I’m going to ask a stupid question:

Who the fuck are they polling?

It’s certainly not me, nor anyone I know.

Is it only people who still answer their land lines who don’t have caller ID, or are so excited when the phone rings, they don’t care if it’s a telemarketer or a robot-call?

I never answer the phone if I don’t recognize the number. They’ll leave a message if it’s important.

    • 19 carolyn
      September 15, 2016 at 8:37 pm

That is the question I frequently ask also. And, I, also don’t answer the phone unless I know the caller. I think many people are like that, and so the results of polling are weird.

    • 20 idon
      September 15, 2016 at 8:59 pm

This is the same polling results they had for Romney during the same period in 2012. They’re wingnut polls

      September 15, 2016 at 9:16 pm

I get weird calls from OOS numbers all day long and don’t answer the phone if I don’t recognize the number. When they get my voice mail they hang up. When I do answer someone is trying to sell be solar panels. Maybe they are going by online polls?

    • 22 Obama Grandmama
      September 15, 2016 at 9:35 pm

At one time I thought they just made up the numbers to get the bandwagon effect from uncommitted voters. Now I think they actually do the polls, but either lead the person answering with their question wording or tone of voice or order of questions upon asking to elicit the answers they want. I also think they have lists of people or phone numbers that will give them the results they want at the time they want it.

    • 23 GGAIL
      September 15, 2016 at 10:47 pm

Way back when I had a landline, I participated in many polls, but, now I just have a cell number and haven’t received not a one.

    • September 15, 2016 at 11:12 pm

A number of commentators on twitter have noted that the changes in polls are mainly due to the switch to a 2004 likely voter screen. So they are configuring the sample to a turnout pattern that ignores the Obama coalition. In 2012 the polls were off most of the last few weeks for the same reason, Gallup eventually had to apologize because they missed it so badly, The other factor is this, about the only polls with any validity are live calls that include a large proportion, at least half, cell phones, since most people don’t use landlines or ignore the landline calls they get. A large number of pollster now are doing landline robocalls, or online polls. Those are garbage. It was pointed out to me that of the last three major live polls, which had results with much larger Clinton leads when RVs (registered voters) are measured. There’s this from Armando (daily kos editor)

Bringing this over from end of last thread.
Interesting piece on PBS about Delaware County, OH. Interviewed Trump and Clinton supporters. Trump supporters quickly reveal their uninformed selves. Mainly T because they are Republicans and have always voted that way. One guy, however, has voted R since 1984 but is voting for Johnson. Says T is only for T!!!! No way he will vote for Clinton. HIllary’s supporters, both younger women with kids, talked about how she has always worked for women and children and how steady and dependable and hard worker she is.

Recently, I had the same problem – not being able to run YouTube videos.

I Googled it as a question and I found this answer which worked for me (I use Microsoft Edge as my browser) : you need to delete the cookies. I had not done so since I started using Edge months ago.

the response gives you alternative steps to follow depending on your browser.

        • September 16, 2016 at 8:25 am

The more I think about it, I’m wondering the same, susanne and amk. Why would it be significant for Trump, of all people, to thank the church for what they are doing for the community when he obviously could care less. Perhaps the church members are asking the same question(s).

          • 62 Obama Grandmama
            September 16, 2016 at 3:23 pm

The church was being used as a water station and Trump asked to go there to (photo op) thank the workers. Just like unloading the Playdough in Baton Rouge. The minister said only if there is no political talk. Trump is soooo good at keeping his word. I was proud of her stopping him. There are so many journalists and media heads that buckle under. My thoughts are when Ivanka walks out, Eric, Donald Jr, KellyAnn or even Donald T the media interviewers should point out how the interview is not unlike any past Presidential candidates have had to do. Hillary can use the clips for her thin skinned meme and maybe the campaign will not be able to manipulate the press any more. Maybe they can quit giving them interviews due to their walking out. It is like they think they are above others and do not need to answer questions.

Former president Jimmy Carter spoke out about his “embarrassment” over the direction of the presidential race at a Thursday summit of Baptist leaders held in Atlanta, Georgia.

Carter urged the leaders to take action against the fallout from the “reservoir of racism” that had been tapped into by the Donald Trump presidential campaign, according to the Associated Press.

The former Democratic president criticized anyone who would dare remain quiet when seeing racism and discrimination such as is peddled by Donald Trump, saying that such a person thus accepts “discrimination and animosity and hatred and division.”

They are losing it everyday Meta. They have squandered any last shred of credibility in the way they have covered Trump, and the daily shit they dump on Clinton. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but the shit show this weekend over her health was absolutely unbelievable, I don’t ever recall a weekend where they went after PBO the way they did with her these last few days. Initially, I thought it was the misogyny was worse than the racism, then I thought it was the Clintons but I’ve rejected both of those. It’s like they know they are failing with Trump so are piling on her worse than ever to show they are doing something. In the process, they are completely losing the public.

      • September 16, 2016 at 8:56 am

The Rev Wright situation was pretty damn bad. But now we’re at the point with our media that they constant replaying of a negative event, in a continuous loop over several days, is like hypnotism. Trying to sway public opinion with relentless propagandistic mantras.

In Georgia, the governor asked the EPA for a special waiver to allow stations to make the switch over from the summer to the winter fuel blends now instead of later so they would have access to more gas quicker, thereby avoiding those outages.

Look, this is absolutely bonkers, taking politics well past through-the-looking-glass territory. Trump saw the birth certificate in 2011, but proceeded to question Obama’s citizenship in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Now that he wants to president, however, Trump expects Americans to believe he’s changed his mind?

There’s no reason to believe the Republican’s apparent reversal should resolve the matter. Trump should explain why and when he reversed course; why last night’s statement is filled with such brazen dishonesty; why he’s now persuaded by a birth certificate he dismissed years after its release; why Trump hasn’t himself said out loud what his “communications advisor” put in a press release; and when he’ll apologize for his racist antics.

Should Democrats Be Nervous About the Presidential Election?
    by Nancy LeTourneau
    September 15, 2016 10:26 AM

In August, the presidential election was looking like a Clinton landslide. This month, the race has tightened and some people are suggesting that Democrats should be nervous. Here’s Ed Kilgore:

Those who have laughed off Donald Trump’s chances while believing his election would represent a turn for the worse in their own lives should be nervous right now.

On the other hand, Sam Wang says otherwise.

My reason for generating the best prediction I can is to reduce the noise of campaign news. I thought it would clear mental space for thinking about policies, or downticket issues…

Because of intense polarization, few voters are movable. The calculation says that Clinton’s win probability is 90%…

Still, the comment section is still peppered with anxious questions about Clinton’s chances. Honestly, some liberals can be total ninnies.

Wang says Clinton’s probability of winning is 90%. The Upshot has it at 76%. FiveThirtyEight says its at 64%. In other words, none of them are saying that Trump has more than a 36% chance of winning. Those are not great odds for him. If this were any other presidential election in recent memory, it would constitute pretty good news for Democrats. But coming off the talk about a landslide, it has some people worried.

Much of that concern comes from the fact that polling in swing states has tightened. So let’s take a look at that. Here is Sam Wang’s latest electoral map.

    • September 16, 2016 at 9:22 am

The media is suggesting that Democrats should be nervous. They are shoring up that claim by putting out daily polls that show dramatic shifts…shifts that seem to occur in a matter of hours; not over days or weeks. They will show a poll with HRC ahead 4 or 5 points and then a *different* poll (with different sampling although they don’t say this) showing DT ahead.

It’s the media that’s saying we should be nervous, HRC is in trouble, cherry picking for negatives that they can loop 24/7, critiquing each speech, and on and on. We learned during the 2008 elections that distract and discourage is the tactic that is used and is in a way a form of voter suppression. While we take note of these, instead of letting it have it’s intended result, we can instead exhale, shake it off, and let it motivate us even more to work for a Hillary Clinton victory.

  57. September 16, 2016 at 9:07 am

Question: Is Trump *really* being audited? That question blindsided Kellyanne Conway who lashed out like a cornered animal. Big time pivoting.

During an interview with Conway on CNN’s New Day, Camerota noted that Trump had refused to release his tax returns because he was being audited, and asked the campaign manager if she would provide a letter from the IRS to prove he was under audit.

“I don’t know,” Conway shrugged. “Why? Are you calling him a liar?”

    • 150 Obama Grandmama
      September 16, 2016 at 3:55 pm

Funny how KellyAnne goes right back to transparency in her sum up last sentence after not answering any questions giving transparency on her candidate during the entire interview. She is a fast talker, deflecting *itch. Wonder why all the commentators praise her?

      • September 16, 2016 at 3:59 pm

I know, OG. When she first became Trump’s campaign manager, she was getting lots of praise from the media; that she was media friendly.

I guess being a Trump spokesperson when you have no clue what he’s thinking, or when he’s liable to flip-flop from one hour to the next, puts a strain on a body. But I’m sure she’s getting paid well for it. If she’s not, she’s an idiot for doing it.
