Mexican Finance Minister Luis Videgaray has resigned following the visit of Donald Trump last week.

Mr Videgaray was seen as the main organiser of the controversial meeting between Mr Trump and President Enrique Pena Nieto.

The visit was widely criticised by Mexicans both in the national press and on social media.

A spokesperson for the ministry said Mr Videgaray would not take on another public office.

This really hits home; directly behind my house is a neighborhood, built as “deed restricted” after WWII. It wasn’t until 2000 that a house was sold to a Black family…

How the policy of Racial Redlining created wealthy white suburbs and Black Ghettos

The Hood didn’t just pop up due to bad circumstances IT WAS CREATED by white supremacists. Housing policy is rooted in racism and controlling the access that black families have to land and wealth.

“North Carolina early-voting cuts could dampen black vote”

Election officials in nearly two dozen North Carolina counties have approved reductions in early-voting hours ahead of November’s elections, cuts that Democrats warn could disenfranchise many low-income voters.

County boards of elections have approved reducing early-voting hours in 23 of North Carolina’s 100 counties. Another eight counties plan to end early voting on the Sunday before Election Day, when a huge number of African-American voters tend to go to the polls.

This so reminds me of the 2008 campaign in our country. I recall telling my son that if candidate Obama walked down my street and came over to talk to me, I’d have a very fast heart attack but that he should know “I died happy.”

This past year, I had an epiphany about Hillary Clinton.

My problem had always been that the power of the Clintons and their friends within the democratic party made things more difficult for Barack Obama in the first years of his presidency; he was considered “lesser” in certain circles and things took time to heal.

before the national convention, I had been impressed by how Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Jon Favreau and others praised Hillary. And during the convention, I learned about her early years in public service. I’ve seen the testimonies of suffering people who are grateful for Hillary’s help and support BEHIND THE SCENES, FAR FROM THE CAMERAS. I’ve realized how much the “narrative” about her has been fabricated by the conservative propaganda machine AND the national media. In case of the media, I don’t really know the reason. Were they caught up in the republican narrative ? Is there misogyny at work ? An history that dates back to the 90s, when Hillary didn’t “know her place” as a first lady and was seen as too political ???

Anyway, the negative narrative and the constant suspicion about Hillary is totally disproportionate. And she is obviously held to a totally different standard and is not allowed the tiniest deviation from the ideal. My goodness, I wondering if they’re treating her even worse than the President.

I consider her bad approval numbers as a profound injustice.

    • September 8, 2016 at 6:56 am

HRC keeps getting beaten up for trying to answer questions about her email that the media continues to throw at her; that she should just say, “asked and answered,” and move on. When it comes to the media, I agree with that. Mainly because their questions are intended to keep the negativity out there and feed the narrative that she is untrustworthy and does not use good judgment.

But in last night’s forum, the question did not come (directly) from the media. Instead it came from a veteran/citizen. Should she have blown the question off in this case? Of course, the person asking the question was an admitted Republican. Otherwise, I think any voter interest the email has been exhausted.

It seems to me that the issue is just the *use* of the private server, for which she has apologized, acknowledged lessons learned AND which proved to be safer than GOVERNMENT servers… at least not hacked. I don’t believe there was any violation of procedures followed in disseminating information — especially of a classified nature. I don’t believe there is any danger of *her* putting classified information in unauthorized hands.

The media has a lot of blame in that they are constantly asking about — demanding answers about under the guise of FOIA — classified information, resorting to speculation when they don’t get an answer and presenting it as fact. That is just as bad as getting the classified information.

    • September 8, 2016 at 8:21 am

As to item 8…did anyone else catch Trumps slip when talking about his plans to defeat ISIS? I believe I heard him say, “If I come up with a plan,” or “When I come up a plan.” It immediately made me think that he doesn’t have a plan and is depending on the generals/joint chiefs (the ones he thinks are rubble; they’re the ones who are going to be there day 1) to come up with something. That whole thing about giving plans to the enemies is bull.

The number of vacant positions in the U.S. labor market climbed to an all-time high in July, according to a report published Wednesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

American employers were looking to fill nearly 5.9 million open jobs that month – a notable gain from June’s 5.6 million vacancies. The month of July over the last few years has shaped up to be a strong one for openings, as July 2015’s tally of 5.79 million vacancies held the previous record.

Openings were spread widely across sectors, with typically well-paying professional and business services employers and health care outfits looking to recruit 1.27 million and 962,000 new workers, respectively. Retail trade and leisure and hospitality companies, meanwhile, were looking to fill 627,000 and 763,000 positions, respectively.

“The strength of the consumer over the past year is evident in the industry breakdown of job openings,” Sam Bullard, managing director and senior economist at Wells Fargo Securities, wrote in a research note Sunday, highlighting the retail sector’s recent “jump in vacancies” and leisure and hospitality’s steady progress over the year.

    • September 8, 2016 at 10:21 am

Lauer is an ignorant. Goes by the general narratives on tv, doesn’t have any deep knowledge.

Those pundits are cowards and lazy, yes. But a big factor is their ignorance. You have to be knowledgeable to “think on your feet” and push back against Trump’s nonsense and shallowness with some efficiency.

Just imagine Fareed Zacharia interviewing Trump, throwing at him some precise questions and follow-ups…

    This seems about right:

The NBC Candidates Forum continued the shameful corporate coverage of the Great American Meltdown that is our election season. That season has given us a Faux Cable News that runs clips of only one side and pays out hush money to cover up how its blonde anchors were not so much hired as trafficked; a CNN that has hired a paid employee of the candidate as a consultant and analyst; and networks that won’t mention climate change or carbon emissions the same way they won’t mention labor unions. They aren’t even trying to do journalism any more– cable “news” is mostly infotainment as a placeholder between ads for toilet paper.

Not just cable news, ABC, NBC and CBS are the same……

Actually NBC has blurred those lines the most by co-mingling them with Stephanie Rule , Kate Snow, Katy Tur and Halle Jackson, and Willie Giest who appear on both cable and network news shows.

Cummings brought down the hammer in his commentary:

“This email exchange shows that Secretary Powell advised Secretary Clinton with a detailed blueprint on how to skirt security rules and bypass requirements to preserve federal records, although Secretary Clinton has made clear that she did not rely on this advice.

This email exchange also illustrates the longstanding problem that no Secretary of State ever used an official unclassified email account until the current Secretary of State.

The Republican obsession with Secretary Clinton has reached a fever pitch, and they have been using taxpayer resources to single her out in a desperate and abusive attempt to hurt her presidential campaign.

If Republicans were truly concerned with transparency, strengthening FOIA, and preserving federal records, they would be attempting to recover Secretary Powell’s emails from AOL, but they have taken no steps to do so despite the fact that this period — including the run-up to the Iraq War — was critical to our nation’s history.”

Morning all. In a few days, the A team will be out on the campaign trail for Hillary C. Michelle Obama, PBO, Elizabeth Warren, Bill C, and VP Biden will be speaking on her behalf in key states. All of them are veteran campaigners and they will outmatch and out work anyone or anything the pathetic Trump campaign has to offer. On the ground, thousands of campaign workers are putting in long hours for HRC using the most advanced analytical analyses that currently exist. The pro-Trump media would like nothing more than to discourage Dem turnout and demoralize our workers. Don’t let this happen. Whenever you feel anxious about the campaign, make another phone call, knock on some doors and dig deeper in your pockets.
