    Now this is forward thinking!!!

Fox Searchlight Pictures has announced it will team up with various theater chains and voter organizations to launch a voter registration drive tied to the release of its upcoming slave-revolt drama “The Birth of a Nation.”

The initiative will be launched at special advance screenings of the film on Tuesday in support of National Voter Registration Day and continue when the film opens on Oct. 7. Voter registration will be held in the lobbies of participating theaters, a number of which are in swing states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

My cousin just sent this to me. Wanted to share. I enjoy Propane Jane’s Twitter feed so much. Here is some backstory on her, for those (like me) who didn’t know it:

    From the article:
“My family would be the first to tell you that I’ve been an unrepentant motor mouth for pretty much the entirety of my almost 35 years on this earth. I was the kind of kid who wouldn’t just talk to my dolls, but would hold an Oprah-esque town hall with them to get down to the root of all their “problems.” Looking back now it only seems fitting that I find myself chatting up a storm online, but I assure you this wasn’t always in the cards. I never aspired to be a writer, blogger, or Twitter influencer; I wanted to be a healer. Ironically enough, it was my journey to become a physician that turned me into all of the above.”

Nebraska Cornhuskers linebacker Michael Rose-Ivey said he has received racially motivated backlash after he and two teammates knelt during the national anthem before Saturday’s game at Northwestern.

In a statement to reporters Monday, Rose-Ivey said he had been called the N-word on social media and threatened. Linebacker Mohamed Barry and defensive end DaiShon Neal knelt alongside Rose-Ivey during the anthem at Northwestern’s Ryan Field.

“Some believe DaiShon, Mohamed and myself should be kicked off the team or suspended, while some said we deserved to be lynched or shot like the other black people who have died recently,” Rose-Ivey said before collecting himself. “Another believed that since we didn’t want to stand for the anthem that we should be hung before the anthem at the next game.”

What is the purpose of Presidential Debates….With all the media available …have they outlived their usefulness…after all debates started before TV…before any kind of technology….

and the press has proven useless…they would rather allow lies to stand than to call them out.

When I say he’s trying to break the press, I mean the entire system that gives honest journalism a role in the republic. Trump is running against such basic notions as:

“we need a fact-based debate or there can’t be consent of the governed;”
“there’s a public record that cannot just be wiped away;”
“a candidate’s position on major issues should be made clear to the voters;”
“lying cannot become a universal principle in politics without major damage to our democracy.”

Not only is he running against such fundamentals, the continuity of which is assumed by all forms of campaign coverage, but journalists are the ones who understand best his assault on these basic principles. They’re living it every day. Of course, he’s running against them, too.

A political style that mocks the idea of a common world of facts — and gets traction with that view — is an attack on the very possibility of honest journalism. Campaign journalists have to find a way to oppose this style without becoming election-season opponents of Trump himself, which is not, I think, their proper role. Nothing in their training or tradition would have prepared them for this moment.

“McNesby (head of the Philly Police Union) says he has decided to take the political heat here at home, rather than incur the wrath of the FOP’s national bosses.

    he also said …
in a telephone interview, he said his hands are tied. That he and his lodge are prohibited by charter rule from taking a public position that differs from that of the national brass.

So at what point do you have the courage to take a hit knowing this campaign is very divisive?” said Bilal. (Officer Rochelle Bilal, the president of the Guardian Civic League, the 2,500-member organization of black police officers)

Good day ToD! 2012 debate days seemed crazy but nothing like we’re seeing today. I have kept the tv off and will until the debate begins. Think I might try the Bloomberg channel and see how their fact checking works.

I am not worried. Hillary has been preparing for this for 30+ years and will do fine. If she survived–and thrived–with 11 hours of the Trey Gowdy panel the Trump show and Lester Holt will not trip her up. As to Trump, I will be surprised if he makes it through 90 minutes without looking like a fool.

Second, the media finally seems to be absorbing what it has done. it seems genuinely shocked that Hillary is down by 10 pts on Trump for honesty. They do not want a Trump presidency, they will be toast as he blacklists one after the other. Accordingly, I do not expect them to be overly biased in favor of Trump in their debate coverage. I could be wrong, but we’ll see.

As to Lester Holt, he too does not want to look like a fool and to the extent Trump makes him look bad, he will correct him. The caveat to the woman from the Presidential Debates board is that IT IS UP TO THE MODERATOR on fact checking. This has gotten lost in translation.

Finally, it might be a very good night to donate to Hillary after the debate to show her some support. I cannot imagine the pressure on her today but have confidence in her.

Hope everyone is doing well. Nerdy, thank you maintaining this place of sanity when we need it most!!!!!! You are AMAZING!
