    I remember in 2009/10 there was talk about the disjointed democratic party – how the blue dogs were closer to republicans and didn’t always support the President – whereas the GOP stood together.

    Seems the only thing that kept the GOP together was their racist hate against the President. The democrats have become the party of the sane, the party that puts country first, the party where all are working together to elect the first woman President of the USA. It is an absolute delight to see all the people – especially POTUS & FLOTUS – campaigning for and supporting Hillary Clinton.

    I knew Donald Trump was an aberration – I never expected that the republican party would disintegrate around him. Unless he gets cut off 100% from social media – his vote could go lower than 27% & he is taking the house down with him.

    There will not be enough popcorn in the world ….

I was helping my Church with their annual Agora, Greek Festival, Thursday from Sunday, and I was at two phone banks for Hillary on Thursday and Monday night.

    My thoughts and prayers for anyone that has been affected by Hurricane Matthew.

      Hello sjterrid – it seems a busy time you have had. I love how all the TODers help with GOTV events. Where I live voting is compulsory so we don’t have to do any of this (probably as well – most are not very politically motivated).

        We have been calling voters in New Jersey two nights a week to go to PA on the weekends to Canvas and phone bank at a campaign office there. I’m sure there will be a big GOTV campaign there starting Saturday before the election.

    the homegrown demagogue has once again made this country a laughing stock across the globe.

    yes, even the current dictators who have been in power for decades are gleeful about the turn of events in the US and are even using him & his supporters as an argument to justify why democracy is not the best thing for a country;

    so we have one job between now and nov/8th, which is to make sure that he is thoroughly defeated;

    only then can we begin to reverse this kind of media observation:

    Drew Linzer

    How bad is it for Donald Trump? Let’s do the math.

    Even before news broke this weekend about Donald Trump’s 2005 Access Hollywood tapes, he had been receiving some extremely bleak polling numbers. As of today, Trump trails Hillary Clinton by 9 points in Virginia, by 8 points in Pennsylvania, by 6 points in Colorado, by 4 points in Florida, and by 3 points in North Carolina.

    When we run all of these polls though our presidential forecasting model, it predicts that Trump has less than a 10 percent chance of winning the presidency.

    Those are long odds. But they follow from the data. Here’s why our model is able to make such a strong prediction—and why we’re not the only forecasters to see the race this way.

    //
    If we follow this procedure with our current set of state probabilities, Clinton comes out ahead in 99 percent of simulations. That is, in only 1 out of every 100 simulated elections does Donald Trump receive 270 or more electoral votes, and win the election. Clinton’s lead is so substantial that if we count up the electoral votes in the states she’s most likely to win, she gets to 273 by winning Colorado—an outcome that our model estimates is 94 percent likely.

    //

    The other major forecasting models aren’t any more favorable to Trump’s chances. If we take the probabilities of winning each state currently being forecasted by The Upshot, FiveThirtyEight, The Huffington Post, PredictWise, and the Princeton Election Consortium, and run them through the same simulation, the result is nearly identical: Clinton’s implied chances of winning the national election are close to 100 percent:

    FiveThirtyEight: 98 percent
    The Upshot: 97 percent
    The Huffington Post: 99 percent
    Princeton Election Consortium: 98 percent
    PredictWise: 99 percent

    Good evening, TODville. Not to get melodramatic (not me!), but I just spent almost a full first day today as a 70-year-old! Family and friends made it special. I am here to tell you not to fear this age if you are anywhere close. Not sure how to describe it, but it’s like a whole new lease on life! So glad to have made it to the big 7-0. The melodramatic part? Just saw that car commercial on the teevee (car brand not important)(unless you sell cars), where the guy is saying this, and tonight I feel exactly the same way about reaching this milestone birthday. This is not a call for “cards and letters” – I just wanted to share it with my O’friends! Watch out, world, here I come. Here’s the excerpt:

    something tells me that as he campaigns for SoS HRC this Thursday in Las Vegas, VP Joe is going to go after the homegrown demagogue in a very pointed manner.

    some of the reasons why the speech may be those of righteous anger and quotable for a while :

    – Uncle Joe does not like bullies and he I think he has already had enough of DT’s boorish behavior;

    – the issue of sexual violence is something VP has worked on for decades and DT & his enablers are directly undermining the progress VP has been trying to make to sensitize and encourage the nation (and especially young people) to reject;

    – and this Thursday, FLOTUS will be on the campaign trail too … so we may see a double beat-down

      Still can’t get my head around it being a sacking offence for NBC – but quite acceptable for most of the GOP & supporters to hear it from their Presidential nominee.

      • October 12, 2016 at 9:07 am

        I read a piece that explained that there were a few motivations prompting his dismissal:

        1) They could be liable for hostile work environment claims, which indicate this behavior was not a one-off. Both Trump and Bush seem oblivious to the serious nature of their banter.
        2) He not only cheered Trump’s remarks, he goaded them on. He was bragging about his experience with Trump to others very recently but neglected to tell higher ups that the tape existed.
        3) There were several in their morning line-up who didn’t care for him in the first place.

        I’m glad he’s out simply because it’s a lesson to others to examine their own behavior and language.

          gm Meta – I can understand why Bush is being sacked – I just can’t understand why ALL of the GOP hasn’t removed their support from Trump. If it is a sacking offense for one – surely it is for the other.

          • October 12, 2016 at 9:18 am

  46. October 12, 2016 at 7:15 am

    This is this point in the general election where people typically start to really pay attention. I would expect the focus of the candidate’s events to be their policies and what they expect to do once they are elected. Attacks on their opponents would be about the differences in their policies and attempting to persuade voters why their policies are better for the country. Our political system and election process have become so lax that Trump has been able to turn it into a circus. I go to bed each night mentally exhausted from the silliness, sensationalism, and negativity that has infiltrated this general election. I awaken somewhat angered that we, as voters, are being subjected to this.

    I keep saying this is like an extended episode of the Twilight Zone. In this case, you have a spoiled child who has never grown up and continues to be catered to. A bully who is quick to anger and will always retaliate. A selfish person who has no empathy for the plight of others; whose actions are ALWAYS about benefitting himself. A manipulative individual who has been able to use his wealth, external resources, and even the law to get his way. A person so vain he thinks he is perfect – omniscient and omnipotent; who thinks that everyone and everything else is a disaster because he projects all his faults and flaws on others. One so full of deceit that he wouldn’t know the truth if it beat him to a bloody pulp; whose ā€œtruthā€ is based, not on reality, but what’s in *his* mind. A truth that changes on a whim; changes to suit whatever he is trying achieve. A person whom, thus far, has not suffered any significant consequences for his actions, and therefore, sees no need to admit when he is wrong, to apologize, nor repent.

    Trump’s campaign – especially his rallies – has completely transitioned to all entertainment – for himself and for what is now considered his base. Trump isn’t even pretending anymore. His rallies are a forum for name calling – often vulgar, lies, chants of ā€œlock her upā€ and ā€œguiltyā€. It encourages racist/misogynistic/xenophobic/homophobic intolerance and tirades. It gives permission to discount the values that made this country great. It says it’s okay to disrespect our system of government and our rule of law. There is no longer any pretense that his campaign is about creating jobs, improving the economy, keeping the country safe…

    His staunchest surrogates and supporters are allowing themselves to be used as tools/weapons in his vendettas — against the Clintons; against Paul Ryan and the GOP establishment; against anyone who dares to challenge him on his claims of grandeur and who calls him out on his lies, his bullying, his deceit, and his lack of business skills.

    As much as I hate to wish away my days, November 8th can’t come soon enough.

      There have already been proof that at least one document was forged/modified.

      It seems that for journalists these days, the route taken is the one that requires the least effort. The least effort is to take information at face value, no matter the source; especially if it has an entertainment/sensational aspect to it. It also seems that the route of least effort is the one taken by the majority. No thinking required.

      US really wants to hope Trump is not elected cause he has every intention of arresting people for dissent, getting rid of the 1st amendment and being a law unto himself.

      I am also thinking the protests for BLM are a form of dissent, yet people in the US get arrested for that all the time. It is a fine line between what a country represents and what a country does.
