it myself for under $50 for the entire 13-week course of treatment! The vet grumbled when we complained – after all he was “examining” her. No. He wasn’t. He gave her the shot. He even missed the signs of anemia that eventually took her. And Mr. 57 had to drive pretty far to take her there.

I’m comfortable with the new vet. The dogs love it there. It’s close to the house.

Sending your kitty good vibes! Kitty’s got a great mommy!

A good vet is worth their weight in gold! My kittie used to drink a lot of water but he likes dry food more than the wet food. He was always a picky eater would not eat much wet foot where there is a sufficient amount of water in it. So thankful my friend could help me get fluids while I held him down. I was able to give my older cat fluids by myself but not this guy. I will put water in his food so he gets enough fluids but I just need to watch that he goes by monitoring the cat box.

          Thank you GGail!

Jojo, I agree on the raw for your kitty if he will eat it. I have a 16 year old Norwegian Forest Cat who has been hospitalized twice for crystal blockages, once around 8 years ago and once 2 years ago. About 6 weeks ago, he started having seizures, which in older cats can be helped by diet. Tried switching the two of them to raw food from the urinalysis food but neither would eat it after a couple of days and they both lost weight. I finally just went to their favorite moist “junk” food, Friskies, twice a day and so far so good. Between the two of them, they’re eating a 13.5 0z can a day. He became hyperthyroid a couple of years ago, which we’re treating with meds, so I really didn’t want to have to add anti-seizure meds. It’s now been a month since they are only eating the moist, he’s gained weight and importantly NO seizures for a month!

One of the things my vetted noted the first time is that Fall is the most likely time for this happen in male cats because they drink less when it cools off. She suggested adding water to their food in the Fall to make sure they’re getting enough liquids.

            December 2, 2016 at 7:13 pm

My kittie is 3yrs old and he’s had problems 3 times – once in Feb (it was a warm Feb in SoCal) and twice in summer. I think it was because I was giving him a lot of treats. I give him dry urinalysis formula and wet urinalysis from pet store but not prescription food from vet which he will not eat. He has lost a lot of weight which scares me but the vet says he’s fine. He was never fat so losing any weight because he would not eat wet food is not good. He is drinking water but I do warm it up so it’s not so cold.

              December 2, 2016 at 7:30 pm

You might want to try adding something tasty to the water to get him to drink more. I used to use chicken broth with my nursing moms and they loved it but make sure you go for low sodium. For a number of years I used the prescription urinalysis food and then went to non-prescription when ProPLan came out with it. That seemed to work well until the seizures started which really scared me. The other thing that might help is that gravy stuff they make, with some water. I do think quite a bit of liquid is the key. When my boy had his second episode one of my dogs was in critical care and I wasn’t paying attention to the cats until it was too late. Good luck with your baby, I am keeping my fingers crossed on my boy. But for the moment, he seems good again, still jumping and running around at 16 years!

“If the GOP spends so much time, effort, and money at preventing people from voting, shouldn’t Democrats spend even more on turning out the vote? Get people IDs. Drive people to the polls. Find a solution to every obstacle Republicans throw up. They like to say that voting is a “privilege”. No, it’s not. It’s the foundation of our Republic. It’s the right without which all other rights vanish. Republicans won’t trumpet the right to vote; Democrats have to make sure that voting is seen as a sacred exercise, as the surest way to attain the government you want and need.”

I agree, but I do think some time needs to be spent to determine why so many young voters did not turn out at all, or voted for a third party candidate. While I know they weren’t thrilled with Hillary, PBO remains very popular with them and even he couldn’t convince them. This should be the group that has the most on the line with their whole futures ahead of them and they threw it away. In all three of the states that could have turned the election for Hillary, Jill Stein took enough votes to tip the election to Trump. And I highly doubt the Stein voters were older voters. So what happened there? That question must be answered.

My grandparents came to California in the 1920s & 30’s. One of my grandfathers shares the same name but unlike this young man my grandfather lived to almost 90 years old. I am sure my grandparents left the south due to the racist laws in the south as well as more opportunities in the west. They still experienced racism in California because racism is viable institution in America.

Well it doesn’t really matter because McKnight did not have a gun, he was just a black man which =’s white man was too frightened and was in fear of his life so he used his gun to kill an unarmed AA man which is legal in America. Witnesses be damned. No all white jury would convict him.

Just an awful situation — people believe they’re justified in shooting another person, and the law appears to be on their side. Seems like every adult who fires a gun at another person should be prosecuted — let juries weigh the evidence — but of course, all white juries are also a problem (don’t know the race of the person who fired the shots, but can take an educated guess).

Hi arapaho415. Yes it appears the person who shot McKnight was white from the picture someone took of a person handcuffed and sitting on the ground on MSN Internet website. In FL the AA woman who shot a gun in the “air” to make her abusive husband get away from her was prosecuted for endangering people in the house because she “could have killed” someone…..when a white person ACTUALLY kills someone one because, fear of AA with NO WEAPON…you go free because self-defense.

Omigosh, instead of #TrumpTV, could we look forward to #ObamaTV?!?!?!?

    From @nycjim’s Twitter timeline:

    From the article:
“President Barack Obama has been discussing a post-presidential career in digital media and is considering launching his own media company, according to multiple sources who spoke on background because they were not authorized to speak for the president.

Obama considers media to be a central focus of his next chapter, these sources say, though exactly what form that will take — a show streaming on Netflix, a web series on a comedy site or something else — remains unclear. Obama has gone so far as to discuss launching his own media company, according to one source with knowledge of the matter, although he has reportedly cooled on the idea of late.”

If we’ve learned nothing else from PBO’s presidency, it’s that he’s always one step ahead. Remember this from David Remnick’s @newyorker profile:

A message that says we have to be our brother’s keepers, our sister’s keepers. That we have to reach out to each other, to forgive each other, to let the light of our good deeds shine for all. To care for the sick, and the hungry, and the downtrodden. And of course, to love one another, even our enemies, and treat one another the way we would want to be treated ourselves. It’s a message that grounds not just my family’s Christian faith, but that of Jewish Americans, Muslim Americans; nonbelievers and Americans of all backgrounds. Interesting morning. Guess the idea of Trump’s presidency diminishes all my other concerns. I always had a theory not to hire friends or friends of relatives or even friends of friends if possible. If you are not happy with the service it presents a double problem getting out of it. Living in a rural area I am faced with being surrounded by Rush Limbaugh listeners and Fox News watchers. So obviously they are Trump supporters.

During one of my dental appointments when Obama was running I had made it known I was his supporter. While my mouth was pried open with my dentist talking and working on me I realized he was a Romney supporter and I was in a precarious position.

My pedicurist blared Rush Limbaugh on the radio on my first visit. Thank God she played Xmas music today instead. The last time I was there she nipped my little toe instead of the toe nail. So today when she was working on my feet and started seriously warning me about Muslims in Germany (as I am going there for Xmas and my daughter’s wedding) and talking about Sharia Law and spreading it throughout the world. I knew it must have been some Rush Limbaugh lie, but was in another precarious situation. Now I will look for a new pedicurist even though she is a relative of a friend.
