I don’t know where Russia is getting all this money for defense…
They are building up forces pre soviet era…
Building up the base in Syria… Moving s-300 s-400 missile batteries there.
Now they are talking about s-500 to defeat our stealth f-22 f-35?
Still unless they have a different radar system that doesn’t use microwave… I doubt it can consistently defeat f-22 f-35.
And remember, Russia economy is garbage… Pay went down 9.5% monthly to about 450 US dollars per month.
Yet Putin is building up his forces… Like inflatable jets and tanks to fool our satellites…
Just crazy.. But definitely something to watch… He’s up to something big.

Its my opinion that Putin is starving his country if he does this. Petro state now deciding to invest in arms to defend their receding profits does not help them in the long run. They are short sighted and will continue the decline in their national health and mental health if they do this. There’s simply nothing to look forward to. I hope they can wrest the flow of information from the Russian mob’s hands and learn more about their status. They need real information as a populace because they are just as capable as anyone of solving their problems, creating a vibrant and open society and making headway in the changing world.

Putin is indeed bankrupting Russia with his obsession for power or recognition of power and standing in the world. I believe his pride was injured when PBO referred to Russia as a regional power. Putin is unable to advance further with his venture in Ukraine. Occupation of Eastern Ukraine is also draining on the Russian treasury too. Maintaining these expenditures will bring Russia down in a few more years.

    • October 16, 2016 at 2:06 pm

Putin and Trump need each other desperately.

Putin needs Crimea recognized as Russia and the sanctions lifted, both of which Trump has said he’d do if elected.

Trump needs his Russian financial and real estate holdings secured, and no one on the planet will lend to him anymore, other than the Russian mob.

Trump is one of those text-book examples of the “Dunning-Kruger” effect: (from another post – which explains it perfectly):

“Writing for Pacific Standard, psychologist David Dunning explained it as:

In many areas of life, incompetent people do not recognize — scratch that, cannot recognize — just how incompetent they are, a phenomenon that has come to be known as the Dunning-Kruger effect. Logic itself almost demands this lack of self-insight: For poor performers to recognize their ineptitude would require them to possess the very expertise they lack. To know how skilled or unskilled you are at using the rules of grammar, for instance, you must have a good working knowledge of those rules, an impossibility among the incompetent. Poor performers — and we are all poor performers at some things — fail to see the flaws in their thinking or the answers they lack. What’s curious is that, in many cases, incompetence does not leave people disoriented, perplexed, or cautious. Instead, the incompetent are often blessed with an inappropriate confidence, buoyed by something that feels to them like knowledge.”

I know this sounds insane, but why wouldn’t Putin attempt to use Trump to pull of a coup of the USA? Trump is stupid enough to have gotten in deep with the wrong criminals – and is probably being blackmailed as we speak.

the deadbeat sucks in every issue including campaign spending.

Only about $68.7 million of the almost $212 million that Trump collected in the last three months through joint ventures with the Republican National Committee and state parties actually reached his campaign, according to the latest filings with the Federal Election Commission. Almost as much — $63.5 million — was eaten up by operating expenses such as paying for fundraising and compliance consultants, catering and event spaces, list rentals, direct mail and digital ads.

    /

Hillary Clinton’s campaign, by contrast, received $85.2 million over the three months through her joint fundraising arrangements. That’s also less than a third of the total $295 million haul. But Clinton works in lockstep with the Democratic Party and ran a leaner machine, spending 22 cents on overhead for every dollar raised, to Trump’s 30.

    Yup.

    http://washingtonmonthly.com/2016/10/16/the-right-is-a-hoax/

Trump made it this far because he understood that mainstream-media entities would not call stupidity by its name. He made it this far because he understood that there are millions of Americans who still, after all these decades, don’t understand that the Right–all of it–is a hoax, a scam to separate suckers from their money and their dignity. He made it this far because he understood that there are plenty of citizens who will fall for the simplest of cons–and that the Fourth Estate won’t even attempt to tell those citizens that they are just marks for the con.

The marks will continue to be played for suckers even if Trump loses by a significant margin. They will continue to demonstrate their limitless intolerance. They will continue to attack elected Republicans they regard as not being hateful enough. They will continue to denigrate our democracy…and they will continue to slow down our march towards progress.

Pope Francis has canonised a “gaucho priest” from his homeland Argentina, making him the country’s first saint.

Jose Gabriel del Rosario Brochero, often pictured in a poncho worn by cattle herders, travelled by mule to minister the poor in remote areas.

He was among seven saints declared in a Mass in St Peter’s Square in Rome, which was attended by thousands.

He is credited with at least two posthumous miracles, the minimum requirement for sainthood.

Norway has rejected a plan to give its neighbour Finland a mountain to mark the centenary of its independence.

A social media campaign had proposed giving Halti mountain summit to Finland for its 100th birthday next year.

The border between the two countries runs up the mountain near its peak.

But Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg said that sadly she had had to turn down the idea because the country’s constitution prohibited any sacrifice of Norwegian territory.

Part of Halti mountain is already in Finland – and forms its current highest point – but the peak is 20m (66ft) across the border inside Norwegian territory.

Campaigners had proposed moving the border to give the summit, at 1,330m (4,363 ft), to Finland, saying the change would be barely visible on the map.

You learn interesting things from canvassing. Yesterday we learned that some people actually believe that if they cast their vote for Hillary in the primary that vote was good for the general election as well and they do not have to vote again. Others believe that registering to vote is the same as voting and that their choices were somehow (magically) made known on their voter registration form and no further action is required. The lack of knowledge among many segments of our population about how elections work is stunning. All the media coverage, all the mailings about voting on November 8 pass right by them. And these are Hillary voters, who by the way say they won’t vote for anyone else on the ballot. It’s enough to make you bang your head on the nearest wall!

The good news is that the overall message–Trump bad, Hillary, good– is resonating with many people, even if they’re not clear what voting means.
The other good news is that the low information voter on the Republican side may be just as clueless.

We had our annual local Democratic Party fall dinner last night and I can tell you excitement is high. People can feel a win in the air and they are truly fired up and ready to take it to the finish line.

Need ANOTHER reason to vote for Hillary and a Dem Congress???

    http://www.nationalmemo.com/citizens-united-hits-new-low/

Citizens United—the unintentionally ironic name of the conservative non-profit organization best known for the Supreme Court case that decimated the historical definition of personhood—is basically the worst organization ever to take up arms in the righteous battle against our democracy. But according to a new report, the group is even worse than previously realized.

In an article published Tuesday, the Daily Beast revealed Citizens United is scamming the elderly by soliciting fundraising from senior citizens with dementia and Alzheimer’s. According to the report, Jennifer Bell discovered the company’s scheme when a relative of hers was hospitalized. When Bell had her family member’s mail forwarded to herself, she began receiving upwards of five letters per week from Citizens United.

“I am writing this letter to ask for your forgiveness and understanding with a recent mix-up with the Post Office,” president David Bosse (who’s currently working as a deputy campaign manager for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign) wrote in the letter. “As a result, we were unable to receive your $50 donation.”

“If you can see it in your heart to re-send your $50 in the included postage-provided envelope it would be a blessing to us,” the letter reads.

But according to Bell, her family member never sent a check to the organization. And, as Bell points out, how would they have known her relative sent a donation in the first place, if a post office “mix-up” prevented Citizens United from receiving the check.

“The fact that they’re sending this fraudulent piece of mail that says, ‘Oh, we didn’t get your $50’—that means they know the person has forgotten they didn’t send a check,” Bell said. “If you send them multiple pieces in a day, they’ll write a check for every piece because of dementia or Alzheimer’s.”

Sarah Hurwitz, the Jewish Speechwriter Behind Michelle Obama’s Strongest Words
Sarah Hurwitz first appeared on the Obamas’ radar after writing Hillary Clinton’s famous ‘glass ceiling’ concession speech in 2008.

    /……………………………………..

Two days later, Hurwitz got a phone call from the Obama campaign, inviting her on board.

For seven years, the 39-year-old Harvard Law School grad has been responsible for writing Michelle Obama’s speeches. The two first joined forces during a 90-minute meeting in Obama’s living room in Chicago, where they mapped out the future first lady’s speech at a 2008 Denver convention — the very same one Melania Trump would later be accused of plagiarizing.

She talked about her working-class background, the family values she and Barack share and the importance of dignity and respect.

“[Michelle Obama] clearly said to me: ‘Okay, this is who I am. This is where I come from. This is my family. These are my values, and this is what I want to talk about at the convention,’” Hurwitz recalled in an interview with the Washington Post. “I realized then that Michelle Obama knows who she is, and she always knows what she wants to say.”

Interesting, but Michelle told a reporter after her speech in NH on Thursday that she wrote that speech herself. I thought it was obvious from her delivery as well.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all that Michelle wrote any of her speeches herself. However, it also doesn’t surprise me that she would/may have discussed it with her speechwriter – she is after all a very busy person. Also, I remember that POTUS has a speechwriter or two, yet he works closely with them, and there have been occasions when he’s written his own speech or edited theirs heavily to reflect what *he* wants to say.

      • October 16, 2016 at 1:59 pm

i find it interesting that the press…. 1. wanted to say that FLOTUS did not write her speech…and that some how they thought it was necessary to call out the speechwriters heritage…i am so weary of the press trying to demean whatever FLOTUS and The President does…although i will miss them being in the WH for sure…every time the press or the GOP slaps the FLOTUS and PBO i feel as if they have slapped me…damn…i know that i have to be “no ways tired” because there will always be so much more to do…but …but…just DAMN,,,

Hurwitz says about Michelle that it was clear from the moment they met in 2008 that”She knows who she is and what she wants to say.” MO has never been an empty-headed Stepford wife. She has always forged her own way and decided where she would go and what she would say, so much so that in the early days of the presidency, some like Robert Gibbs had to learn that she would not be handled. Because she chose to downplay some of her bonafides (in part because of what HRC went through as FLOTUS and because of the kind of parent she needed and wanted to be in these unique circumstances), some people forget that behind the beautiful face, the warm hugs and engaging personality, is a formidable intellect, a fiercely independent woman who knows her own worth and one who knows how to focus on and work toward attaining a goal utilizing all of her gifts. She had the JD behind her Harvard degree before Barack, and as all of us know, he was her intern. Michelle Robinson Obama, aka the Closer, is a force of nature.
