Yay GGail! Back to civilization after a weekend of hiking. Missed the latest hideous Trump bombshell but saw him mantimidating Hillary on stage last night and claiming everything our President has done is awful. Re-upping for more GOTV action and donations today!

Hey GGail, Congrats on first. We just got back from our son’s wedding in McClellanville, SC where Hurricane Matthew showed up on what would have been his wedding day. We had to move it up to Thursday and then everyone evacuated Friday before Matthew made landfall just southeast of MCVL. Half the guests couldn’t come/canceled but those that were there were a strong and mighty force and they are now on their way to their honeymoon in Morocco and Paris. I am tired but watched the debate last night. OMG.

I don’t know why white Americans say DT’s behavior is “Unamerican” when America has institutional racism written into their laws and treatment of minorities since it’s beginning. Every time we think that those who have these attitudes have died off, a new generation lifts it’s ugly head. Racism is alive and well in America and it is an American culture and mindset.

      • October 10, 2016 at 4:31 pm

        I agree…with what you have written…

but we are also a country the rose to the occasion and elected Barack Obama- President…not once but twice….and i believe that we will rise once again and elect Hillary Clinton …but i will say…that we cannot rest..as one of the commentators to the article states: (Trump) his supporters will remain, unrepentant, and next time around they will come with a more palatable version of Trump, one that actually has a chance to win.

      • October 10, 2016 at 6:02 pm

Because his behavior is not only un-American, it’s inhumane, and anti-Human. The dictatorial behavior like going after your political opponents, threatening to throw them in jail, calling for their assassination, and saying he won’t accept the electoral outcome if he loses is pure Putin and completely un-American.

The Racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, etc…. are all inhumane, and anti-human.

      • 18 99ts
        October 10, 2016 at 6:59 pm

Presumably white Americans think it is unamerican to be so open about racism. They are fine with racism that is denied while being practiced in 1000 different ways

    • 19 Sandy1110
      October 10, 2016 at 6:22 pm

The biggest mistake people can make is getting complacent and believing the massive lie that racism is ever ‘over’.

There will ALWAYS be Neo-Nazis and Aryan Nations and all the other hate groups.

These groups don’t disappear. They go underground and mutate and adapt like a virus to come back in a more virulent strain.

As this author said, if they lose with Trump, they’ll try and try again until they come up with a more mainstream version who can win an election.

Yes this was posted already but reposting is fine with me. This woman’s struggle brought tears to my eyes. Can you imagine how victims and survivors like her felt watching and listening to Trump describe how sexually assaults women and how he can get away with it because he’s “star”? HORRIFIC.

Clinton, despite rumors to the contrary, is a human being. She had to speak fluently about policy while being flayed for her husband’s sins before an audience of tens of millions. She had to appear unruffled while Trump, stewing and pacing, loomed behind her, physically menacing her with his bulk. He threatened to have her imprisoned if elected; she betrayed not a hint of rage or shock. She made, I think, a strategic decision not to fully engage with him, even if that meant letting some of his outrageous assertions hang there unchallenged. To me, she seemed a model of grace and poise, smiling through a disgusting ordeal.

  28. October 10, 2016 at 4:05 pm

Long form piece; worth the read. Bottom line:

“Today, the clash of deeply felt racial and class grievances, compounded by cultural wounds on both sides of the identity divide, is crowding out the progressive brand of populism that America once had and so sorely needs. It will take uncommon leadership and rare social empathy to redirect the crosscurrents of rage and hurt into a broad popular coalition of uplift against the one group that floats above it all—today’s economic super-elite. ”
