A librarian has left $4m (£3m) in his will to the US university where he worked for five decades.

Robert Morin, who died in 2015 at the age of 77, left the sum to the University of New Hampshire (UNH) where he had a job as a cataloguer.

Friends said they were unaware he had amassed a multi-million-dollar fortune from shrewd investments, until he bequeathed it to the university.

This week, UNH officials announced the donation after it had cleared Probate Court.

Beautiful farewell. Loved how he spoke of feeling at home in Asia, with memories of all his travels as President, and of his childhood years in Indonesia, his family connections — what a person of grace, generosity, integrity and humanity. Safe travels Mr. President. I am so glad he made this journey, and I am worn out by/ his schedule. He spoke so many times, went to so many meetings and events and sipped coconut juice and toured temples and walked the quiet lanes and worked with his leader colleagues on world business. Dang! He better be resting up on Air Force One. Thank you Secret Service, pilots, service people, Pete Souza, all the ones who love him get and take care of him daily. We are so blessed. A magnificent log of these journeys, 20,000 miles, you saw us through every mile Nerdy/ Wonka. Thank you.

Nerdy, you have provided absolutely fantastic coverage of the President’s trip—second to no other media source in the country. Thanks to you, we’ve all virtually traveled with our President, experienced his interactions, and listened to his speeches and press conferences. Seeing what our magnificent President has done in the last nine days has given us all a sense of peace that as long as PBO is in charge, all is right with the country and the world. His greatness also provides the incentive we need to do everything it takes to preserve his legacy after January 20. He’s worked so hard for us and given so much, we can’t let him down now when he needs us.

I am thinking about our beloved, honored, and cherished Ms.Chipsticks tonight, as this dazzling, precious journey by our President comes to a triumphant close. Sending Chips gratitude for this irreplaceable treasured place to gather, listen, learn, commune, laugh, grumble, weep, and celebrate and more, in the community house that Chips built. May she feel our love and gratitude, and find comfort as she grieves the profound loss. We are here in the village because Chips made the place for us. Never needed it more. Grateful to everyone here, especially those who have given time and energy to it, in words, actions, or just quiet connection. We are so lucky to be here. Thank you Chips!

      • September 9, 2016 at 9:11 am

That’s true, Susanne. Trump has bragged numerous times about paying off/bribing a lot of people and even indicated that it may be for *future* demands.

There may be a lot of people who wish he hadn’t run for office, because although DT might escape with a figurative slap on the wrist, those he dealt with may experience harsher consequences.

After months of laboring in obscurity and waiting on paychecks that did not arrive, most of Donald Trump’s Washington policy shop quit, with some telling the Washington Post they decided to jump ship after realizing the GOP nominee wasn’t interested in immersive debate prep.

Some staffers said the last straw came following two marathon sessions in early August to plan how to prepare Trump for the upcoming presidential debates, but the campaign abruptly shifted strategies. One former staffer told the paper, “The New York office realized that their candidate would not be receptive to that level of intense preparation.”

The campaign’s interest in policy details quickly waned when Trump secured the party’s nomination after staffers had anticipated a long primary brawl to continue to the summer convention.

Ex-staffers also said the policy shop’s leaders, Sen. Jeff Sessions’ (R-AL) chief of staff Rick Dearborn and John Mashburn, former chief of staff for Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), promised they would be paid for their efforts, but the promise was never put in writing. Another former adviser said Corey Lewandowski, the former campaign manager turned CNN contributor, also promised compensation.

Behind the scenes, NBC execs concede Matt Lauer forum performance was “disaster”

      • 53 hopefruit2
        September 9, 2016 at 9:06 am

Sorry, but I’m not falling for this charade from NBC. They KNEW exactly what they wanted to happen, and Matt Lauer’s performance was signed, sealed and approved by every NBC executive producer of the forum. This after-the-fact PR stunt is just what they’re putting out to make themselves appear reasonable now that the public is complaining. But deep down, they are happy with what Lauer did, and we likely won’t see any negative consequences for him.

    • September 9, 2016 at 8:06 am

They *were* used. I think it was just subterfuge to put HRC on the hot seat about her emails.

When i listened to the aftershow (Rachel Maddow), it appeared that there were very few questions that were asked that was of interest to the veterans. Did they even get input from the veterans about the questions that should have been asked? The veterans that asked the questions were reading them…as if they were given a script to make sure they got the desired end result.

      • 56 Ladyhawke
        September 9, 2016 at 8:39 am

Rachel Maddow and MSNBC breathlessly promoted this Commander-In-Chief Forum for weeks. It was breaking news. Both candidates on the same stage for the first time, blah, blah blah. Apparently, Paul Rieckhoff (IAVA) and his group were concerned that throughout the campaign there had not been enough discussion of vets and military issues. I was expecting in-depth questions specifically related to the VA and the military in general. I was shocked when Matt Lauer spent over 10 minutes grilling Hillary about the emails (and in an accusatory tone no less). It was as if she was on trial. It was infuriating. Rachel’s go to person to complain about veterans issues is Paul Rieckhoff. I still wonder how much input he had in the forum. I’m glad to see the some veterans speaking about about their disappointment.

        • 57 Don
          September 9, 2016 at 8:49 am

The one thing I notice about Paul Rieckhoff is that loves playing the “both sides” game. He knows goddamn well that the Republicans haven’t done a goddamn thing for veterans when it comes to homelessness, healthcare and jobs.

          • September 9, 2016 at 9:05 am

I felt the same, Don. Is it a crime to acknowledge what Democrats have done or are trying to do when you can’t say the same about Republicans? Is it just easier to act as if neither are doing anything?

          • 59 Ladyhawke
            September 9, 2016 at 9:10 am

Exactly. I don’t remember him making any positive comments about the Obama administration accomplishments. POTUS can never do enough. If he ever gets close to saying anything positive there is always a BUT and some implication that (fill in the blank issue) is a problem with BOTH SIDES.

ff, mcangry tried to cut the vet benefits while the first and second families worked their bones off for these ingrate mofos.

        • September 9, 2016 at 8:56 am

I expected more. I definitely expected more than 1 hour…30 minutes for each candidate.

When you have something to say — as HRC did — it’s hard to condense it still effectively express what you want to say; especially with someone yelling at you to hurry up.

    • September 9, 2016 at 8:19 am

It seemed that Matt Lauer was waiting for a trigger word — *judgment* — to start lobbing email questions. Hillary didn’t use that word in her description of a CIC, but Lauer used her description to insert the “trigger” so that he could attack.

He needs to pull it in a bit); young, not-so-young, Black, White, Asian, and Latino all smiling and getting as close to her as they can. Her rallies, as PBO’s did, look like the real America. Especially for Texans that want to vote…. (Bonus* She has such a great turn of a phrase:) KNOW THE RULES! CUZ YOUR STATE SURE WON’T HELP YOU!

I am ready to put something on Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that even Ajax won’t take off.

The courts have said that a voter in Texas should not have to have two IDs, a set of fingerprints, and their mother to swear to their birth in order to vote. And they also said that Texas has to inform and educate voters of the “relaxed ID laws.”

    Holy crap. Look at this.

The federal government is accusing Texas of circulating “inaccurate or misleading information” to poll workers and would-be voters about relaxed identification requirements for the November elections.

Oh wait, Texas would try to mislead voters? Would a one legged duck swim in a circle? Would a 50 pound sack of flour make a big biscuit?

    Oh hell, yeah.

When it’s all about you and you can’t see the potential fallout from your actions…

In the past, Trump has threatened to cancel the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), claiming it was bad policy that hurt the U.S. manufacturing industry. If Trump were to do this, however, Piter’s bill would trigger a review and possible cancelation of all of the bilateral agreements between Mexico and the U.S.

The bill Piter is proposing would specifically cancel the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican-American War and ceded Texas and California as well as parts of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming to the U.S. if Trump cancels NAFTA.

“The goal is to foresee and prevent any negative effects on Mexico if Trump becomes president of the United States,” he said.

If enacted, the bill would also ban public funds from being used by the finance ministry if it is “against the country’s interest.”…would also prevent the country from paying for Trump’s border wall that he vehemently demands the country supply.
