A Man Of Character

14701299_570356889831962_3719933160033615872_n

Pete Souza: One of the things I learned about my boss during the first week of the administration was to not wander too far away. We had gone up to the U.S. Capitol a week after the inauguration to meet with the House and Senate Republican caucuses. I had already started running up the stairs ahead of him before I realized he had taken a slight detour to greet the kitchen staff

Thank you for the fantastic diaries, and a wonderful mid afternoon to check in on TOD from where I live. It’s good to see polls continuing the HRC lead, and hope it can is enough to carry many of the house seats too.

I would be willing to bet real money that the majority of the congress have never spoken to the kitchen or wait staff. It would never occur to these self-important, in it only for themselves creatures to acknowledge them in any way. One of the reasons that the repubs. and many of the dems., especially those who were there in 2009, hate him is that just by being himself he showed how shallow they were. I love all of the photos that show him speaking with, shaking hands and giving fist bumps to janitors, doormen, wait and kitchen staff, and others who are in service related jobs. He sees everyone and treats everyone, even those who have worked against with, with respect.

Oh, NW, what a joyful post and thread to join tonight, topped off with the icing on the cake that is our dear President! Each day he has spent and is spending as President – in my mind – is part of our national treasure. Thanks, sweetie pie!

I voted a week ago. My experience is always like Bill R’s…because we are on PEVL and get our ballots sent to our home…I can take my time, research issues I have a question about, not wait in line…have my coffee, tea whatever….so wonderful. If voting was this easy for everyone…maybe they would do it!

What do you think about AZ desert flower, do you think Hillary could actually win in AZ?

        October 21, 2016 at 10:57 pm

From what I read, she is now leading in AZ…I get emails from my local Dems and others. I see in the newspaper that even that SOB sheriff Arpaio is behind 10 pts from his Dem challenger:) We need to get Ann Kirkpatrick elected and get rid of McCain….all of this would be DELIGHTFUL! In answer to your question…Yes. She. Can.

          October 22, 2016 at 12:33 pm

That is TOTALLY AWESOME. I am hoping so much that John McCain is defeated, so , so much! The other hope is that we win in a landslide and Dems take back the Senate and the House and send Mitch McConnell back into the minority! I only wish Charles Schumer were not going to be Senate Majority leader, especially after his opposition to the Iran deal. Sigh.

I imagine that when PBO makes a point to speak with the kitchen staff, he is thinking of his paternal grandfather…”Hussein Onyango Obama, the president-elect’s paternal grandfather, had served with the British army in Burma during the second world war and later found work back in Kenya as a military cook.”

Early voting shows upsurge of women

In Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida, Democrats see uptick in women taking ballots as reason for optimism.

Regarding my voting today. Trust me, it won’t make any difference here in this right-wing, conservative ‘Christian’, holier than thou, misinformed area! Yet, it WILL give her that one more vote from a woman so from that standpoint, that does matter. I voted straight D though that won’t matter in who wins, but it shows one more vote for the D’s.

The link explains what happened (someone ran a stop sign & hit them). Comments from the senator

“Connie and I and my team are so grateful to the Parma Police, the paramedics and doctors and nurses at Parma Medical Center for their professionalism and quality care,” the statement said. “We appreciate the concern of our friends and neighbors for my staff member and myself and are happy to report we are both doing just fine- thanks in large part to my well-made Jeep Cherokee and government regulations that help keep us all safe on the road by requiring airbags.

“While I wish this could have happened on a test track rather than to us, I can tell you without a doubt that my Jeep Cherokee, made with American steel by union workers in Toledo, made all the difference in allowing us to walk away from this crash, a little stiff, but unharmed.”

Made with American steel by union workers – seems topical 🙂

The performances in the WH have been thrilling. What a rare treat for all of us to savor.

I watched the Hamilton doc last night and was really moved by the part where the cast is at the WH and they’re singing about Washington teaching the country how to say goodbye. At one point Christopher Jackson gestures to PBO and PBO nods his head. That was so incredibly moving because PBO has talked about this aspect of the wisdom of the Founding Fathers.

How utterly terrifying. Hillary was wrong about calling them deplorables. They are MUCH, MUCH worse than that.

    http://www.nationalreview.com/article/441319/donald-trump-alt-right-internet-abuse-never-trump-movement

Trump’s alt-right trolls have subjected me and my family to an unending torrent of abuse that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I distinctly remember the first time I saw a picture of my then-seven-year-old daughter’s face in a gas chamber. It was the evening of September 17, 2015. I had just posted a short item to the Corner calling out notorious Trump ally Ann Coulter for aping the white-nationalist language and rhetoric of the so-called alt-right. Within minutes, the tweets came flooding in. My youngest daughter is African American, adopted from Ethiopia, and in alt-right circles that’s an unforgivable sin. It’s called “race-cucking” or “raising the enemy.” I saw images of my daughter’s face in gas chambers, with a smiling Trump in a Nazi uniform preparing to press a button and kill her. I saw her face photo-shopped into images of slaves. She was called a “niglet” and a “dindu.” The alt-right unleashed on my wife, Nancy, claiming that she had slept with black men while I was deployed to Iraq, and that I loved to watch while she had sex with “black bucks.” People sent her pornographic images of black men having sex with white women, with someone photoshopped to look like me, watching.

Good morning all. Today is one of my two favorite days of every month: The day my church provides a good, hot meal at the Homeless Alliance, for between 300 & 350 people at noon. We also take toiletries, new white socks, and other items of clothing. We have been doing this since the 1990s, and the number has grown as the state has cut back on services. I have only been part of it since last fall, but it has become an integral part of my life, and was a huge factor in my recovery after my husband’s death. We do this every other Saturday, and the organization is incredible. Each of us has a job, and we all pitch in with joy.

Hope you all have as good a Saturday as I’m anticipating. So excited to say Madam President.

Wonderful work that you all do carolyn. I find is extraordinary that state govts expect charities to do the work they should be doing – but that does not retract from all the good you do – imagine the benefit if govt & charity worked together to achieve these goals.
