    there are so many stories coming out about the homegrown demagogue that I keep telling myself ; sure I have read/heard that one already.

    but when I then stop and so more that casual gazing I note that the details and focus are new and that this is yet another disqualifying scandal;

    I don’t know why a person who has so much criminal and socially unacceptable garbage could even consider starting a political carrier by running as potential POTUS.

    what will happen to him when it is all said and done … for his future, I see bankruptcy and long periods in the courts

      GE GCL.

      See DF’s post upthread of the illuminating tweet by Shaun King (despite the fact that I don’t trust Shaun King in the least, he has many of the same grifter qualities as DJT, he’s not maniacally insane and DJT is).

      Don’t hold your breath for Comey’s FBI to rightfully pursue DJT.

        it may be the opposite.

        I think we need to stay tuned on this, Friday could have been just part of a long set up…. now most gop is on record defending the fbi as “doing their jo”.

        if there is the strong evidence of DJT’s crimes, then it may be easier charge him than would have been otherwise;

        anyway, I will just wait and see it all play out

          November 1, 2016 at 12:33 am

          Agree that DJT will be prosecuted, and publicly humiliated post-election, but by Loretta Lynch’s DOJ, not by Comey’s FBI.

          He will suffer the fate of Leona Helmsly and will have a long, unhappy time reaping the consequences of his hubris, greed and fraud — which is only fitting because he suffers no consequences for his lying and bullying. Can’t wait.

    when I read this about a presidential candidate: “he was compromised while on a visit to russia”,

    then I remember all those spy novels I have read & films I have seen;

    … and following his earlier tendency to falsely accuse others of things he has done or said (e.g. Ms. Machado);

    .. and remembering how most of the foreign service and intelligence people who have been very adamant & vocal about not electing him;

    …. then I wonder where we are headed;

    I hope it is not because I have a very active imagination

    Maybe we should bow our heads and take a moment, not to make light of where we’re at … one week away.

    ***

    Now we lay us down to rest
    We pray dear Lord we’ll do what’s best
    Vote in Hillary in a landslide win
    And kick old Trump in the proverbial shin.

    Amen.

      GM JO’B.

      Nice lighthearted, but heartfelt, bedtime prayer.

      But DJT needs more than a kick in the shin.

      He’s getting worse by the day — I don’t tune into his speeches, but @CBSradionews plays different snippets from his speeches every hour, so I hear the soundbites they choose to air — and every single thing he condemns “crooked Hillary” for are things he *is* actually guilty of.

      He’ll have to pay the piper after the election, and it won’t be pretty — one soundbite I heard today from him went something like this: “If Hillary is elected, there will be protracted trials for a sitting president… nothing will get done… government will grind to a halt…”

      DJT is basically predicting his own post-campaign future now.

        Signing off now – sweet dreams to you! (And, of course, I agree with your every word about DJT. Ugh. He said if he lost he could always go to his golf course in Scotland – begone, Trump!)

    GE/GM TODville.

    From Meta’s timeline, 5 1/2 minute video of PBO with Samatha Bee.

    Must say, makeup and lighting artists are to be commended in making PBO look even handsomer than ever! IMO, no one could possibly look better in a gorgeous charcoal gray suit and lavender tie than PBO — and the conclusion truly is a horror (scary scenarios offered by PBO and Sam Bee, in keeping with the Halloween theme):

    GM, TOD ohana,
    Hope no one has a candy hangover. One of the mean, but funny bits that Jimmy Kimmel does each year is have parents tell their kids that they ate all of their Halloween candy and tape the children’s reaction. I will look for it tonight.
    After seeing everything that has been going on in this country since 2007, I now believe many of the views that I had scoffed at as conspiracy theories. Any faith that I had in any of our pillar institutions is now lost and I am especially aggrieved by what has happened to Journalism. However, I prefer the truth to any pretty lies because we have to know just how bad a situation is before we can figure out how to improve things. We have all the elements that we need to make this country work for everyone. We need leaders who can provide a focus and to harness the energy, the talent, and the determination that we have to finish the work of our democracy.
    On a personal note, I am very happy today because it is my mother’s 87th birthday. We are particularly blessed because she has all of her faculties, which includes a sharp mind, gets around without aid, still drives short distances, handles all of her business, still makes plans, and is still very much our mother (I gave up explaining to her that I am a grown-ass woman, highly educated and capable person who could have grandchildren of her own). She is the ultimate Southern mama; the iron fist in a velvet glove (never raised her voice), mind like a steel trap (can still do math in her head and recite long lines of poetry); loves God, but allows her children to find their own way to Him; small acts of kindness quietly done; seldom leaves the house without make-up; a lady in the best sense of the word, but very down to earth. She was our first teacher (and a strict one) with the result that 4 of the 6 children chose to go the extra mile to earn various college degrees. She was there for everything from kindergarten graduations to college honors.
    We will be gathering later today for a special birthday luncheon at my younger sister’s home. I always see my mother’s birthdays as a gift to us. When I start to get anxious about politics, injustice, and other problems in our country, I remember that when you have hearth and home, you are blessed indeed and have everything to be happy and hopeful.

      What a beautiful tribute. You really brought your mother to life. You all are very fortunate, and so is she. Have a wonderful, blessed day CEB. This reminds me of the passage from Proverbs : “her children will rise up and call her blessed.”

      Good afternoon, CEB! Please pass on my very BEST Happy Birthday wishes and Blessings to your wonderful Mom! Seems she and my 84yr old Mom are cut from the same cloth; and you and I are having the same conversations and reactions! I just count it as a Blessing that she is still here to “bug” me. Most of my friends no longer have there Mom’s; many loosing them at a young age. My Mom extends herself to my friends; as a result, when I was living all over the world, I knew my Mom was being looked out. As I’m under the weather, my Mom is in 7th Heaven because she gets to “care” for me…

    Terrifying thought

    http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/10/the-gops-age-of-authoritarianism-has-only-just-begun.html

    Approaching the 2016 election from this historical perspective, in which Trump’s every boast, tweet, and threat disappears into the ether, may at first blush sound like a relief. It is the opposite. Trump is an extreme event, but Trumpism is no fluke. Its weaknesses are fleeting, and its strengths likely to endure. Far from an organization that is “probably headed toward a civil war” — as the Washington Post recently put it, summing up a rapidly congealing consensus — the Republican Party is instead more unified than one might imagine, as well as more dangerous. The accommodations its leaders have made to their erratic and delirious nominee underscore a capacity to go further and lower to maintain their grip on power than anybody understood. More consequentially, the horrors Trump has unleashed are the product of tectonic forces in American politics. Trump has revealed the convergence of two movements more extreme than anything in the free world that may yet threaten the democratic character most Americans take as their birthright.

      From the very beginning, however, the conservatives faced a predicament: Their belief that government is evil irrespective of whether its programs function as intended only had traction with a minority of voters. Americans may have opposed big government as an abstract notion, but they did not want to do away with their Social Security, Medicare, farm subsidies, minimum-wage laws, and progressive taxation. This misalignment between the conservative movement and the American people has, in fact, bred among conservatives a fundamental distrust of the American people. The welfare state, in the eyes of conservatives, was merely a government-sponsored mechanism by which the masses of voters could steal from the minority. (Russell Kirk, the influential mid-20th-century conservative, lamented that “taxation of the prosperous for the benefit of the less wealthy, through the votes of the benefiting crowd,” was “first cousin to theft.”) Since conservatives define liberty as the preservation of property rights, democracy — and its potential for legalizing theft via redistribution — poses a constant threat.

        A MUST READ. If ever you knew anyone that was “undecided” at this last date….or think both candidates are “the same”….they need to read this. The stuff of nightmares.
