Oh my God.
Kirk Douglas (man, is he really 100?)
They say there is nothing new under the sun. Since I was born, our planet has traveled around it one hundred times. With each orbit, I’ve watched our country and our world evolve in ways that would have been unimaginable to my parents – and continue to amaze me with each passing year.
In my lifetime, American women won the right to vote, and one is finally the candidate of a major political party. An Irish-American Catholic became president. Perhaps, most incredibly, an African-American is our president today.
Until now, I believed I had finally seen everything under the sun. But this was the kind of fear-mongering I have never before witnessed from a major U.S. presidential candidate in my lifetime.
/
I have lived a long, good life. I will not be here to see the consequences if this evil takes root in our country. But your children and mine will be. And their children. And their children’s children.
All of us still yearn to remain free. It is what we stand for as a country. I have always been deeply proud to be an American. In the time I have left, I pray that will never change. In our democracy, the decision to remain free is ours to make.
My 100th birthday is exactly one month and one day after the next presidential election. I’d like to celebrate it by blowing out the candles on my cake, then whistling “Happy Days Are Here Again.”

The sound of the ringing of the bells is so beautiful
The Bonner Family…the bell ringing…so beautiful!
Apropos of the Museum opening today, the picture that will always haunt me.
Yes. Another incredibly iconic moment.
So glad Donna D is there. Apparently, all the bells in DC are ringing as well. What a magical moment.
Wanda is there also!
Okay TOD travelers, are we planning our trip for next June, July? to get together to visit the museum? Will we be able to purchase group tickets?
Who’s interested?
I am!
Yes! So am I Dakota. I hope we can get a group of us. It would be awesome 😊
Yes it would 😊
I would love to go too. What a trip that will be. Then we can make plans to go to the opening of the Obama Library.
love that name …TOD Travelers….
I am. Please include me in that list.
Had planned & signed up for the one you had this year but unexpected serious medical episode (resolved now) put me out of commission.
I hope one day I will be hosting a bunch of those interested in my country of birth, Uganda … that is my plan
Great Linda!
Yes, we can! Name the dates and I’ll start scouting hotels. I’m unavailable May 5th – 25th; June 1st – 5th, and June 26t – July 4th.
As soon as we pick a day, we can order group tickets for the museum. I’m in the process of booking a spring family/friends day trip.
YAY! Thanks Alycee. We should start an email list where those interested can email us, like last trip.
I’m on my way to do phone bank now and then on to jojo’s birthday party. But, tomorrow, I’ll be back on to work further on this!
Great! Yes, let’s start in interest/date availability email; however, I recommend that we wait until we get the 115th Congressional schedule before selecting our days. Would love to try to schedule a meeting with Rep John Lewis…
i like that idea…
We who are the TOD Travelers…how about Tshirts
You can count me in, too!
Good afternoon/evening TOD.
Now I have to go back to watch the ceremony.
I’m interested! I will try everything I can to not be sick then, I would love to be a part of this.
me…..
Hi GGail,
Running way, way behind. But count me in for the DC trip. I should be caught up by then 🙂 LOL.
Loving doing the data entry, 3 days a week for now. Being trained for “lead” position. Feels so good to be doing something so useful for HRC.
Hope you are well. More later. Gotta keep trying to get caught up.

Good morning/afternoon/evening TOD 🙂
The lessons for humanity in this photo are too numerous to ever count ….
#ALL50
#YesWeMUST …. because us white Americans OWE IT to EVERY SLAVE and all their descendants who built America’s agrarian wealth, who created music of exceptional beauty and diversity, who had the courage to never quit, who have always been the first to forgive, and who proved to every black, brown, yellow, red child on the planet that YES YOU CAN be whatever you strive to be … and if you die trying it’s way the hell better than to be under ‘the man’s shoe’ ….
Bob, beautiful words. Thank you {{{hugs}}}
Bobfr, you do understand. 🙂
Those ideals, to “have the courage to never quit, who have always been the first to forgive, and who proved to every black, brown, yellow, red child on the planet that YES YOU CAN be whatever you strive to be … and if you die trying it’s way the hell better than to be under ‘the man’s shoe’ ….” is what I teach my children.
Thank you, Bob.
I have always known from much of you say & share here, that you face complex challenges head on and you never forget to imagine what it feels like to walk in another person’s shoes.
thanks a lot for all and keep on pushing for a better day
Dear Gail, nospin, Jacqueline & gcLinda,
You have no idea how much your kindness means to me.
Thank you!!!
p.s. Jacqueline, I smile every time I think of Steve!!!!
bbl …. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS TO ALL OF YOU}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
BTW, before departing … all i can say is FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“In any normal election year, we’d compare the two presidential candidates side by side on the issues. But this is not a normal election year. A comparison like that would be an empty exercise in a race where one candidate — our choice, Hillary Clinton — has a record of service and a raft of pragmatic ideas, and the other, Donald Trump, discloses nothing concrete about himself or his plans while promising the moon and offering the stars on layaway. (We will explain in a subsequent editorial why we believe Mr. Trump to be the worst nominee put forward by a major party in modern American history.)”
Bob, it goes without saying, that we would LOVE having you in our group when we tour the museum next year 😊
Yes, yes, yes.
Thank you jazz, Susanne, Marilyn & Gail!!!
Gail, if I can possibly make it, I will!!! 🙂 That’s such a lovely invitation!!!
Thank you, Bob! You’re a true ally. I appreciate and often quote you… ❤
beautiful, bobfr

Congrats, to all the Gold ⭐ winners, starting with this post and 2 posts back.
Thank you, gcl:) Seems it was the cookies:)
I am very happy it helped.
A few weeks ago, I got the same problem too and I was very frustrated … until I Googled my question.
I am grateful for all those who share information to the public because it is hard to know if and when someone will need to use it
AMEN!
President Obama’s Full Speech
FYI….maybe some of you on social media can ask some necessary questions!

What a transcendent post! Nerdy, no one live-tweets events better than you. Heartfelt thanks. Looking forward to visiting this museum in early December.
Mr. Cuban’s presence should have been a surprise – it better not to reveal all the cards you have in your hands
Just what I said! Damn, “loose lips, sink ships…”
Good day TOD. What an emotional day and beautiful ceremony. No other president could have spoken as PBO did to underscore our collective history. The one discordant note for me was Justice Roberts. I wondered, as I watched, how he could justify gutting the VRA and then speak about history and court decisions at this museum. Shame on him.
If anyone missed it (or their DVR was set for long enough, as in my case) C-Span will re-air the ceremony tonight at 8:00 edt on cspan3 I again have my dvr set so hopefully it will not cut off in the middle of POTUS’ speech which I want to save.
Must admit I am feeling somewhat battered with the discordant notes floating around in the news. From the beauty of this ceremony to the pain in Charlotte and Tulsa and so many other places. I was incensed last night when one of the stations running in the background had an ex-cop on about the shooting at the mall in WA. He was bemoaning another weekend when “Americans” can’t feel safe in their daily lives. I wanted to shout at him, and what about the two AA men who were needlessly gunned down in the last few days, what about their “American safety”? for too many white Americans, it simply is not registering. We need to change that.
we still have a lot of work to do
Great news …….
New post.

One of the best kept secrets. President Obama and President GW Bush are friends.
