          GE maryl1.

I read the brief article, which seems like just another delusional example of DJT’s family #JustMakingStuffUp.

I know I’m excessively cranky about this campaign season, but who the heck cares what Lara Trump, who apparently married into this awful family, has to say?

Lara Trump is just as stupid as the rest of the Trump family (honestly, has ANY of them made an intelligent statement this year) — she believes the MSM when they say HRC’s e-mail investigation has been re-opened.

If you’re interested, here’s a reasonable assessment of why Comey sent the letter to Congress — and why partisans from both the right and left are upset at him.

          From the linked article:
Comey is not “‘reopening’ a closed matter investigation because of some bombshell. It is that he is amending his public testimony to Congress that the FBI was done while the bureau examines new material that may or may not have implications for investigative conclusions previously reached.”

As @DavidPlouffe said today, this is a nothingburger, but is being hyped beyond belief by “horserace”-obsessed news media:

            October 29, 2016 at 3:35 am

The fuller explanations by other parties offers clarification. The press’s obsession with the manufactured scandal of the emails is ridiculous. If they are questioning Clinton about intergrity and disclosure, what about the pursuing the Trump tax returns? That non disclosure is many time worse. LOL!!!!

            • October 29, 2016 at 9:31 pm

Thanks, arapaho, It was just a bizarre statement. Sometime many in the media behave like some of my Facebook friends: they read the clickbait headines and then repost without bothering to read the actual article.

          • October 31, 2016 at 11:27 am

I agree. The media make a big thing out of everything positive for Trump and downplay everything positive for Clinton whie ‘upplaying’ every bad thing. It’s very shortsighted of them because under a Trump presidency the freedom of the press would be the first thing attacked. And then they would be wailing about how terrible Trump is after having done everything they can to elect him.

I don’t know all the ins and outs about Comey, but I do know he has just painted a huge bull’s eye on his back for both PBO and HRC. Frankly, I hope they both make his life miserable. If the above is true, that Trump’s daughter-in-law forced Comey’s hand, Come should be dismissed for cause. PBO will not take this lightly.

    • 18 arapaho415
      October 28, 2016 at 10:44 pm

      GE Carolyn.

I posted a couple of tweets just above that reasonably explain what’s going on.

The FBI is independent from the Executive branch, and IMHO Comey has acted independently and has done what he believes to be his duty. PBO’s instinct is to view the entire picture before rushing to judgment, which is what I think the bloodthirsty MSM has done today.

I don’t believe a single word that comes from anyone related to DJT. They are all vile, reprehensible creatures who will say anything, make anything up, because they have never suffered any consequence for lying or bullying.

I think that will change after Nov 8 when DJT’s misdeeds will catch up with him.

PBO cannot dismiss Comey now especially as he has been campaigning for Clinton. That would give even more wings to the story.

I really want to investigate what’s going on downballot, but my twitter timeline keeps getting clogged up with HRC email crap.

Haven’t investigated, but think the gray states on this map aren’t electing a Senator this year. Which means we need to tip at least one of the Lean R states (MO, NV, NC) to Dem, and make sure that the Lean D states (IL, NH, PA) elect a Dem as Senator on Nov 8.

Hoping to have time to do more research this weekend.

PBO has a busy week scheduled for next week.

Not sure what else he’s doing a week from today, but next Friday:

    Here’s his schedule for Mon-Thurs:

    • October 29, 2016 at 8:37 am

I found the information here helpful from Newsweek reporter Kurt Eichenwald. He says it’s all a nothing burger, it’s Huma Abedin who is being scrutinized for handling possible classified info. But Comey sure did make a mess.

    • 58 arapaho415
      October 29, 2016 at 9:00 am

      GM BillR.

      Exactly right.

The FBI is investigating Anthony Weiner’s *device* (does that sound like a naughty statement?) and located Huma’s emails. But because Huma’s online life is embroiled in FBI investigations of BOTH her boss and her (estranged) husband, she is a link between these 2 unrelated investigations.

But the damage is done because the MSM (both broadcast and online [e.g., Facebook, Windows 10 {more on this later}], etc.) cannot let this go and will continue to headline up through Nov 7 (I think they stop their attacks against candidates on election day).

IF none of these emails were authored by or sent to Clinton, that absolutely should have been made clear in the initial release. This cannot be “fixed”. DT and the media will hammer this for the next 10 days. Possibly the most irresponsible conduct we’ve witnessed by a high level government official in the course of an election (tied with his “news conference”). FYI, the article has just been updated.

I hope most of us can calm down after a good night’s sleep. When people are anxious, we may imagine the worst or say & take actions that seem uncharacteristic in hindsight. Much as many may demand it, PBO is not going to ask Comey to resign. Can you imagine the turmoil that would cause if he did. I don’t even know if they can talk about it without others

    • 71 globalcitizenlinda
      October 29, 2016 at 1:12 am

      without others screaming political interference;

there is a reason the FBI Director’s term is structured the way it is.

I will once again say that we need to focus on :

      – exposing the house republicans who pushed the false narrative to begin with & demanding that they be investigated;

      – the media’s role in pushing a fake HRC scandal without stopping to double-check what the information they were being fed means

      – organizing and doing our best to GOTV to see that the Dems have a resounding victory;

I am just staggered by the amount of outright lies, innuendos, and smears about and of HRC in recent years perpetrated by HRC’;s opponents willingly aided by large swathes of the press. HRC has made mistakes, but I didn’t think it justified the vitriol generated. This just amounts to constant and severe harassment of HRC. I have come to admire this good, and strong lady, and believe she will be a great US president too.

Which brings me back to PBO’s administration, and it’s absence of major incidents and scandals. That is a feat considering the GOP obsession and starvation for a scandal, any scandal. Benghazi and the emails whilst pertaining to PBO’s administration, were really manufactured and focussed on HRC to smear her and damage her bid for that office.

    • 76 COS
      October 29, 2016 at 7:11 am

And one of the questions asked at HRC’s presser concerned her trustworthiness. This is a meme perpetuated by the media and right wing for many, many years. It appalls me each time she is asked that question.

  29. October 29, 2016 at 5:45 am

There is the appearance of collusion/undue influence:
    – trump’s daughter-in-law’s Thursday appearance on Fox bragging that there was a surprise going to drop on Friday.
    – trump’s statement on Friday regarding emails, despite being wrong, lies, and hyperbole, etc…, was the most articulate speech/statement he’s given this whole election cycle.

There was some coordination going on…

      GM LH.

      Just saw this from yesterday.

My biggest frustration is how Comey’s letter to Congress is now dominating MSM and twitter feed.

Completely irresponsible “journalism,” especially by broadcast and internet sources (Facebook, Microsoft Windows 10, etc.).

Looks like Jason Chaffetz (the weasel who doesn’t have the guts to stand up to DJT) got what he wanted: media saturation coverage of his lie (proving that if you’re GOP, all you need to do is plant the seed [issue a lying statement] and you can be sure MSM take the bait and will be off and running with that lie):

      • October 29, 2016 at 10:02 am

I don’t know if the reporting is devolving or this is how confusing the detail being disseminated by the FBI is, but first I heard there were 3 emails; now it seems there may be thousands.

I would like to know since they supposedly don’t know the content of the emails (and won’t have access to it without a court order), *what* specifically are they seeing that makes it “pertinent” to the HRC investigation?

  32. 86 cd4biden
    October 29, 2016 at 8:24 am

    GM Everyone,

Dropping in for a quick hello to you all. Still working daily at our local phone bank keeping you all online. We also have twitterers and texters during some shifts. HRC’s organization is working every angle in this election.

Took a tour of our local Registrar’s office yesterday, as I sit on a county election advisory group. So fascinating how they process all the ballots. Our county here in No. California is now 75% vote by mail, so lots of ballots already returned.

Anyway, I saw that Trump’s accusations of election rigging are pretty impossible here in California, and our Registrar said that goes for most of the US. She knew of no place where the election results are transmitted over the Internet. She said overseas voters received their ballots, etc., by the Internet, but they had to print them out and snail mail or fax them back.

And with all the precautions I saw that are in place in the Registrar’s office it would take a lot of people to be in on the rigging in one County, and even then they would not impact the race for President because of the small number of voters in any county. The problem is that DT keeps the “rigged election” meme going and the MSM does nothing to inform their readers about the facts of how an election system actually works. Arghh.

    Must get ready for the day. Hugs to you all, and many thanks to Nerdy Wonka for keeping us all together. {{{Chips and Danny}}}

  33. October 29, 2016 at 8:35 am

The way I see it, Hillary was clear, she apologize and said she learn her lesson, the so call email scandal ended for me months ago. And the big deal is what.

    • October 29, 2016 at 9:06 am

The email scandal ended for most of us long ago. GOP (and MSM) hope that if they keep the smoke going, the fire will come. There is no kindling (no substance) and the smoke will again fizzle to nothing.

  34. 95 magapie

It’s a tough choice, mishandling e-mail compared to: Build a huge, pointless wall, deport millions of families, deny climate change, encourage nuclear proliferation, treat women as objects, tax cuts for the wealthy, promote ignorance, decimate regulations on corporations and Wall Street, silence the press, appoint cronies, racism, xenophobia, misogyny, reverse access to healthcare, reject science, setback women’s rights, abandon long-time allies, admire dictators, ignore gun violence, rude, mean, crass, disgusting, unscrupulous pathological liar.

  35. October 29, 2016 at 9:13 am

I think the headlines should be, “Comey, Chaffetz, (and any other GOP persons involved) Collude in Attempt to Manipulate Election.”

  36. October 29, 2016 at 9:27 am

The MSM keeps saying, “The confusion Comey has created could impact the presidential race,” and that “…the emails may not have substantive significance but WILL have political significance.”

Is this a case of (standard GOP MO) if we say it enough it will be so?
