Howdy y’all. NW you’re the best…here’s a chuckle to start the weekend.

    Little Johnny meets Donald Trump

Donald Trump was visiting a primary school in Orlando and visited a grade four class.
They were in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings.
The teacher asked Mr.Trump if he would like to lead the discussion on the word ‘tragedy.’
So our illustrious Republican candidate asked the class for an example of a ‘tragedy’.

One little boy stood up and offered: “If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing in the field and a tractor runs him over and kills him, that would be a tragedy.”
“No,” said Trump, “that would be an accident.”

A little girl raised her hand: “If a school bus carrying 50 children drove off a cliff, killing everyone, that would be a tragedy.” “I’m afraid not,” explained Trump. “That’s what we would call great loss.”

The room went silent. No other child volunteered.

Trump searched the room. “Isn’t there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?” Finally at the back of the room, Little Johnny raised his hand. The teacher held her breath. In a quiet voice he said:

“If the plane carrying you was struck by a ‘friendly fire’ missile and blown to smithereens that would be a tragedy.”
Fantastic!” exclaimed Trump, “That’s right. And can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?”
“Well,” says Johnny, “It has to be a tragedy, because it sure as hell wouldn’t be a great loss…and you can bet your sweet ass it wouldn’t be an accident either!”

    The teacher left the room.

The media always has a choice of which stories to carry, how to frame those stories, and how much credence to give their main actors. In the early hours of the Balloon Boy story, Phillips and Sanchez took care to emphasize how little they knew about the situation, which was good.

But they also proceeded to bring in guests who knew even less about it than they did. Within minutes of cutting to the story, Phillips was interviewing a balloon expert named Craig Kennedy, who had no idea what was happening and who couldn’t see any footage from wherever he was. “You’re asking for a great deal of speculation without me being able to see anything that’s going on,” Kennedy said, and that is exactly what CNN and its competitors want their guests to do, and it then becomes the hosts’ job to refrain from calling attention to their guests’ limitations.

It works the same way with every afactual political commentator, every blustering politician, every in-the-dark aviation expert, every grinning ax-grinder who finds his way onto the air. And the more adept he is at confident speculation, the more airtime he receives.

I remember that 24/7 coverage of Balloon Boy – from CNN, in particular – every time the “news” outlets start with their latest story du jour. They cannot resist the eyeballs.

I bet Hillary has given Bill a piece of her mind about him holding up POTUS in Israel.

BTW, if the question remains on the ballot, I recommend a no vote. Current republican Chief Justice is facing mandatory retirement at age 70; republican legislature is trying to increase age in order to retain CJ post.

I agree, Alycee. The word needs to go out to Dems to vote no if they see this question on the ballot.

I have a different take on it. I do not think Bill was consciously trying to be disrespectful. I think Bill is an extreme extrovert with no inner time restraints. I remember hearing that during his time in office he was rarely on time. When he is around people he goes overboard in chatting. Yes, it is all about himself and it is tiresome and appears egocentric. I will miss the Obamas a lot.

Maybe I’m being too sensitive or petty but something about Bill Clinton holding up AF1 rubs me the wrong way. You don’t keep the President waiting; I don’t care if you were President yourself. To me it shows a certain amount of disrespect and showmanship, and it screams “look at me.” In my opinion sometimes Bill Clinton doesn’t show the proper amount respect, and it bothers me.

I thought the same thing Don, but President Obama seemed to take it in stride, so I’ll follow his lead.

    • October 1, 2016 at 10:30 am

I feel the same way! Do you remember the time they were both in NYC for I think some sort of groundbreaking or something? Or maybe it was something else, I can’t really recall the details (I thought it was the beam signing ceremony but I can’t find it on Google). Anyway, PBO was speaking and then BC spoke and he went on and on and on and it was just so over the top that even PBO was sort of giving him the side-eye because he had to be the center of attention. So yeah, that’s always BC’s story and hes’ extremely annoying.

    • October 1, 2016 at 11:42 am

Morning TOD. Right there with you Don. Which is the main reason I didn’t want to see any more Clintons in the WH. He, at least, acts like he’s entitled and has always been piggish for attention. Still think he is angry at PBO for taking HIS chance to re-enter the WH. IMO, it’s not about his wife, but about him needing to be there.

Since the locally spawned kkk racists didn’t cut it, apparently donnie dick is outsourcing the debate prep to that brexit racist.

Have been to two fundraiser this week, one for Denise Juneau who is running for our lone Congressional seat. She is our current Superintendent of Education. She has been elected twice state wide, so I have great hope. She is also Indian and is really working hard to register Indians on the reservations. She is running against Ryan Zinke who is an idiot. He is a former seal and has an ego as huge as Donald’s. He wanted to run for Speaker of the House and then he thought he could be Vice President, he is still an avid supporter of Trump. This is Montana we have so many who will vote Republican no matter what, but many do split ticket. I don’t think Hillary will win.

The second fundraiser was for Steve Bullock who is our current Governor. Greg Gianforte is running against him. He is a multi millionaire who moved here from New Jersey and is a VERY conservative Christian. The thing that I believe will lose the election for him is that when he moved here he bought this mansion on a river and sued the state to block people from using the river in front of his house. That is a big no no in Montana where the outdoors is our life.

I haven’t seen our Congressional race with Denise talked much about nationally, but I believe we can win it. If you are looking for races where your money will really go far, I recommend looking into Denise. She would be our first woman congressperson in 100 years, she is Indian and she is gay. Let’s go Blue Wave.

Hot Damn!! Just got off the phone with my dad…been a Republican all his life…he’s almost 85 now….He told me that he’s voting for Hillary. Can’t vote for that asshole (his words) He can’t even stand to listen to him or see his face ( After all these years, my dad and I can FINALLY, FINALLY agree on something political!) This makes me so happy!! I told him to do it for his grandkids… The fact that HE brought up the conversation makes me even MORE happy:) I might just send him a Thank You card:)

    Morning everyone:)
