Romney got 27% of the Hispanic vote in 2012 and that was not even in the toxic environment we see today. I can’t imagine Donald winning more than 10% this year. Which is why I struggle to believe that Nevada is as close as all the polls indicate. That state is 26% Hispanic/Latino but yet every poll has that election within the margin of error. Who exactly are they polling?

    • October 17, 2016 at 11:14 am

Latino Decisions consistently has Clinton up by an even larger margin in the 70s, and Trump lower,12-13%.

      October 17, 2016 at 11:30 am

Historically NV is NOT as close as the polls show because of the transient nature of its population and under polling of the Latino vote. I don’t recall the difference in 2012 from the polls versus the final result but it was significant.

You’re right FoxFire. I just looked it up. The final RCP average for NV going into election day in 2012 was 2.8 pts but PBO actually won the state by 6.7 pts. This gives me relief. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/nv/nevada_romney_vs_obama-1908.html

Donna, recall also that when Harry Reid was re-elected not a single public poll had him with a lead but he actually won it by 6 points if I remember correctly:-) His organization in that state remains in place. I would be very surprised if Hillary did not win it by at least 6 points as well.

Talked on the phone with my son who lives in Reno yesterday. He regretfully thinks Harry Reid will be replaced by the Republican running for office from the signs he sees there.

Based on the phone calls we are making EVERY Saturday into Nevada, Trump is NOT leading anywhere near 17% and unless people are lying to us, Catherine Cortez Masto, at 80.6% is still leading in potential votes.

                October 17, 2016

Las Vegas, NV – Today, the Catherine Cortez Masto for Senate campaign announced a new ad featuring Barack Obama telling Nevadans to vote for Catherine Cortez Masto to be their next U.S. Senator. In the ad, Obama highlights Cortez Masto’s record of fighting for Nevadans as their Attorney General and how she is the clear choice to solve problems for them in the United States Senate. The ad also reminds listeners to get out and vote during Nevada’s Early Voting from October 22 until November 4.

Listen to the ad here and see full script below.

Bringing this over so that no one misses this one!

“Michelle Obama will have her own legacy, separate from her husband’s. And it will be that she was the first first lady to show women that they don’t have to choose. That it’s okay to be everything.”

Good morning (barely!) Sue, Donna, and Anjo! I saw that article on the first lady and was about to bring it over. Lovely writing about a lovely woman, and I know that all four writers barely scratched the surface of her awesomeness.

I also read this article about the way we’re seeing Trump behave now. The first sentence is ““This is a classic example of where Trump begins to demonstrate something he talks about all the time today, which is he’s a counterpuncher. ” And it reminded me of President Obama calling himself a counter-puncher. But in his case, the counterpunching is smooth, sharp, and effective. In Trump’s case it merely means flailing wildly and harming himself as much as anyone else. It’s a good article and quotes people talking about him in the 70’s and it’s a perfect picture of how he’s behaving now.

He needs to be utterly humiliated to send the message the American people will not tolerate fascist behavior in a presidential nominee. And, of course, hopefully he will destroy the GOP in the process:-) That party has been seriously sick for decades. It needs to be destroyed and start from scratch.

    • October 17, 2016 at 12:04 pm

We only have 3 years to build a bench until important census-year elections. We must get more Dems elected to the House and in state positions to fix this horrible gerrymandering. I hope we’ll all be there to help them fight this important cause.

  23. October 17, 2016 at 12:34 pm

I thought this was a very good article. I’m guilty of a lot of the things he talks about.

“Despite recent setbacks — from video of Donald Trump bragging about committing sexual assaults, to increasing concerns regarding his preparedness and temperament, to the unprecedented pace at which high-profile Republicans are pulling their support — polls show that approximately 40% of likely voters continue to support Trump. On the one hand, this is good news for Clinton supporters who foresee a comfortable margin of victory. On the other, unless Trump loses by historic margins, it is bad news for America.”

    A good read…

So that +11 lead yesterday from NBC wasn’t an outlier poll. Monmouth is a respected, credible pollster with good methodology (live tel. interviews mixed cell and landline). Just out poll shows Clinton with +12 lead. Large majority find charges against Trump are true.

I find that number for PBO of only 29 to be suspicious. I’m happy that Hillary is getting endorsements, but, no need to minimize the number that PBO received in order to make her number look good.

      • October 17, 2016 at 4:13 pm

How many of the papers that endorsed HRC either have not endorsed in the past or endorsed a Republican? DJT has made it such that some media is going contrary to past actions.

It’s just looking at the 43 Hillary has and comparing them to 2012. Sounds reasonable that 12 who endorsed Romney are now endorsing Hillary. There could well be others who endorsed PBO that aren’t endorsing anyone this cycle – so not part of the numbers here.
