      I saw a local interview with Kaep where he was asked about the many death threats he’s received. He responded if he is killed, then so be it. It will only substantiate his claims. He was very cavalier about it. THAT really saddened me.

    Thanks NW – everyone smiles with PBO

    I noticed on LGF discussion that went
    Everyone is saying the protests should be peaceful, we allow peaceful protests
    But what happened when Kaepernick kneeled in peaceful protest – that was an insult to his country and the military. He should not do that.

    We white folks have NO idea about the reality faced by people with black skin every day of their lives

    yeah, yeah, I have mentioned this here a couple of times – the FOP’s endorsement of the homegrown demagogue ;

    it is not because I was surprised since I know the common political leanings of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) over the years;

    my incredulity resulted from the times we live in & the candidate the FOP chose to endorse;

    anyone who has given some consideration to the implication of this endorsement most likely has been struck by the fact that it an in-your-face challenge (FU, middle finger) to all those who protest police brutality and seek to reform the law enforcement practices ;

    the FOP could have chosen not to endorse anyone;

    I am glad to see that some members of the police force are equally perplexed and do not agree with the FOP’s endorsement;

        this same nonsense led us to the gop take over of the house, senate. governorships, state legislatures;

        it also led to laws and gerrymandering that will impact generations

    Completely off topic

    I just experienced an emergency medical situation that shows how well a medical. system can operate when all things work together. We have a 2 tier system (bad) where there is single payer for all, but you can pay additional insurance for private hospital treatment. We choose to pay the extra.

    Tuesday about midday I went to the emergency room at local private hospital (covered by the insurance). Saw a doctor within 30 minutes. After examination/discussion he contacted a specialist who was currently operating in the hospital. Between surgeries he came to check me out. Ordered a scan. Came back, checked the scan – 6pm I was added to his list, 7pm operation & by 9pm I was in the ward. Scare during the night & nurses called the registrar in – took about 3 minutes for him to arrive.

    Two days later I’m home, sad, sorry, pills so big I choke on them – but on the mend. Other than insurance the total cost to us will be no more than $500 and probably much less.

    I’m thinking how amazing if it could always work this way – for everyone.

      OMG, 99ts, so glad to hear you are recuperating. And grateful you have good healthcare. Please take good care.

    • September 22, 2016 at 1:39 pm

      gooooood to know that you are well….when things happen seemlessly…you thank your lucky stars….

      our health system does not always work as great but i bet all the folks who now have insurance who did not before …are grateful just the same….sometimes those of us who have always had insurance do not really know what it is like to not have insurance….

      Health Care is a right…not a privilege!

      Take care of yourself 99

      So glad you’re okay!

      It it immensely important that when faced with a medical emergency, you don’t have the stress of wondering whether you will get the care you need. The U.S. is a travesty when it comes to health care. We’ve made some progress under PBO, and Hillary’s progress with children’s health coverage and against obscene GOP obstruction. But we have a long way to go to join civilized society.

      Again, my friend, I’m just relieved that you’re okay and you got the health care you needed.

        This was above what usually happens in my world – why I wanted to mention it. I am now in the midst of having “issues” claiming the government rebates – no problems with the insurance, they pay the provider directly – I never even get to find out the cost (which sometimes I would like to know) – but the government – closed all the offices where you can go to get refunds and won’t accept this claim online, so it will take weeks through the post. My member and the minister about to get an earful.

        ty Judith – the politics of recent times have been disturbing (to say the least) so I’m thinking it was a call to put my mind to other things for a short while – a couple of days away from the media with a good medical result was sure a positive outcome.

    she is the very informed woman who was quoted in The Guardian today saying crazy stuff like :

    … there was no racism before PBO;

    … if African Americans are not doing well after 50 years …. then it is their fault because they were given everything

    … the reason there is low voter turn out in the African American community is because of how they were raised

    It is always the Black families that are asked to speak out to quiet a community after their loved one has been killed by the police. Black mothers and black fathers have to grieve the murder of their child and then are asked to somehow soothe a community that has lost another one of her citizens by the actions of a policeman that didn’t see that citizen as a human being in the first place. You kill us then you want our family to hush a grieving community. You want black people to act in a way that borders on insanity; you want us to accept the killing of our brothers and sisters by the very people that are there to protect them. And then you want us to not question how or why our sisters and brothers have been killed. You want us to continue to accept this treatment that no other race of people has been asked to accept. And then when we question this treatment you want to label us as trouble makers. It is 2016 and Black people still have to sing “We shall overcome.” Some of us are tired of singing, why are we the only people that have to sing that song? White people don’t have to sing it, no other group of people has ever had to sing that song, and they never did. We learned that song before we learned “Marry had a little lamb,” or “London Bridge is falling down.” This is the insanity that Black people have to endure, and somehow we’re supposed to hold hands and sing songs about our salvation, like singing a song about your salvation in the face of injustice is some normal shit. You shoot us down in the streets like dogs, oh um ok, how about you guys sing “We shall overcome.” When are we supposed to overcome? Someday the song goes, someday.

      Yet, kids, mothers, fathers, etc., from affluent backgrounds are not at fault because they were just raised too wealthy to understand the consequences of bad behavior. Poor people are raised to understand the consequences of their bad behavior because they should have experience with the judicial institutions from birth.
