Bringing this over (as usual I’m posting away on a just-dead thread 🙂 )

    Ciao TOD!

Non vedo l’ora di vedere l’abito della nostra FLOTUS per la cena di Stato stasera!

I can’t wait to see our First Lady’s dress for the State Dinner tonight!!!

Here is an interview with Mario Batali and other chefs on preparations and details for tonight’s State Dinner:

Palazzo Chigi is the Italian version of the White House and this is from their YouTube channel.

Here is the official Italian YouTube of the arrival of Renzi and his wife and also actor Roberto Benigni and Beatrice Vio, the Italian Paralympic champion:

    A couple of interesting tidbits:

The Prime Minister and his wife are referred to as “Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and his wife Agnese Landini” because Italian women do not give up their surnames when they marry. The children take the father’s name, and the family as a whole is referred to by the father’s last name (i.e. the Obama’s, the Obama Family), but the wife keeps her birth name.

Matteo Renzi’s political rivals are drumming up controversy asking “Who is paying for the trip?” Ha ha, sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

So, I had commented yesterday that I guessed PBO was trying to give Renzi a political boost before the big referendum vote on December 4.

Italian papers are already carrying headlines with PBO quotes supporting Renzi re the referendum:

“Obama tifa Renzi: ‘Il Sì al referendum aiuterà l’Italia. Matteo resti in politica'”

Obama supports Renzi: “A ‘yes’ on the referendum will help Italy. Matteo, stay in politics”

This paper has both an Italian and an English language version. Here is the English one. It’s good for perspective on Renzi and Italian politics and the State dinner visit:

I follow Renzi’s current situation with the referendum on RAI http://www.raiplay.it/dirette/rainews24?channel=RaiNews and some of the Italian newspapers, principally La Stampa,

Thanks for this, Bill. I look for Rai news on YouTube, but forgot about the livestream. When I clicked they were covering PBO’s endorsement of Renzi and a yes vote. They went through all the newspaper front pages too and it was interesting to see that, both Il Manifesto and Berlusconi are against the reforms. Like here, the far left and right come together in opposition to Renzi and any attempt at change or compromise to stimulate the Italian economy. And don’t get me started on the M5S!

Always love State Dinner days. The Italian PM’s wife is also a very stylish, chic woman . I looked at Pete Sousa’s album of state dinner pictures….thanks for posting it. My favorite picture is still the one from the French State Dinner where PBO is guiding Michelle down the steps in that beautiful dress, and Hollande is just gazing at her.

We all know that the most desired invitation of world leaders is an invitation to the White House…….especially these past eight years. Total glamor and grace.

gm from my world TOD – can someone tell me if the President’s words on the GOP candidate came from the press conference with the Italian PM? I’m thinking that as usual, the press ignored the visit and the PM and asked questions about the election. If we look at said candidate not doing his homework – he learned all that from the WHPC – I wonder sometimes if they even know where the WH visitors come from.

I watched this press conference. PBO let Trump have it. It was like PBO is daring Trump to come for him
