Pete Souza: One of the things I learned about my boss during the first week of the administration was to not wander too far away. We had gone up to the U.S. Capitol a week after the inauguration to meet with the House and Senate Republican caucuses. I had already started running up the stairs ahead of him before I realized he had taken a slight detour to greet the kitchen staff

He is truly a man of the people!
I loved the ‘We Are Democrats’ ad.
Hello there, Almab! 🙂 How’s life?
Yes, he is that – a man of all the people, around the world! That characteristic of his has taught me a lot.
Thank you for the fantastic diaries, and a wonderful mid afternoon to check in on TOD from where I live. It’s good to see polls continuing the HRC lead, and hope it can is enough to carry many of the house seats too.
The man who talks to paupers and princes – the man for all people in all seasons
I would be willing to bet real money that the majority of the congress have never spoken to the kitchen or wait staff. It would never occur to these self-important, in it only for themselves creatures to acknowledge them in any way. One of the reasons that the repubs. and many of the dems., especially those who were there in 2009, hate him is that just by being himself he showed how shallow they were. I love all of the photos that show him speaking with, shaking hands and giving fist bumps to janitors, doormen, wait and kitchen staff, and others who are in service related jobs. He sees everyone and treats everyone, even those who have worked against with, with respect.
Or how many presidents before him?
Around here, we just call it The Mountain! As in, “the mountain is out”! If I could post photos, I’d share the view from our rooftop garden!
I notice it has some white stuff sprinkled around but the whole does look ‘purty’. 😉
those are glaciers, VC. Mt Rainier is 14,410 ft/4392m, is an active volcano with live hot springs at the summit! Last eruption: 1894. ( we are due) 🙀
They are? Thanks, however I don’t like the ‘we are due’ part tho.
Very very beautiful out here, because of the geologically active, incredibly picturesque land forms!
How nice to have a rooftop garden!!
We will carry on, but, oh, how we will miss this family as our lodestars…
Please tell me TOD will continue…
Is there ANYONE on the TV who takes as long as Rachel to get to the point
99ts, I wonder the same thing. Sometimes I wonder what the hell is she trying to say?
Lol. I often think same.
I voted today! Did this post on Facebook: #nastywomen. This one voted today. Yes she did!👍😄. It’s gotten a lot of ‘likes.’ It was mid afternoon, crowded but moved well. I was in and out in 12-13 minutes.
Good to hear about the voting – may it be the one that makes the difference 🙂 And it will make the total % for Hillary 1 vote better
Way to go Tnmtngirl!
Sometimes I just tune out Bella
Don’t get me started. The answer is NO. Rachel drives me crazy taking forever to get to the freaking point. It is so annoying.
I think she is about to say the goon plagiarized his one and only joke last night (that attacked his wife – not him)
Oh, NW, what a joyful post and thread to join tonight, topped off with the icing on the cake that is our dear President! Each day he has spent and is spending as President – in my mind – is part of our national treasure. Thanks, sweetie pie!
I voted a week ago. My experience is always like Bill R’s…because we are on PEVL and get our ballots sent to our home…I can take my time, research issues I have a question about, not wait in line…have my coffee, tea whatever….so wonderful. If voting was this easy for everyone…maybe they would do it!
What do you think about AZ desert flower, do you think Hillary could actually win in AZ?
From what I read, she is now leading in AZ…I get emails from my local Dems and others. I see in the newspaper that even that SOB sheriff Arpaio is behind 10 pts from his Dem challenger:) We need to get Ann Kirkpatrick elected and get rid of McCain….all of this would be DELIGHTFUL! In answer to your question…Yes. She. Can.
That is TOTALLY AWESOME. I am hoping so much that John McCain is defeated, so , so much! The other hope is that we win in a landslide and Dems take back the Senate and the House and send Mitch McConnell back into the minority! I only wish Charles Schumer were not going to be Senate Majority leader, especially after his opposition to the Iran deal. Sigh.
NORM FOR THE WIN …
A very good read. I expect the real silent majority to speak loud and clear on nov 8th.
Another very powerful ad.
Just…WOW! PBO and HRC fought/fight to give people hope !
I watched this whole thing, breathless, wondering how it would turn out. Superb ad for HRC! Just so happens, my neighbor is a woman with a very similar story. We all have neighbors and friends and family with similar stories. What the rethugs forget is that this could be you.
This is a very powerful ad. I was in tears by the end.
both the lock her up clown pos are themselves about to the face the music. karma.
Good to see Christie getting some media – he should not have tossed the staff under the bus
Loving this documentary on Hamilton…
What are you watching, pf?
there was a documentary on Hamilton PBS…enjoyed it
Thanks. I’ve since seen it mentioned in other places, and I gather it can be found in other places on the internet. I thought maybe it was a special broadcast. As soon as my furnace is fixed, I’m gong to sit down and enjoy it!
they are about to show it again…worth watching
I imagine that when PBO makes a point to speak with the kitchen staff, he is thinking of his paternal grandfather…”Hussein Onyango Obama, the president-elect’s paternal grandfather, had served with the British army in Burma during the second world war and later found work back in Kenya as a military cook.”
I’d forgotten that bit of history, but I love it. Sounds right, because of all we know of what’s in the President’s heart.
Early voting shows upsurge of women
In Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida, Democrats see uptick in women taking ballots as reason for optimism.

Know I maight be wrong – but got to be some married women cancelling out their husband’s vote – why they like to go vote on their own.
Rachel’s at it again
maight?? might
Regarding my voting today. Trust me, it won’t make any difference here in this right-wing, conservative ‘Christian’, holier than thou, misinformed area! Yet, it WILL give her that one more vote from a woman so from that standpoint, that does matter. I voted straight D though that won’t matter in who wins, but it shows one more vote for the D’s.
Thousands of Israeli and Palestinian women have spent two weeks walking for peace.
This is beautiful.
Thank you so much for sharing this! This is wonderful.

What in the world did I miss??? Glad everyone is ok!
Oooh, thank goodness. Sure it’s big new in OH. Maybe some of our OH folks can fill us in.
The link explains what happened (someone ran a stop sign & hit them). Comments from the senator
“Connie and I and my team are so grateful to the Parma Police, the paramedics and doctors and nurses at Parma Medical Center for their professionalism and quality care,” the statement said. “We appreciate the concern of our friends and neighbors for my staff member and myself and are happy to report we are both doing just fine- thanks in large part to my well-made Jeep Cherokee and government regulations that help keep us all safe on the road by requiring airbags.
“While I wish this could have happened on a test track rather than to us, I can tell you without a doubt that my Jeep Cherokee, made with American steel by union workers in Toledo, made all the difference in allowing us to walk away from this crash, a little stiff, but unharmed.”
Made with American steel by union workers – seems topical 🙂
Here’s the original joke that Trump plagiarized last night for the “plagiarism” joke. Has there ever been a presidential campaign that is this incompetent? The irony…….
Has there ever been a candidate that would throw his wife under the bus rather than find something about himself to laugh at?
Exactly my thoughts.
When you think you’re perfect AND are extremely thin skinned, you don’t do self-defecating. You *never* want people laughing at you, even if you initiate the humor.
TRUMP MARRIED A SUBMISSIVE IMMIGRANT WHO WANTED A FREE TICKET TO RIDE!
We were right. They’re all cowards.
What an ad?
ON MY FB………………
This ad is just devastating. I’ve seen it several times now. Can’t watch it without crying….
yess
This is rather fascinating,,,,the interesting think is that it has been there 10 years without folks knowing what it going on in the mural…
My sun set ages ago! Good night, people.
I remember that too. stupid, stupid, stupid.
Good night TOD!
Take care everyone ….
Trump makes a mockery of everything, including what happened at Gettysburg (which he may not know).
I like the image of the sea, better!
Goodnight, Bob, and see y’all tomorrow, TODville.
ICYMI
Our science nerd had guests. (Excuse this, if it was already posted, but I’m just seeing it and thought I’d share. Too cute.)
thank you for sharing this!
My pleasure!
Good morning, lh. That tweet is quite accurate, huh? Good and blessed day to all TODers.
Good morning, good people!! Happy Saturday to NW and TODers. And our dearest {{{{Chips and Danny}}}}. We miss you very much.
I was one of MY favorites, too. I’ll miss those….sad that we are now making note of “lasts” for the Obamas. They have left their footprints on my mind, my heart.
Morning everyone.
The performances in the WH have been thrilling. What a rare treat for all of us to savor.
I watched the Hamilton doc last night and was really moved by the part where the cast is at the WH and they’re singing about Washington teaching the country how to say goodbye. At one point Christopher Jackson gestures to PBO and PBO nods his head. That was so incredibly moving because PBO has talked about this aspect of the wisdom of the Founding Fathers.
I watched that too! I was mesmerized:)
It was great and so inspiring but WAY too much W to stomach.
i saw that documentary as well….it was so pivotal and moving…..i am so grateful to the Manuel for tell this story in the way that it was told….
On the day that White House performance, Lin-Manuel tweeted out that Chris Jackson had tears streaming at one point in the song.
OOoooohhh, yes, now I remember that, too. Thanks for the reminder!
They have left their footprints on my mind and heart…
Soooooo very True…..
Like Ohio Rep Joyce Beatty, FLOTUS seems to be throwing a little bit of shade… 😎
IT WON’T BE LONG AND ALL ELECTRONICS WILL TAKE A HIKE..I GUESS PEOPLE ARE GOIING TO REALLY HAVE TO TALK TO EACH OTHER…..
How utterly terrifying. Hillary was wrong about calling them deplorables. They are MUCH, MUCH worse than that.
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/441319/donald-trump-alt-right-internet-abuse-never-trump-movement
Trump’s alt-right trolls have subjected me and my family to an unending torrent of abuse that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. I distinctly remember the first time I saw a picture of my then-seven-year-old daughter’s face in a gas chamber. It was the evening of September 17, 2015. I had just posted a short item to the Corner calling out notorious Trump ally Ann Coulter for aping the white-nationalist language and rhetoric of the so-called alt-right. Within minutes, the tweets came flooding in. My youngest daughter is African American, adopted from Ethiopia, and in alt-right circles that’s an unforgivable sin. It’s called “race-cucking” or “raising the enemy.” I saw images of my daughter’s face in gas chambers, with a smiling Trump in a Nazi uniform preparing to press a button and kill her. I saw her face photo-shopped into images of slaves. She was called a “niglet” and a “dindu.” The alt-right unleashed on my wife, Nancy, claiming that she had slept with black men while I was deployed to Iraq, and that I loved to watch while she had sex with “black bucks.” People sent her pornographic images of black men having sex with white women, with someone photoshopped to look like me, watching.
Going after other journalists as well…..at their homes, threatening their families. He unleashed this torrent of hate.
these people are real threat to us all ……….. indeed, deplorables is not a term strong enough to describe them
Morning everyone hope you’re all having a blessed day…catching up on chores today then checking to be sure all my relatives have already or are voting..my niece spent the last debate at Hillary HQ no feedback as yet as she is a busy new doctor..Michael Moore has a good interview on the web..good food for thought for Hillary supporters..Happy Saturday all..
Few months ago MM was saying stubby fingers would win because dems nominated Hillary instead of Bernie. Rather late getting on board
Good morning all. Today is one of my two favorite days of every month: The day my church provides a good, hot meal at the Homeless Alliance, for between 300 & 350 people at noon. We also take toiletries, new white socks, and other items of clothing. We have been doing this since the 1990s, and the number has grown as the state has cut back on services. I have only been part of it since last fall, but it has become an integral part of my life, and was a huge factor in my recovery after my husband’s death. We do this every other Saturday, and the organization is incredible. Each of us has a job, and we all pitch in with joy.
Hope you all have as good a Saturday as I’m anticipating. So excited to say Madam President.
Wonderful work that you all do carolyn. I find is extraordinary that state govts expect charities to do the work they should be doing – but that does not retract from all the good you do – imagine the benefit if govt & charity worked together to achieve these goals.
Good morning TOD 🙂
