          I do not know how that happened, but glad it worked for you 😉 Thank you for the link – I’ve read a few posts and will be back for more, Awesome! Now I have to go and try to peel carpet off the dining room floor. Perhaps it will encourage meditation. 😛

            October 25, 2016 at 12:55 pm

            😀 Good luck with the carpet removal. I remember when I did that a few years back, and then had to create small bundles so that garbage pickup would remove it for me. O, those days!

            • October 25, 2016 at 1:06 pm

              This is the padding and it has bonded itself to the floor. I can’t scrape or chip it off. I’m trying a heat gun. I hope I don’t burn the house down! On the other hand, that would alleviate the carpet problem. And the furnace problem. And the out-of-control-stuff and many-years-backlog-of-housekeeping problem. Hmmm…

                October 25, 2016 at 1:16 pm

                Forget that ‘hmmm’! 😀 That heat gun idea is scary. Have you tried a scraper or spatula type instrument? If I remember correctly once you un-stick the edges the middle portion of the carpet is usually easier to lift.
                Also, I hear you about the house maintenance problems. I stick with it primarily because I think of it as the only way *I* can save/invest.

                • October 25, 2016 at 2:02 pm

                  I’ve got all the actual carpet up, it’s the rubber padding that is causing the problem. It has bonded to the floor. I tried chipping with a special tool from the hardware store and after about two hour I had sort of cleared about 2 square feet. After a google search, I tried hot water, which produced a sort of slurry which was still hard to chip up and I was worried about damage to the subflooring. The most popular idea was the heat gun. Wish me luck!

                I am referring to the padding (not the carpet). That’s what was underneath mine too – a black rubbery substance. 😦 Yes there were portions that I had to struggle with the scraper to free, but most of it lifted up freely once I’d scraped up the ‘sticky’ portions. Paint scrapers come in different sizes; I used both a big/broad one and a small one.

                • October 25, 2016 at 2:05 pm

                  Sorry I didn’t see this. I thought I would find the ‘free space’ too. The blogs I read said that it’s usually only glued at the edges. However, I think this is not the blue, but the actual rubber which has bonded owing to moisture, heat, and pressure. I need to get it all up because the reason for the carpet replacement was an incontinent (but very much loved dog) and I’m sure the padding was affected too.

    amazing to see that the media, that has not said a single word about ObamaCare during most of this year, is in now going into full-throttle hysteria about the premiums.

    I think this is an area where we need to push back hard against them;

    otherwise we may end up a situation in which they went into mass-hysteria about Ebola, just before the mid-term elections;

    afterwards the media promptly moved away from the same Ebola topic once they had succeeded in helping the gop win multiple races.

    up to now, the media have never apologized for that childish frenzy;

    even after PBO’s skit at the WHCD reminded them that they treated Ebola like the US was an episode of the Walking Dead, they just picked up another topic to create fear among the voting population.

    besides, we all know that after the threats and criticism from the homegrown demagogue, most media are looking for a new story to use to attack SoS during the final days of this campaign.

    I hope I am wrong about all this.

    I’ve been searching for the Jimmy Kimmel link with PBO since I was eager to see it. I couldn’t seem to find the links in a stand alone format yet, but hey, I got to watch them so I’m happy. For anyone else who can’t wait for them to come to YouTube, , here you go. There are 3 vid clips in the article.

    President Obama ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ Video 2016: Watch Full Interview! by Andrew Shuster

    President Obama visited Monday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” for his second and final appearance as Commander-In-Chief. Watch the full interview below!

    Obama and Kimmel had a lot to talk about, some topics serious and some not. Among the things the talk show host wanted to know is if he ever laughs at Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. “Most of the time,” Obama admitted. And, in another dig against the GOP candidate, he pointedly said, “I don’t tweet at 3 a.m. about people who insult me.”

    The president went on to say more seriously, “What we haven’t seen before is somebody questioning the integrity of elections and the will of the people… What we haven’t seen before is a politics based on putting down in very explicit terms, Muslim Americans who are patriots, or describing women on a 1-10 score.” “Regardless of what your political preferences are, there is a certain responsibility and expectation in terms of how you behave, he added.

    Republicans scrambling to salvage control of Congress amid Donald Trump’s downward tailspin have hit on a new message: A GOP-controlled House and Senate are necessary to act as a check on President Hillary Clinton. The message basically argues for divided government as a way to prevent her from going too far, in effect admitting that the presidential race is a goner.

    But Democrats insist that this message will be a non-starter, and they shared new internal polling with this blog that they argue backs up their claim. Dems say they can rebut the Republicans’ line of attack by pointing out that they are openly, explicitly promising more obstruction in Washington, something swing voters and independents despise.

    But House Democratic strategists tell me they’ve tested their own responses to these messages in over two dozen competitive House districts, and they are not persuaded that Republicans will win this argument.

    The Dem firms Garin Hart Yang and Global Strategy Group conducted a poll in mid-September in 30 contested House districts, and here is the key finding:

    If it looks like Hillary Clinton is going to win, would you prefer to elect a Democrat to Congress who will work with Hillary Clinton to help her get things done, or a Republican for Congress who would oppose Hillary Clinton’s programs and try to block her from getting anything done?

    Prefer to elect the Democrat: 50

    Prefer to elect the Republican: 40

    The poll, which was conducted for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, surveyed over 1,000 likely voters in the 30 contested districts. It also found that 66 percent of respondents expect Republicans to try to block Clinton even if it means more gridlock and inaction in Washington, while only 23 percent think they will work constructively with Clinton, meaning they’re prepared to believe GOP control means more obstruction.

    Now, you should always treat internal polling with skepticism. But this provides hints as to how Democrats view the strategic challenge this new Republican argument presents.

    Well, this is a great summation of Trump and is really a bit scary, especially this.
    “The debate could have – and should have – stopped at Mr. Trump’s unwillingness to say he will accept the results of the election. As he rages at rallies and creates conspiracies, he puts not only the democratic process but actual lives at risk. White supremacist and militia groups have been on the rise for eight years, and avenging Mr. Trump’s loss may be their unifying cause.”
