I was listening to Randi Rhodes when a caller made the statement that PBO has done nothing he said he would do, how he hasn’t passed this bill or that bill. Randi asked if he knew that all legislation begins with the House and the Senate votes on it and then goes to the President who can veto or sign the bill? If he knew that PBO fund anything unless the House and Senate agrees? The guy kept saying yes he knew but it was STILL PBO fault. People are so damned stupid. I am hoping someone else was listening and GOT IT! while this fool on the phone had no clue how our government works.

Everyone on this site knows–has always known–that President Obama will rank as one of the greatest presidents in history. When I think back on the few great leaders–Lincoln, FDR–I imagine what it would be like to have a complete day to day visual diary of their time in office–every speech, every visit, every activity digitally archived and available for the world to see and for historians to research. And that, in essence,is what The Obama Diary is–a comprehensive record of every hour of every day of one of the greatest of our presidents. So, the question becomes, how can this rich archive be permanently and publicly stored so that it can be accessed for generations? The Obama Library seems a logical answer, but I haven’t any idea how that can come about. Any ideas?

I agree jackiegrumbacher. This has to be archived and stored for future generation. This is where so many came together and fought to elect, re-elect, fight for ACA, and a host of PBO’s Administration signature bills. TOD deserves a spot in history.

Poland’s parliament has voted overwhelmingly to reject a controversial citizens’ bill for a near-total ban on abortion.

The government said that protests against the bill had given ministers “food for thought”.

Poland already has among the tightest abortion laws in Europe, and the proposal sought to ban all abortions unless the mother’s life was at risk.

MPs voted to reject the bill by 352 votes to 58.

The bill came from an anti-abortion citizens’ initiative that gathered some 450,000 signatures. It was initially backed by the Catholic Church, but bishops then said they could not support one of the proposals, to jail women who had an abortion.

Mike Pence has no such qualms. Never thought Catholic Priests would be the ones who supported the women.

For Florida, one of the flattest states in the country (I think Delaware might be flatter — Google tells me the highest elevation in Florida is along the AL-FL border in the panhandle at just over 300 ft above sea level) — 9 foot storm surge will inundate huge swaths, and no doubt displace alligators lurking in (every?) lake (which are EVERYWHERE there).

      Uninhabitable for weeks (!!!) … 😦

The property tax bill shows that Trump owes approximately $97,000 by July 1st, and $192,000 in total. The highlighted section shows the “Basic STAR – School Tax Relief” credit that New York City’s Trump Tower was eligible for.

But, as The Washington Post notes, in order to qualify for the STAR credit, you must own your own home, it must be your primary place of residence, and you and your spouse can’t make a combined income of over $500,000 annually. There’s also an enhanced STAR credit for people who make under $84,550 and are at least 65 years of age, a requirement which Trump meets. So basically, Trump’s income for the 2014 tax year would have had to have been between $84,550 and $500,000.

And what’s even more surprising is the fact that Crain’s New York found the same tax credit in Trump’s 2015 property taxes.

    POTUS article @ Economist:

WHEREVER I go these days, at home or abroad, people ask me the same question: what is happening in the American political system? How has a country that has benefited—perhaps more than any other—from immigration, trade and technological innovation suddenly developed a strain of anti-immigrant, anti-innovation protectionism? Why have some on the far left and even more on the far right embraced a crude populism that promises a return to a past that is not possible to restore—and that, for most Americans, never existed at all?
It’s true that a certain anxiety over the forces of globalisation, immigration, technology, even change itself, has taken hold in America. It’s not new, nor is it dissimilar to a discontent spreading throughout the world, often manifested in scepticism towards international institutions, trade agreements and immigration. It can be seen in Britain’s recent vote to leave the European Union and the rise of populist parties around the world.
Much of this discontent is driven by fears that are not fundamentally economic. The anti-immigrant, anti-Mexican, anti-Muslim and anti-refugee sentiment expressed by some Americans today echoes nativist lurches of the past—the Alien and Sedition Acts of 1798, the Know-Nothings of the mid-1800s, the anti-Asian sentiment in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and any number of eras in which Americans were told they could restore past glory if they just got some group or idea that was threatening America under control. We overcame those fears and we will again. [….]

On Thursday morning, a group of 30 former Republican Congress members declared they wouldn’t support Donald Trump in an open letter, warning voters that the current GOP presidential candidate does not reflect their values.

While the entirety of it is fairly damning for the Trump campaign, the excerpt below may be one of the most severe critiques:

Given the enormous power of the office, every candidate for president must be judged rigorously in assessing whether he or she has the competence, intelligence, knowledge, understanding, empathy, judgment, and temperament necessary to keep America on a safe and steady course. Donald Trump fails on each of those measures, and he has proven himself manifestly unqualified to be president.

“I don’t think she is struggling to connect with the African-American vote,” said former Cincinnati mayor Jerry Springer. “How do you get the same enthusiasm that Obama got when he was obviously going to be the first African-American president? It’s unfair to hold her to that standard. But the one thing that gives the Democrats a realistic chance of winning this thing is their turnout operation is phenomenal.” <- THIS
