I remember spending the night at my grandmother’s house and watching “The Golden Girls” with my grandmother and grandfather and my aunt. I miss those days, Bea Arthur was my favorite. I doubt though if I’ll buy any of the action figures. Morning sunshine.

Unfortunately the debate tonight will not be about policy or foreign affairs, that train has left the station. Trump has an itch that he has to scratch, and that scratch is Hillary and Bill’s marriage. Trump could not care any less about policies or positions, he is like a trapped dog that will do anything to defend himself no matter the consequences. Hillary will be predictable tonight, as in predictably cool calm and collected. She is unflappable, she’s seen this movie before.

      October 9, 2016 at 11:11 am

Half the questions will be from the audience and half come from social media. We shall see!

      • October 9, 2016 at 12:05 pm

Maybe he thinks he will be able to ignore the question(s) and just talk about whatever he wants, like he does with the moderators. If he does this, I wonder if the person(s) asking the question(s) will call him out on it…or if we’ll hear about it instead after the debate when they survey the audience.

    • 36 99ts
      October 9, 2016 at 11:13 am

Hillary will not rise to his bait & I cannot imagine that every question will relate to marriage issues. What the moderator does will determine the path the debate takes. Interestingly on the Sunday shows today – everyone seems to be bringing Giuliani back to the topic of Trump & the republicans rather than let him rant about Bill Clinton. Amazing how the media can turn on sixpence.

    • October 9, 2016 at 11:24 am

I think you nailed it. Trump can’t help himself. He’s vile and now he’s like a caged animal in search of vicious retribution against the GOP and sliming HRC as much as he can. I’m guessing he’ll come off looking that way. Not sure how much it matters.

This audience is supposed to be made up of “undecideds.” Wondering if these people live in a cave and lack critical thinking skills or are just lying for the attention.

Of such stuff is US politics as defined by the US media. The world will watch in amazement as the highest position in the land is decided by discussing a tape of men being revolting chauvinistic pigs. Trump will be better prepared for this question than for ANY question about US policies at home or abroad.

    • October 9, 2016 at 11:25 am

Why are they leaking this? I swear, MSM works 24/7 to give him every advantage.

      • 44 99ts
        October 9, 2016 at 11:36 am

It is the only question he has already prepared for meta. I have ZERO understanding why it should even be mentioned in a Presidential debate – but perhaps because Trump was going to use false equivalence to bring it up – it has just been rationalized.

I agree with you it shouldn’t be leaked – but it will make zero difference to what Trump has to say. He won’t be able to discuss anything else. Today, while most would be preparing, he is tweeting the start of the GOP civil war.

      • October 9, 2016 at 12:49 pm

The media wants to make sure the Trump tapes get mentioned…so they are mentioning it…and they want to give Trump a chance to attack Hillary…

    Good morning, TOD ohana.
I love Barack and Michelle (the end of WWW is cute and so them).
I miss Chips and think of her often; hope she will come back to us to soon.
Many thanks to NW for keeping the village open.
Thank you to TODers who have increased my knowledge, helped restore my faith in the inherent goodness and sensibility of diverse people around the world.
Thank you to Hillary Clinton for her strength.
To all women who have been slighted, under-estimated, under paid, made to feel worthless by their abusers and have survived it to live and fight on; to our grandmothers, mothers, aunties, and play-mamas who have advised us, had faith in us and taught us to hold on and to hold out, and to our daughters that follow and fight along side of us, ‘There’s no stopping us now, we’re on the move. Let’s truly make the rest of the 21st century the Century of the Woman.
To the men who love us, support us and fight with us for full equality, I thank and salute you.
I, like many others here, have been truly sickened by this awful election cycle and the continuing state sanctioned police war against Americans of African descent, but I have to believe that the majority of us will stand up to vote and to act, in small ways and large ones, to save the soul of our country by bringing about recognition, reconciliation, reparation of our true history and its ills to perfect our union.
PBO has given us a vision, a path, and an example to lead us to becoming for the first time in its history, a country that works for all in which everyone has full citizenship in deed as well as on paper; one in which all of our gits can be unleashed to benefit everyone so that we can truly be the country that our songs and legends say we are.
    Have a beautiful day everyone.

So…it appears that Hillary Clinton is not just running against Donald Trump, but Mike Pence as well. Geez

And *now* DT offends Republicans and they are outraged. We see through that too, GOP.

I see they are trying to make a big deal about HRC having a public view and a private view. Who doesn’t?!?!?! Howard Dean expressed it well this morning when he said in government, especially, you need that to be able to compromise.

Republicans try to say that Democrats are destroying this country. Their party is in shambles, and they’re doing a “bang up” job having the majority of both chambers. But they think they can do a better job running this country.

The way we shut this thing down is to go vote in such massive numbers and give Hillary the support she needs in Congress. Nothing else really matters in the end. We can all move forward and leave the knuckle draggers behind and forge a country that embraces all of us equally. That is really all there is. Let’s make this so…for all of us, for Madam President and for the wonderful legacy,to be continued and so richly deserved, of President Barack Obama.

Pope Francis names 17 new cardinals of the Catholic Church.

Pope Francis has named 17 new cardinals of the Catholic Church, including 13 who are eligible to vote to elect his successor when he resigns or dies.

The new cardinals are mainly from developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

The appointments on Sunday emphasise the growing influence at the Vatican of clerics from the developing world.

Only one of the new cardinals is from Italy, the nation that has dominated church politics for centuries.

Pope Francis, who celebrates his 80th birthday in December, is putting down important markers for the future of the Catholic Church.

A good reminder in times like these. The Syrians and other refugees with whom he share our country may one day be the blessing that we sorely need. Those from other groups that some look down upon may be our saving grace. Every act, good or bad, has consequences.
When I think about how so many groups have been marginalized in this country and what we have lost because of it, I think of how the Navajo wind talkers did much to save this country in WWII. White ministers and the government had tried to beat their language and their culture out of them, killed many, and sent their children away to these schools to make them quasi-white people who would not really belong to either group. But it was their language, that does not have Latin or Greek roots, the enemy code breakers were unable to decipher and thus vital messages were sent successfully back and forth in the war effort. If we want our country to continue to grow and to strengthen, we cannot afford to dismiss or to leave anyone behind.

Good day TOD! Nerdy, thank you for your never ending work to keep us up and running. I know this has to be a big time consumer for you. We APPRECIATE YOU!

Actually, I am looking forward to the debate tonight. Donald is madder than usual, and it will be interesting to see what he does with his rage. I figure the odds are 50-50 he goes after Bill and Hillary. He might not be able to help himself given I suspect in his mind what Bill did was far worse. On the other hand, he has a history of choking when he comes face to face with an opponent, and then goes on the attack afterwards.

But whatever he does, I hope Hillary uses his comments to advocate for more reform. if nothing else, what these comments have done (along with other stories this year) is to highlight the rape/harrassment that is far too prevailing yet in our culture. This would be a good opportunity to discuss it in a much watched forum.

But whatever she does, I have confidence she will be ready. Interesting article today on her obsession with preparing.

nope, in fact that’s their ‘base’– funny how that term means:

‘ The portion of a social organization, especially a political party, consisting of the most dedicated or motivated members.’

          but also:

‘Having or showing a lack of decency; contemptible, mean-spirited, or selfish. Synonyms: base2, low1, abject, ignoble, mean2, sordid
These adjectives mean lacking in dignity or falling short of the standards befitting humans. Base suggests a contemptible, mean-spirited, or selfish lack of human decency.’
