Have I told you how much I love and appreciate everything you do Nerdy? If let me say so now. Thanks for your continuing work here on TOD and your awesome tweets.
Because he is wise and strong and accepting of others…and not afraid of differences, nor is he threatened by them. I will miss this great President with every fiber of my being. Just knowing that he will be fighting along side me, gives me strength. We WILL bend this country toward justice for all. We will.
We will not give up, partially because of his “legacy.” I don’t think he cares about his personal legacy, but instead where he’s brought the country … and where we wish it to remain. We will not give up.
Nerdy, I, too, thank you so much. Even though I don’t comment much I read, listen and look. You, this site and everyone who comments lift my spirits. Thank you, thank you!
I second your thoughts. I love this site and th the inspiration and comfort it provides, and thank you NW and all TODers. And, damn, I love our President!
i agree…
the struggle for freedom and justice has taught me is that a people who yearn to be free will always rise….as Dr King says…’Truth crushed to the earth will rise again…
America did not appreciate this man. Oh what he could of done. My feelings, congress put him in shackles (day one), threw him in the river and demanded that he swim. Despite all that , he swam, carrying the weight of our country….and it wasn’t good enough for half our country. President Obama is a far sighted thinker, unfortunately we live in a short sighted, 24 hour news world. He will be missed.
Aloha Obamadons!
Thanks you Nerdy for these posts, allowing us to continue our conversations, our organizing, our lamenting, and our support for PBO. Every day I say, ‘Obama is the President ; he’s got this’. I trust him, I know he’s on top of all that worries us, and I love that I can come here with all of you and find out how we can stand for him, for our country, and for what is right. This is a sacred space, to me, and I hope our dear Chips knows how we love and appreciate her, and what she’s created.
today was a challenging day for our campus and the city of Columbus Ohio;
;
yes, our name and number was called and we go to be on the list that all communities dread to be on;
;
you hear similar reports about other places and you hope and pray that similar incidents never happen on the streets you just walked, buildings you know, place you love and definitely not in your ‘hood;
;
it is jarring to see the crime scene tape come up in a place you are always walking, parking, resting or waiting for the bus and across from your church, classroom and favorite study/reflection place;
;
it is something to see and hear people you know hold the dreaded press conferences about victims, injuries and suspects;
;
but the greatest shock is to get those calls of deep concern from family members and friends, domestic and international, who are checking to see that you are alive or not caught up in the events of the day;
;
prayers for the injured and their families.
;
Ps,
Columbus has the second highest number of immigrants from Somalia in the nation (after Minneapolis/St Paul area).
;
Talking to some of them after the election, many were already traumatized by the result – as are most of us immigrants aka Americans by Choice.
;
Today’s incident has just amplified the vulnerability that we already feel – lots of tears and deep worry about a backlash.
;
Waiting and hoping that the backlash does not come to pass … but many have already shown that they are willing to victimize others.
Linda, I am so so sorry that this happened in your community. It has to be far worse than “usual” given the current political climate. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your friends. Be kind to yourself and give yourself permission to grieve for the innocence lost today.
Sadly, this young man is not alive to tell us what caused him to act this way and hurt so many. Mental illness? Fear? We’ll never know. My thoughts and prayers go out to the community.
when i listen to the above video…i am so moved by the insight of our President..his generosity of spirit…
i have re listened for the umpteenth time to some of my favorite videos of the President..and i always go back to some of his earliest ones…his commence address at Notre Dame…he spoke of the importance of finding common ground among people of varied backgrounds and POV…how different our country would have been if #WeThePeople had been able to do this….we were fortunate that we were able to come together and re elect this great man…but as the President has said…Progress is not promised…it requires work…
i often wonder if the DNC realizes what a missed the opportunity for greatness…it has done by not embracing the President…
this is one of my top-five videos….the President’s commencement speech at Notre Dame

Listening to the video of PBO that NW posted should make us stand up and loudly proclaim that we will be right next to him in all endeavors.
PBO gets us. He really gets us.
I think that we all need to bookmark this place in time, so that the history and the reality of what PBO has worked so hard on these last 8 years can not be erased. We need to note, for all the world to see, what is true and real for this time. Republicans will try and change the truth and we can not let them, so we have to mark this time in facts. I’ll give you an example. Paul Ryan wants to privatize Medicare. He’s saying, right now, that it is BECAUSE of Obamacare that Medicare is going bankrupt and the only way to “SAVE” it, is to privatize it. This is utter bullshit. We know it, HE knows it, but yet, here we are. Americans have no idea that Obamacare extended the life of that program, as well as so many other good things that it’s done! We need to OWN AND CLAIM all the goodness! THEY WILL TRY AND CHANGE THE REALITY, and in 2 years, when congress has an election, we need to throw these facts at them and make THEM OWN all the destruction they wanted to reign down on citizens of this country for the love of money, greed and profits! Make it so they can not hide from the truth. This should be our mission/goal going forward. PBO deserves to be seen in the truthful light that was never afforded him during this administration. Not only that, but HE HIMSELF, gets to speak out loud and proud when they seek to tarnish his work. I’m right beside him. ALL the way! What say you, TOD? I think that this should /Could be a work in progress for all of us to participate in. Comments?
Just seeing this – and agree 100 percent, desertflower. Once we saw Barack Obama in action (and for me it was in 2007, not to mention those few earlier times he grabbed the national audience), I don’t think there was any turning back for any of us. We cannot rest on our laurels – or his.
He gave us the example from the first day: “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” And look how far he’s brought us.
I’m not ready to throw in the towel and let the RWNJs take it from here. I’m not ready to just sit back eating bonbons within the glow of the past. Like many, I’m hoping beyond hope that TOD will be our platform going forward, because I’d personally like to “be associated” with President Obama’s record – and there’s so much of it right here – and I’m hoping we can continue with the free exchange of (liberal) ideas among this adorable group of folks from across the land and, luckily, from across the world. Chips and Nerdy have been our superstars, and I love them for every day of it.
Believe me, I understand those who are demoralized by the recent election. I have a very close friend who’s barely out from under the covers that she pulled over her head on Nov. 9, so sad that she’s just planning to survive until doom hits. She’s always been a fighter, and she’ll make it back out into the sunlight, but it’s heartbreaking to watch.

They worshiped the man and treated him as something of a “messiah” during the campaign, but spent two solid years treating him as a “disappointment” because he turned out to NOT be a “messiah,” but just a really good politician. They started whining about him even before he took the oath. I mean, for chrissakes, people, they whined about his choice for the preacher who would give the invocation. They really complained about the choice of Timothy Geithner for Treasury Secretary and they still do, even though he’s been gone for more than four years and nothing bad happened while he was there.
************************
They tend to be white, college-educated and comparatively well off. And they are enormusly arrogant.
This was Thom Hartmann. From the very start of candidate/president-elect/president Obama was a disappointment and all I heard was BS this and BS that, don’t vote 2010 and teach PBO a lesson (Hartmann & Shultz both ex-Republicans turned DEM or Independent). I stopped listening to both since 2011. I guess they will have lots of listeners calling and complaining about how awful the GOP is but never wishing for the good ole days of PBO.
I so agree. They all live in other land. Looking at the perfect rather than what will work for everyone. I realize that is why I am an Obamacrat. I look at what is going to work and be the best for everyone and long term. Obama has really taught us that.
So true mtmarilyn. I am sad to say that some of our generation, the baby boomers have screwed themselves, their kids, and grandkids ever since they voted for Reagan for lower taxes and helped destroy the middle class. Their continue voting for GOP and now DT is the ultimate betrayal which none of them will claim they voted for once the $hit hits the fan. This lady once asked me why my generation’s kids were so awful (she was born in the 1930’s) I told her these are HER kids children, her grand children. She only has to look to her daughters to see WHAT she did to raise this generation. I told her I am sure that her grandmother thought her generation was too wild and so different from her generation.
This is funny. President Obama is not this country's daddy. He asked folks not to turn the keys over they did. He has BEEN THE ONE FIGHTING! https://t.co/KJnMYAHnL4
Flag etiquette rules require the flag to be burned if it even touches the ground. My Mom used to teach and judge drum and bugle corps. The Donald was in a photo since the election where he was wrapped in a flag. He broke all kinds of rules there. He who complains should know of what they speak! Of course we all know The Donald is above all rules. He makes them up. I greatly fear his actual presidency as he thinks like Nixon did that the President is above all laws.
There is a white guy who lives at the end of my TH row whose lived here about 2 or 3yrs. He planted a flag in the ground now it’s just laying in the dirt. I had an American flag on my porch for Flag day hanging from my light post and one day I came home and the stick was broken in half on the ground. I just put it back in my hall way closet. There was no wind that brought it down it was done by someone in the complex.
I get solace from the fact that Hillary won the popular vote, this keeps me going. These next four years are going to be tough but we will endure because we are willing to fight.
“This place is huge, and I don’t even know where to pray. I wanted to pray in the open, but I was kind of scared with everything going on in the media. I’m a Muslim, it’s not what the media portrays me to be. If people look at me, a Muslim praying, I don’t know what they’re going to think, what’s going to happen. But, I don’t blame them. It’s the media that put that picture in their heads to they’re just going to have it and it, it’s going to make them feel uncomfortable. I was kind of scared right now. But I just did it. I relied on God. I went over to the corner and just prayed.”
Video footage of Artan’s spring graduation from the community college, where he earned an associate of arts degree, shows a jovial student bounding across stage to receive his degree. Neighbors and the owner of the home where Artan lived with his mother and siblings described the teen as friendly, quiet and respectful. Artan had told one woman he went to the mosque daily.
Law enforcement officials have yet to say if the attack Monday morning, which sent 11 people to hospitals and left Artan dead, was related to terrorism, but added they weren’t ruling it out.
That didn’t stop some Ohio political leaders from stepping into what the Columbus Dispatch characterized as “rhetorical land mines.”
After Artan was identified as a Muslim and Somali refugee who spent a short time in Pakistan, State Treasurer Josh Mandel, who is expected to run for the U.S. Senate in 2018, tweeted: “Looks like Radical Islamic terror came to my alma mater today. So sad what happened at OSU. We must remain vigilant against Radical Islam.”
Michael Premo, chief of staff for the Ohio Senate Democrats, quoted Mandel’s tweet and criticized his language: “Looks like knee-jerk islamophobia came to my state today. So sad what @JoshMandelOhio said. We must remain vigilant against prejudice.”
niceeeeeeeee…this was my wish to see the WH during the holidays while the President and the First Lady were in office…sigh..will live my fantasy thru Judith when she goes there…
WHAT TO DO ABOUT TRUMP? THE SAME THING MY GRANDFATHER DID IN 1930S VIENNA
By Liel Leibovitz
The first, and most obvious, is this: Treat every poisoned word as a promise. When a bigoted blusterer tells you he intends to force members of a religious minority to register with the authorities—much like those friends and family of Siegfried’s who stayed behind were forced to do before their horizon grew darker—believe him. Don’t try to be clever. Don’t lean on political intricacies or legislative minutia or historical precedents for comfort. Don’t write it off as propaganda, or explain it away as just an empty proclamation meant simply to pave the path to power. Take the haters at their word, and assume the worst is imminent.
******************
Which leads me to the third principle, the one hardest to grasp: Refuse to accept what’s going on as the new normal. Not now, not ever. In the months and years to come, decisions will be made that may strike you as perfectly sound, appointments announced that are inspired, and policies enacted you may even like. Friends and pundits will reach out to you and, invoking nuance, urge you to admit that there’s really nothing to fear, that things are more complex, that nothing is ever black or white.
Signing on: It’s the middle of this Tuesday day and I have had thoughts of Chips Chica and DannyO on my mind all night and, so far, all morning; I don’t know why. Therefore, I’m going to leave this here…
Hello TOD on a Tuesday Near Mid-Day from my neck of the woods.
Josh “The Voice” Earnest is at the Podium, LIVE and 1/2 in to the Press Briefings.
Congrats, Vetivera on your Gold ⭐
Thanks to NW, TOD Continues to Rock.

Thanks for sharing this great piece. I actually ventured into the comment section where most of the posters expressed deep admiration for President Obama’s service and character. It was like our fan club here 😍(with the exception of a random fool sprinkled in between). It truly warmed my heart on one hand, while making me weep for missed opportunities on the other. For example, one poster said something like–had he been exposed to these types of articles, he would have had a more positive impression of POTUS and he will now view him positively in the future. Really, with less than 2 months to spare?!?! That comment exacerbated my frustration for those who’ve slept on the great 44 at the country’s expense.
I had not seen that beautiful portrait of the Obama family that was taken during the Canadian State Dinner until it was shown in this video. I wonder if it will be on this year’s Christmas card; I want one.
I am wondering if I should SELL now because once the GOP takes over all property will take a nose dive. Don’t Buy until June next year. That’s how long it will take to see prices start going down. In 1991 when I bought GHWB was in office and 1992 he started the first Iraq war and property quickly took a nose dive for six years. If DT takes office expect a war by March or June 2017.
I #StandWithNancy bc she provides the quality of leadership we need to stop the combination of Trump/Ryan from taking our country backward. pic.twitter.com/Mp1NoB5MaH
Checked Expedia, rooms still available at 490 properties in D.C., we couldn't get a room for Obama's inauguration in '08 at this pt in time. https://t.co/mp5J0ZmU6d
They’re gonna try and the MSM will try to help them. I saw some are giving credit to DT for the stock market recent increase. I hate these people. Randi was talking about the liberals who started the “fake news” websites. They said he only did it to RW’ers and made $10K a day every time these rubs clicked on the “fake news”. They said that they did not try it on liberal or progressives only RW’ers are so gullable.
Special thanks to JER for all of the wonderful posts that live up to the title of the blog. Love and gratitude to NW for keeping the village open.
Take care TOD ohana.
If you must burn a flag to express your outrage at Trump, choose this one. Setting the stars and stripes aflame will only help him. pic.twitter.com/joJflqRy42
Evening TOD folks! I am going miss him soooo much!

This situation should be one of the highest priorities to be “fixed,” instead of “fixing” Obamacare and Medicare.
how much of this is related to not getting prenatal care…nutrition and living standards in general
I’m sure those and other factors are related.

vote tally so far…
Trump 28%
Pres Obama 26%
Putin 22%
First Lady 19%
Sanders 18%
there were others…
take a look….
in the tweet above…altho the President is currently running 2nd….his pic is not featured in TIME’s tweet….i told them about that too
The votes are being freeped by the Putin/Assange/Trump trolls. Otherwise, Trump would not be anywhere near 1st place.
sigh…should have realized it…

This young man appears to have had security issues when he began OSU and what he read and heard on the media affected him severely.

There are thousands like this young man who was so frightened by the likes of the MSM whipping up this frenzy of islamophobia and hatred.
Good Morning Everybody.

There is more. Read it all here: http://www.tabletmag.com/jewish-news-and-politics/217831/what-to-do-about-trump
So mike pence made going to Broadway great again?
If anyone believes this, then I really have something to whisper in their ear. ROFLMAO!!!!!
Signing on: It’s the middle of this Tuesday day and I have had thoughts of Chips Chica and DannyO on my mind all night and, so far, all morning; I don’t know why. Therefore, I’m going to leave this here…
Hi CC! Hi, master DannyO!
Good afternoon, TODobots & friends!

These stories are always so encouraging. Thanks foxfiretx 🙂
very important stories we rarely hear about
Thanks for sharing this great piece.
Ooooh! I love FLOTUS’ dress!
me tooo…looks like she cut her hair..
Beautiful
Thanks JER 🙂
Love our FLOTUS.
Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeee….ty JER
I had not seen that beautiful portrait of the Obama family that was taken during the Canadian State Dinner until it was shown in this video. I wonder if it will be on this year’s Christmas card; I want one.
Haha, reading my mind ! Hope it is on the last card. Sigh !
Thanks Obama!
Yes! Thanks PBO 🙂
Good day TOD!
I like Tom’s suggestion:
The Democratic base = WWC = Working Women of Color
Circling around Nancy…as they should…
She never gave up on supporting President Obama – and I stand with her, too!
That’s what I’m thinking … not much of a crowd expected! What a difference between this and the joys of ’08 and ’12!!
This is the kind of info that we need to cement for PBO going forward. The cretins will NOT rewrite history!!
Totally agree. And good evening, df!
evening, j’ob 🙂
Guess I should have made that “good afternoon/evening” !!!
This was the tree welcomed by First Lady Michelle Obama and her nephews.
Special thanks to JER for all of the wonderful posts that live up to the title of the blog. Love and gratitude to NW for keeping the village open.
Take care TOD ohana.
Are you leaving CEB?!?!? Noooo….
I so agree CEB. The videos that JER has shared have been outstanding. So good for the soul.
This surely warms the heart! 🙂
Unprecedented ….
Good advice …
Yes, it is this bad and it will only get so much worse that no one will ever see America as a bastion of free speech …..
New post.
