The Consequences Of Obama Derangement Syndrome

Brian Beutler: Obama Was Right About Republican Extremism All Along

He has become the Democratic nominee’s most unvarnished and indispensable champion. the president clearly takes extra pleasure campaigning in battleground states against Republicans who didn’t consider Trump an affront to the conscience until the GOP nominee’s poll numbers tanked. Obama is repurposing a critique he’s been making for years, in public and in private, directed at Republican officeholders themselves. His retooled stump speech is crafted not just to fire up Democratic voters against Trump, but to overwhelm other Republican politicians with a sense of dread by making them recognize the huge mistake they made not listening to him. Some of these Republicans are only now realizing that Obama was right all along. But, as he’s now saying, it’s too late. Obama’s taking his argument to the voting public, and Trump is precisely the totem he needs to make it stick.

 [T]here are a lot of politicians who knew better. There are a lot of senators who knew better. But they went along with these stories because they figured, you know what, this will help rile up the base, it will give us an excuse to obstruct what we’re trying to do, we won’t be able to appoint judges, we’ll gum up the works, we’ll create gridlock, it will give us a political advantage. So they just stood by and said nothing. And their base began to actually believe this crazy stuff. So Donald Trump did not start this. Donald Trump didn’t start it. He just did what he always did, which is slap his name on it, take credit for it, and promote it. That’s what he does. And so now when suddenly it’s not working, and people are saying, wow, this guy is kind of out of line, all of a sudden, these Republican politicians who were okay with all this crazy stuff up to a point, suddenly they’re all walking away. “Oh, this is too much.” … Well, what took you so long? What the heck?

    They’re not even waiting for Inauguration night this time. Instead of talking about working together to get things done, they’re already plotting…I guess to make HRC a (less than???) one-term President.

    What’s Chaffetz’s opponent’s chance of winning?

      This is why we must vote out the R’s and have a Democratic landslide. I’d love to see him squashed like a bug.

      I think at present trends it is presumptious of the GOP. LOL. I hope HRC wins by a large enough margin the take the house (and senate) and work overtime for the next two years to enact as much as possible of the democratic party’s aspirations.

      Here’s the maddening thing–and this is no surprise to any of us here–I could put this in front of most, if not all, of my right-wing friends and it would not change their mind. It would not have any impact. As we all know, they just do not “do” facts and truth. That’s a big reason our country is in the mess it is in. Fox, right-wing radio, their leaders have lied to them and used them for so many years. As the Bush administration said, “We create our own reality.” Indeed they do. 😦 😦 😦 😦

        October 26, 2016 at 5:16 pm

        We still need to point it out, tweet it, post it on FB, etc. It will sink into the public consciousness eventually. That’s how RW radio took over any common sense of decency: by repetition.

        It’s difficult, it’s discouraging,and it will take a maddening long time. But nothing will change if we don’t match them with our own relentless parade of truth.

        Good Evening, arapaho415. I just hope that these Trump supporters are taken seriously when they talk about revolutions and “grabbing their muskets”, etc., and that the proper authorities — from the local level to the federal level — are preparing that those words might become reality. It’s worrisome that they even feel free to openly say such things.

    All of a sudden and out if the blue things are trending trumps way? Why? Bc of all the complaining and lobbying he’s doing behind the scenes.
    He’s playing the refs, so to speak…
    Meanwhile, I hate to say it, but Hillary is just trying to run out the clock…
    You know… She’s focusing on down ballot and that has republicans nervous… Then a shift in coverage?
    I don’t buy it..
    Something is going on behind the scenes and its Bc republicans are nervous abd ripping loads of cash to cable channels .

      please keep calm.

      – keep volunteering;

      – keep organizing;

      – keep phone-banking;

      – keep knocking on doors;

      – keep encouraging people in your network to volunteer and to vote early;

      – cast your own ballot => early if you prefer;

      the only thing that matters is how many people show up to the polls and vote or send in their absentee ballots;

    • October 26, 2016 at 7:25 pm

      This is nonsense. Take some deep breaths. Four national polls out today, +14, +9, +9, +6. Clinton maintaining stable leads in swing states.Trump’s +1 poll in FL is countered by three other polls today with leads of +3-to +6. Don’t come here and pedal your anxiety. Get a grip!

      • October 26, 2016 at 8:00 pm

        It seem we’ve learn nothing from 2012. How about forgetting the polls and try to fine one, two,three people who have not voted and take them to the poll. Or fine someone who is not planning to vote and talk to them.

        This is a repeat of four years ago. Romney believed the false polls so much he wasn’t prepared to lose, and had not prepared a concession speech. This is the same old playbook for the Rethugs. Ignore them, and work for the election of HRC and Democrats all down the ballot.

    Listening to a long report on PBS about white nationalism, KKK groups. Focused on a group that has bought land in southern Indiana and many of them are moving there. Report tied in their ‘kind’ and their support for Trump. “This is our country. We were here first. (Really!?). We are going to take it back.” Scary. Ignorant.

    Patrick Murphy and Marco Rubio had a debate today; I could not last more than a minute. Rubio believed those who tried to puff him up as the Second Coming, and like much of his kind, cannot seem to realize that he has nothing that anyone really wants. He is a hollow man who has no convictions and no record of real accomplishments. He is a tool that no longer has a handler. I really hope that Patrick Murphy roundly defeat him so that we can push him over onto the ash heap of political opportunists whose days have come and gone.
    Still no sample ballots delivered to homes after three full days of early voting.
    I canceled appointments and will limit going out to public places 11/9-13 no matter who wins. This is the first time in all of my years of voting (sine 1972) that I have uneasy feeling about possible reactions from those who have felt cheated or emboldened by the results. The peaceful transfer of power, one of the main things that sets our government from others is being threatened. These weak, self-serving, conscious-less rethugs. their handlers (corporate America) and their enablers, the msm, have brought us to this dark moment.

      That is so sad that you feel you must cancel appointments in public places for your peace of mind, for the days just following the election. Scary times that did NOT have to be like this, if people of good conscience had stood up against Trump and his cronies.

        I live in Florida in the part of state that has always been Red, though if every democrat comes out and vote (we now outnumber the republicans as of 10/20/2016 and if a few others cross over, my county could turn blue. But we live in crazy times and even though my area is not a hotbed of racial animosity, the Trump signs tell the story. I am also still haunted by what happened in Charleston. Even though my family and friends are multi-cultural, I live in and worked in diverse settings, and have been educated in arenas when I was often the only or among only a few people of color, and I have not personally experienced outright racism in decades, I am not stupid enough to think that we are anywhere near a post-racial society. Trump has unleashed the barbarians and I do not think that they will quietly leave the gate when/if he is defeated.
