Yup, he mentioned a few months back that he calls her to give her a pep talk when she was going through a rough patch. I am confident he will help her through her presidency as well, to the extent she wants it. But he will try to stay out of her way. He’s also commented how much he appreciated that W stayed out of sight and didn’t criticize him particularly through the financial crisis.

Of course, Mark Knoller again tonight is on his roll of POTUS using the official seal, particularly when it was on the podium for Hillary’s speech. It made me wonder, given that he didn’t use it at first, if this is POTUS with NFLTG and sticking it in Trump’s face after all the attempts to delegitimize President Obama. Frankly, if Hillary was running against a normal GOP opponent, I suspect he may not be using the seal at these events. Dunno, just a thought.

    • November 7, 2016 at 11:32 pm

Oh yes, that was NFLTG Shade…

    • 16 jacquelineoboomer
      November 7, 2016 at 11:32 pm

I think it’s traditional that he use the seal each time he speaks in public … I’ve seen them attach it to numerous podiums. (Podia? But I digress.) Not sure, but I like your idea about sticking it in Trump’s face better!

      • November 7, 2016 at 11:35 pm

That is what I think too, 99ts. When as President and is running for another term he does not use it, but as President speaking for another he can get away with it. Because it is the first time, at least in a very long time, if not forever that a sitting President is campaigning for his party. In the past recent years the candidate has not wanted their party President to campaign for them.

You have me thinking – and I cannot remember the last time an outgoing President was a major campaigner for his party – other than for himself (won’t be able to use the he/him to describe all Presidents after tomorrow).
Seems Truman & Eisenhower didn’t get along, Not Eisenhower, not Johnson, Not Reagan, not Clinton, not Bush II. I have little knowledge of Presidents prior to FDR so you will have to help me out.

Did anyone catch what Hillary said on her campaign plane tonight? I saw something running by somewhere that she just wants to put the FBI thing behind her and do what’s best for the country, But it just flashed and I didn’t see the exact wording. That sounds a whole lot like PBO’s words.

  6. November 7, 2016 at 11:18 pm

I had a bit of a sad today. I had planned to get up early and drive about an hour to see President Obama speak. I had only seen him once before in the 2008 campaign when he came to Detroit on Labor Day and spoke for a few minutes. Every other time he’s come I’ve either been working or it’s been in a closed venue such as a factory. I got up early but one thing and another delayed me, but I finally got under weigh. I hadn’t got far when I got a phone call from a friend. She had been admitted yesterday with blood clots on her lungs. I had planned to go visit her this afternoon. She was panicked because she was worried they were moving her out of ICU and she wasn’t ready. She was also having a panic attack because a neighbor who constantly harasses her at her house works for the hospital and Peggy thought she heard this woman talking to the other nurses. So I turned my car around and said goodbye to my last chance of seeing our dear president. However I was happy to go help Peggy. She doesn’t really have any family who can help and her son (in his late 30’s) has many issues-seizure disorder, diabetes, schizophrenia to name a few. He live with her and she was also worried about him. When I got there I was able to listen and she calmed down. She hadn’t voted yet so I was able to pick up an application for an emergency absentee ballot, take the ballot to her ad then turn it in. Her son was also eager to vote and I promised to get him to the polls tomorrow. I didn’t get to see the president and wasn’t able to canvas in the afternoon as I had planned, but at least I helped get those two votes for the Democrats! If you have prayers or well wishes to spare, Peggy could really use them. While in the hospital they also discovered a mass in her breast and she will have a mammogram tomorrow. She is such a good and decent person and her life has been one long struggle.

Oh maryl1, I can feel your disappointment at missing PBO! I’ve never seen him in person either. If I had gotten that call from a friend, I would have done the same, been happy at helping my friend, known it was the right decision, yet still had wistful regrets.

If PBO were aware of your situation, you KNOW he would have told you, “Go on now, go help your friend! I’m not going anywhere. I’m just going to be making a difference as a citizen, instead of as a president. In my speech today, I would have told you to vote and to help folks around you vote too. That’s exactly what you did!”

You WILL meet PBO one day! And you can tell him about what you did today, and it will be ten times as awesome as going to the rally!

I helped a friend vote recently who just celebrated one year since having a lumpectomy and staying cancer-free since!

Your friend is in my prayers. I hope that mass turns out to be benign, but, if not, I will pray for her to be like tha many women I know who are surviving and thriving after recovering from a scary diagnoisis.

      💗💗💗

With the difference, of course, that Hitler was not elected but appointed by then president Hindenburg. Constitutionally, the president was elected directly by the people but the chancellor was appointed by the president. Hitler was merely chancellor (who however cleverly deconstructed the system in his favour in the months to follow) but to be fair, around January 30th Hitler and his looneys were pressuring Hindenburg into announcing him because Hitler had noticed that 1/3 of the vote from the German population was not enough to propell him into a legitimate position to claim the chancellory or the presidency. In fact, on January 30, the Nazi pary was already in decline. Things would have been different had we had a president back then who had not fundamentally opposed the democratic system established in 1919.
      [/history teacher smartassing 🙂 ]

However, I do get your point

Thanks for the history lesson niliathiel! I just casually told a friend yesterday in reference to DT, “Hitler was elected, you know” !!! I don’t know why I had come to think that. I surely knew the history at one time. I think I had that false notion in my head from reading other people’s commentary on would-be dictators – probably during the Dick Cheney years 🙂 Cheney could represent a highlight of the similarities to this election in that we will know who stood on the side of decency and who would easily hand over our democracy to a would-be dictator. The Bush family, (most, anyway) refused to support DT. Cheney had no problem saying he would vote for him.

Thank you for stopping me from repeating a historical innacuracy niliathiel!

Don´t worry at all 🙂 It´s something people outside Germany often don´t know and I don´t blame them. It´s a detail of constitutional history and i wouldn´t expect everyone to know the intricacies of the 1919 German constitution 🙂

My cousin just sent me ahead’s up about this.

A group called “The Sitting Project” is organizing Meditation Flash Mobs at polling stations around the country. The idea is to elevate the vote, the collective consciousness and heal the electorate after this divisive election. The mass meditation will be at 6pm eastern, 3pm pacific time. You can organize or find one at a nearby polling place, or meditate/pray from home.

Good morning 99 :). Yep I couldn’t wait any longer.. hopeful the sooner I voted the sooner it would be over, guess I’ll have to wait for everyone else in the country to get it done 😉

I had to throw away my first ballot as I voted for one more judge than actually existed.. oops. Lots of folks there bright and early, short line, but busy enough for our little precinct. Poll workers said it had been steady since opening, yay! May or may not be good, as this is South Baltimore which unfortunately has it’s share of actual Natzi’s.. yep I have seen them. Only dark moment, was the man standing next to me, who stated: This is the most corrupt election since 18?? (didn’t catch the last two digits) and the woman he was talking to agreed with him. Knew they had to be Trumpsters.

On a happier note, as I was walking out, a woman was walking in all dressed in white, told her she looked marvelous :). Found myself tearing up as I got in my car, surprised myself.

It’s gonna be an amazing day in America.

Awful. Made me think of amk and wonder about him once again. I know that he doesn’t live in Delhi, but still. Very bad.

NEW DELHI — For days, many in Delhi have been living as if under siege, trying to keep the dirty air away from their children and older parents.

But it is not easy: Open a window or a door, and the haze enters the room within seconds. Outside, the sky is white, the sun a white circle so pale that you can barely make it out. The smog is acrid, eye-stinging and throat-burning, and so thick that it is being blamed for a 70-vehicle pileup north of the city.

If in past years Delhi’s roughly 20 million residents shrugged off wintertime pollution as fog, over the past week they viewed it as a crisis. Schools have been ordered closed for three days — an unprecedented measure, but not a reassuring one because experts say the concentration of pollutants inside Indian homes is typically not much lower than outside.

Levels of the most dangerous particles, called PM 2.5, reached 700 micrograms per cubic meter on Monday, and over the weekend they soared in some places to 1,000, or more than 16 times the limit India’s government considers safe. The damage from sustained exposure to such high concentrations of PM 2.5 is equivalent to smoking more than two packs of cigarettes a day, experts say.

Dear God – Please protect the innocent people who are trying to cast a vote today. Let the haters stumble off curbs and have to be carried away, bruised and bloody. Not harmed real bad, just bruised and bloody. We’re taking back America, on behalf of our grandmothers and grandfathers. #democraticbloodline

Or, to borrow from an Irish “blessing”:

May those who love us, love us, and those who don’t, may God turn their hearts, and if He doesn’t turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles so we’ll know them by their limping.

Hope to get back to TOD to read all the info you are posting. Fingers crossed and saying prayers for so many races across the country.

My friend’s white daughter (who voted twice for President Obama) is meeting up with her bi-racial daughter (first year she’s old enough to vote) and her Hispanic friend to head for their polling place and vote for Hillary. Yeehaw! I’m getting a little nostalgic today, thinking that these kinds of gatherings are being celebrated across the country.

I shall dedicate a Hillary win to my maternal grandmother, born before women got the vote, and my mother, born one year after women got the vote, and continue to cherish my #democraticbloodline !!!!
