      GE Ladyhawke.

I am about to tear my hair out.

So much to savor about the Obama Administration, and Congress has been the biggest butthead imaginable since Jan 20, 2009.

We are currently in the throes of the most appalling election cycle since the illiterate stopped being the majority in America — white nationalism, virulent anti-Semitism and racism, crude language, violent threats and white supremacy are now A-OK with our despicable media.

If you want to know how awful Julie Davis at the NYTimes is, she had the unmitigated gall to tweet this yesterday.

Steam has been coming out of my ears for 36 hours now.

This was front paged at BJ

      Speaking of Trump & birtherism

” It slowly dawned on the listener that this was all of a piece with the rest of Trump’s racial attitudes: he believes that, as a rich white man, he had a right to stop and frisk the President of the United States and demand that the uppity black man show him his papers. Stop-and-frisk isn’t just a form of policing for Trump; it’s a whole way of life. The idea that he had a right to force a black man to go through what Obama rightly saw as the demeaning business of producing his birth certificate showed his fundamental contempt for any normal idea of racial equality.”

      And then

“one of the last subjects of the debate—his misogyny. By sexism, we mean something specific, not the business of appreciating beauty—if Trump wants to host beauty contests, let him—but the habit of conceiving of a woman as being a lesser species, one defined exclusively by appearance. His cruelty to Alicia Machado was unleavened by any apparent respect for her as a human being in any role other than as an envelope of flesh—an attitude he only doubled down on the following morning by complaining that she presented what he saw as an obvious problem as a reigning Miss Universe: she had gained “a massive amount of weight” (by Trump standards, that is). Again, this wasn’t a problem of how he chose to present his beliefs; the problem is with the beliefs. This wasn’t a question of preparation. It was that the things he actually believes are themselves repellent even when coherently presented. This was not a bad performance. This is a bad man.”

    not only is the congress stupid and cowardly, but they have a supporting cast in form of a media that is just eager to demonstrate how uninformed they too are;

    from the tweets this media person sent out about JASTA aka 9/11 bill, she doesn’t seem to know what she is talking about – shifting from placing blame on PBO to congress and back again, all in the course of 24 hours;

GM donna – the media just can’t help themselves – if they don’t want Trump they should be 100% endorsing Hillary – there is no other choice. They were at it on Morning idiot – saying Hillary won the debate but would now “overplay” her hand – Sec Clinton has run the most ordered, controlled and impeccable campaign regardless as to the primary or the general. The GOP on the other hand has seen the worst of America displayed on the world stage.

Big news on my home front. I’m preparing for retirement in a few years and so we recently sold our house and will be downsizing to a one level home. Packing and Purging is a JOB. I’m looking forward to the smaller place but getting rid of years and years of “stuff” has been a challenge.

Took us nearly 2 years to downsize! Did much before we sold & the rest after.
Years ago we went to a single level home – it was rather a joy to not have to go up and down those stairs. Enjoy it all – retirement is having the time to do things – albeit they take much longer than they used to take 🙂

That is one strange endorsement. On the one hand she scorns Hillary for “rambling on” about institutional racism at the debate but chastises Trump for “his accumulation of Alt-Right cheerleaders, white supremacists and swastika devotees”. Does she not understand that racism is racism regardless of what form it rears its ugly head? Interesting 😯

    a very good bj post

The last time the economy was nearly this strong, the country narrowly elected George Bush over Al Gore. There’s something about prosperity that tends to incline Americans to vote for Republicans. I suspect that it’s a combination of complacency among Democratic core voters and a shift in independent voters once the need or potential need for a helping hand from the government recedes.

I must say our voters, most of them poor by any measure, are so much smarter.

I have wondered why people complain about things when they are improved also. I know “change” has been defined as people being against it as an unknown evil thing in some circles thus Donald’s Make America Great AGAIN line appeals to those wanting to go back to familiar times. In that case “change” means change back from the direction things are going in. Change can be defined simply as going in a different or continued direction, not staying in the same place. I remember the saying “The only constant is change.”
Another way to think about it is using the optimist and pessimist comparison of the glass is half full or half empty. There are some people that simply complain about everything and are never happy. In my personal experience right now I am seeing that with those I know are supporting Donald Trump. Give them Donald and in no time at all they will want someone else. The people I know supporting him cannot vocalize what they want that is different than now. They are narrow in focus applying everything only to their own needs and critical of everything. They see Donald like themselves and I would not argue with that call.

I fully agree with you, meta, the short-sidedness of this congress is breathtaking. Either they didn’t read the bill or they jumped at the chance to make President Obama look bad or both. Its like they built their own plank and walked it all the while daring the President to stop them. And now they look like even bigger fools trying to undue the damage they’ve done.

          • September 30, 2016 at 8:56 am

        • September 30, 2016 at 9:49 am

it is interesting to me how they try to find something to stick to the President..to try to prove that they are smarter and more astute than the President…and most times they fall flat on their face….tell me..was it really necessary for Hillary to make a statement about this…and now what will she say now that Congress has opened a batshit crazy can of worms…and moving to change the bill…

          • September 30, 2016 at 10:02 am

I think the politics of what will look good to voters entered into the thinking. PBO has mostly made good decisions disregarding what is best politically and explaining why he made those decisions. You can see that Senator Harry Reid did not have to make a political decision when opposing the over ride since he was not running again. Representative Pelosi made the political call. The issue could have been resolved by Congress thinking beyond the election, but that is rare much to my dismay.

This is so scary about HRC that she does everything for the optics like voting for the war or signing this stupid bill to sue a foreign country. Many of us knew that signing this would set a precedent for other foreign countries to sue the USA but not these fools? Maybe they thought the SCOTUS would deem it unconstitutional and override it giving them cover from the 9/11 families.

          • 86 99ts
            September 30, 2016 at 9:33 am

The media and the GOP will scream from the heavens that Sec Clinton hates 9/11 families if she supported PBO on this issue. This is the real problem with US politics. No-one thinks of consequences but the political fallout to being honest and understanding reality can have major impact.

Most countries have political campaigns that last 4-8 weeks. In the US they last 2 years and then start over – it’s a horrible cycle – a politician rarely gets time to put his/her ideas into action – too busy campaigning.

Only One Thing Seems to Hurt Trump
    by Martin Longman
    September 29, 2016 10:55 AM

It looks like the intelligence community is convinced that Russian spooks are trying to undermine confidence in the outcome of our presidential election. Trump and his advisors are unnaturally close to Russian (and Russia-allied) leaders. This would have been a bit of problem in any prior election. Does it matter in this one?

The country’s most famous Klansman, David Duke, says “The fact that Donald Trump’s doing so well, it proves that I’m winning. I am winning.” I was born in 1969. For my entire conscious life, this would have been a major liability for a presidential candidate. Is that still true?

Trump is such a pig that his Rancho Palos Verdes golf club has to take special measures to protect its female employees:

“When Trump did visit, the club’s managers went on alert. They scheduled the young, thin, pretty women on staff to work the clubhouse restaurant — because when Trump saw less-attractive women working at his club, according to court records, he wanted them fired.”

Will Trump’s objectification of women hurt him at the polls the way we’d expect it to?

I just watched this. Trump surrogates act as if he doesn’t have a choice as to what they talk about. If they believe that the conversation should be about jobs instead of Miss Universe, they should talk about jobs. Even though they say otherwise, Hillary Clinton *is* talking about jobs, education, infrastructure, etc. Trump is the one trying to keep the distracting topics going to take the focus from the fact that he has nothing.

Congress Does Something Stupid, Blames Obama
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    September 29, 2016 4:31 PM

This is one of those days when I really wish the American people paid attention to Congress.

Last May, the Senate passed a bill that would allow the families of victims of the 9/11 attacks to sue Saudi Arabia. The House passed it on September 9th. We all know that everyone in this country wants to do anything they can to support these families. But all along, President Obama has said why this bill wasn’t a good idea and has been clear that he would veto it.

On the day the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act passed the House, here is how Haroun Demirjian described the President’s concerns:

But bill supporters are bracing for a veto fight with the White House, which argues the bill could harm the United States’ relationship with Saudi Arabia and establish a legal precedent that jeopardizes American officials overseas.

Three days later, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said this in response to a question during his daily briefing about a potential veto.

“The way this bill is currently written exposes the U.S. … to significant risks in courts across the world,” Earnest added, repeating his boss’s rationale for his opposition to the measure. “The President believes that it’s important to look out for our country, our service members and our diplomats and allowing this bill to come into law would increase the risk that they face,” Earnest added.

On September 23rd, when President Obama did, in fact, veto the bill, here is part of what he wrote:

Enactment of JASTA could encourage foreign governments to act reciprocally and allow their domestic courts to exercise jurisdiction over the United States or U.S. officials — including our men and women in uniform — for allegedly causing injuries overseas via U.S. support to third parties. This could lead to suits against the United States or U.S. officials for actions taken by members of an armed group that received U.S. assistance, misuse of U.S. military equipment by foreign forces, or abuses committed by police units that received U.S. training, even if the allegations at issue ultimately would be without merit.

It’s really worth your time to read this short VOX article on DT’s pathology. Basically, DT has no belief system and no concept of facts. His language and every conversation is all about dominance and so he says and does anything that will give him the satisfaction of ‘besting’ the person he’s talking to. He will focus on anything he perceives as a slight even if the focus makes him appear petty to normal eyes. The only ‘core’ DT is an overriding need to come out the winner and those who try to put him in a losing posture or call him a ‘loser’ have to be destroyed. It’s his sole motivation.

They are such good men who have worked all of their adult lives to make other lives better, safer, more secure and more prosperous. They have done so with grace, heart, vision and strength. I am so grateful for their loving service and it is a wrenching pain to have to let them go, especially when I think of what could replace them.
