I just posted a question on the last blog. Does anyone know whether the Vanity Fair interview with PBO and Doris Kearns Goodwin in the magazine has already come out or will be coming out in November? I bought the Essence magazine today and wanted to get the Vanity Fair magazine too. The current VF magazine has Bruce Springsteen on the cover is the October issue with no PBO interview in it. I loved what I read online yesterday, but want the magazine now.

Mel Brooks – if you weren’t 90 years old, that stunt would be totally rude. So many of those recipient ladies and a few of the gentlemen were just verklempt at meeting President Obama!

Just read the article Amk shared earlier today about a matrilineal society and it led me to this one. It’s encouraging to see change gra-du-al-ly sneaking its way (aided by travel) into different societies/orders/cultures…..

    // ………………………………

These are the Kung-Fu nuns: Nepal’s only female order to practice the deadly martial art made famous by Bruce Lee. In the inherently patriarchal Buddhist monastic system, women are considered inferior to men. Monks usually occupy all positions of leadership, leaving nuns to the household duties and other tedious chores. But in 2008, the leader of the 1,000-year-old Drukpa lineage, His Holiness The Gyalwang Drukpa, changed all that.

After a visit to Vietnam where he saw nuns receiving combat training, he decided to bring the idea back to Nepal by encouraging his nuns to learn self-defence.
His simple motive: to promote gender equality and empower the young women, who mostly come from poor backgrounds in India and Tibet.
Every day, 350 nuns, aged between 10 and 25, take part in three intense training sessions where they practice the exercises taught to them by their teacher, who visits twice a year from Vietnam.

Good evening, TOD! TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY! Felt well enough today to do my whole errand loop… Scored three copie each of Essence, InStyle, and Vogue; two copies of March 3 by John Lewis, Hillary and Tim’s Stronger Together, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Writings on the Wall. Dig my heart good to piss off a trumpster customer service rep in the Delaware Barnes and Noble. Asked about Essence — do they carry it, sold out, not in yet, etc. She was pleasant until I said POTUS & FLOTUS were on the cover; then her answers got clipped and she walked away. Hell NO! Wait, I’m not finished, more questions; short answers; so I said please look it up. Excuses to each question; then I asked, can she look up how many have been sold in the last 10 days — that would give me a feel for whether or not the mag had come in and sold out… Pissed her off! We walk over to the computer and she feigned not being able to pull it up; I then asked her to call the Broomall PA store; her response — they won’t hold mags. CALL ANYWAY! She did, they had it, OFFERED to hold, I then asked for three copies! PISSED HER OFF!!!! Then had her look up and find their last copy of March. Was just short of rude… I love folks like that, make them do their job while I give them the “You’ll do as I ask smile.” Today wasn’t the day, and I’m not the person she wanted to F with…

The Broomall B&N was the exact opposite, my mags were waiting at Will Call, and as I was having a bout of weeziness, asked them to have someone bring a copy of March to the register. No problem, they not only did they do it with a smile, they offered additional assistance.

Hillary’s office is in the same shopping center; dropped in to say “HI!”

Off to read all I missed today. BBL

Oh yeah, scored a suite on a sold out 2018 Scandinavian-Baltic jazz cruise. Pre-sale was last Wednesday; sold out same day! Of course, I was sick and not dialing for a cabin…

Just got off the phone with my Mom, she is over the moon; her prayer is that God continues to grant her good health as she’s never imagined she’s travel to the places we’ve gone the last eight years. Our May 2017 cruise departs from Venice, Italy; she’s planning her wardrobe… She’s happy, so I’m happy!

she clearly didn’t know who she was messing with!

people like that disgust me because she chose to try and make her personal political preferences a priority to serving her customer – yet I suspect the money from the sale of the merchandise is important to maintaining her basic livelihood

      • September 23, 2016 at 3:10 am

Just so happens an assistant manager was at the register area when I checked out. Mentioned to her that I was a frequent customer and for the first time had encountered an employee who’s customer service skills & demeanor was far below what I normally experienced. I allowed that maybe she was just having a bad day, however, if I ever experience such treatment again, I’ll take my $$$ elsewhere and encourage my net to do the same…

        I’m a firm believer in economic boycotts…

The GOP ALWAYS wants violence in an election year – allows them to scare out all the “law and order” freaks to vote for them.

Watched some of the local news coverage of the Aston rally; saw several of my neighbors — the usual suspects. I’ll be at the polls from opening to closing; election day is going to be fun…

          • September 23, 2016 at 3:31 am

Oh, I will. My town of 2,800 has only one precinct. Met last night to plan election day logistics and staffing. All of the folks working the table and machines have been at it for years and are not going to be intimidated. Not only will I be an official poll watcher, I’ll be there to diffuse an situation that might arise if trump’s “election protection” goons show up. 2004, ’08, and ’12, RNC interference squad showed up; we sent them packing…

I don’t feel bad for Pence, but I do find it interesting that some Republican seem to recoil in horror at the things that Trumps says. Its as if they are finally hearing the vileness of all of their arguments and they are saying to themselves is this what we really stand for.

    —–excerpt———

Let’s cut to the chase: Donald Trump is a liar. He doesn’t stretch the truth, misspeak, shoot from the hip, tell it like it is, refreshingly unvarnish or have his own version. He lies. He has no relationship to the truth.

Truth should be important. His campaign is built on lies. His proposition is a series of lies. Americans should have a problem with that.

Each and every one of Trump’s surrogates are liars—morally vapid validators, town criers doing the dirty work of the village idiot. I don’t care how poised, slick or sleek some acting coach’s version of sophisticated they are. They push his lies in an attempt to normalize his message and persona, using the fascist technique of repetition equals truth.

Why so many people prostrate themselves before Trump is something that I will never understand. My only hope is that after the November election he crawls back under the rock from which he came.

    • September 23, 2016 at 9:14 am

but the ugliness that has been unleashed by 8 years of Obstruction from the GOP and Trump’s candidacy will remain…it is not like the ugliness of racism and hatred did not exist before this…it did…but what is different is how the GOP and Trump along with their allies in the media have made hatred and racism acceptable…have made it OK to hate… to say racist and hateful things about people….has made it OK to be a racist and to hate people…to not see the common humanity that we all share…..

this will be even more difficult to combat if we do not crush Trumpism in the fall…regain control of the Senate and make inroads in the House…we also have to be ready to fight to regain the state legislatures…so our fight will not be done after November 8…it will be just starting…

I wish that were true but I think our sorry MSM will continue to follow his every word because they’re addicted to his asinine filthy mouth.
But I will be glad if we can get through one day without his ugly face plastered everywhere we turn. UGH.

I tend to think if Trump loses the press might treat him like they did McCain going to Trump for critiques and advice every time Hillary makes a decision. However, they could just ignore him like they did with Romney.

      from the Article…

The TPP’s opponents bring a great deal of experience and intellectual firepower to the trade debate, and they certainly understand that China represents our major trade challenge. Yet, ironically, their scorched earth opposition to TPP would bring about much the same results as Donald Trump’s dangerously ignorant trade policies.

Court Rules That Denying People Jobs Because of Their Dreadlocks Is Legal

A company called Catastrophe Management Solutions has been fighting a lawsuit launched by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over whether or not they can discriminate against people with dreadlocks in their hiring process. They can.

The suit was filed on behalf of Chastity Jones, a black woman with dreadlocks, who had her offer of a job at the company’s Mobile, Alabama, branch rescinded when they saw her hair. According to NBC News, an HR manager named Jeannie Wilson told Jones that dreadlocks were against company grooming policy, saying, “They tend to get messy, although I’m not saying yours are, but you know what I’m talking about,” when Jones came in to discuss scheduling conflicts during a private hiring meeting.

The name of the company is ironic given that it implies that they can handle a catastrophe, but in reality they couldn’t even handle a prospective employee wearing dreadlocks. I guess in their view cultural diversity or inclusion is not a good thing.

    Good Morning TOD Family.

Hope everyone is well and happy.

I have been having a sad couple weeks. Not only did I lose a wonderful cousin, I found out that a dear friend of mine also passed away. Add in these police shootings and the usual B.S. we have to contend with, it’s been hard keeping uplifted. I try to look for the positives during time like this.

I so appreciated Alycee’s account of her encounter with the rude store clerk and how she made her do her job. I went into a Walgreen’s yesterday that I had never been in and asked the clerk where the magazine section was. He told me and I went over, found the Essence magazine and brought it back to pay for it. The clerk picked it up to scan and said, “Alright now” and I said, “Oh yes.” Little things, but great things that can make a person’s day.

(((((Dakota))))) I am so sorry for your losses, of your cousin and your friend. And yes the little things are exactly what can make the difference in our days.

We lost our 10 yr old kitty.. Tiger of the huge presence and personality.. just had a strange out of the blue seizure on Sept. 1 and passed away, breaking our hearts. A family friend was diagnosed with cancer on Sept 8., shattering her world. Our neighborhood is a mess, too many people hurting here. And all the horrors that folks are visiting upon one another.. have made my days difficult too. The police abuse has really gotten to me, as I know it has millions worldwide, I find it almost insurmountable.

But then as you say.. some days, a kind word or gesture of humanity, respect.. plain old good manners- can give us hope and a smile to see the sun with all these clouds.

      Take care..

Thank you sherijr. Saying a prayer for your friend. My condolences to you on the loss of your Tiger. I know how hard the loss of a pet can be on a family.

You are so right. Every day won’t be sunshine and rainbows, but every day that we’re here is a blessing.

So sorry for your losses, Dakota.

    • September 23, 2016 at 9:33 pm

Dakota, so sorry for your losses; my condolences to, and prays for you and their families. It can be draining dealing with the normal ebb and flow of life; the current unrest in our country and worldwide is an added burden. Glad you are trying to find the positives. We will get through this! This too shall pass!

Loved hearing of your Walgreen’s experience; love meeting “like” minds in the general population. Reassures us that we are not alone…
