      this is a clarifying moment in time for millions of people around the world => where do we stand on core issues that we normally just automatically recite during our upbringing?

      Not sure what’s inspiring this rise in exclusion and faux nationalism. The US hasn’t been in this good shape economically in years and yet a major party nominated a corrupt and venal bigot with zero ability to govern anything and who is guaranteed to tank the economy so badly we may never recover. It’s horrifying–like living in a nightmare.

        the economic numbers do not lie which suggests that no matter how many try to twist their arguments justifying their positions, the honest motivation is “fear of the other”;

        many see the changes around them and they are afraid of all the stereotypes they have been taught so they rash out at what they don’t know instead of learning about our diverse humanity

      An active citizenry means you care about your country and have hope that your protest will bring change. If you don’t give a damn, nothing matters and you don’t even vote. Eventually the whole country goes to hell.

    Yesterday we put out our monthly newsletter and saw that there were organized campaign activities in our small county EVERY DAY thanks to the number of organizers the Clinton campaign has sent our way. This is a good sign of a campaign that takes its ground game seriously. Thanks to the bi-lingual organizer assigned to us there are parallel Latino outreach events in the city and ones in the suburbs–an advantage we did not have in 2012. For Latinos, this culminates in our Salsa the Vote rally the Sunday before election. To date, the only ‘organization’ I have seen from the Trump people is a lot of yard signs that conspicuously omit Pence’s name. If you’re in a swing state, check with your local party for all the many, many ways you can help in both the presidential race and all the down ticket ones.

    Morning everyone…Happy Labor Day to all of us that have labored over the years to provide for our families. Those that love what they do, and those that just do what they do….workers are important to all of us. Thank you.

    remember what FLOTUS told us: “Being president don’t change who you are; it reveals who you are”;

    no clear example of this than Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. He is newly elected and keeps pumping his ego up with crazy statements and is instilling fear in his citizenry using public executions of people he labels are “drug dealers”;

    a couple of points on this:

    – as history has demonstrated elsewhere, these killings are bound to extend to political opposition that is deliberately labeled as “drug dealers”;

    – the most previous leader off the Philippines has been actively seeking more US protection against China. who is this pompous Duterte gonna call when he faces the same (or bigger) challenges ?;

    – you can almost see the trajectory of this type of rule to a few years ahead when Duterte refuses to hand over power … I hope I am proved wrong

    People need to know.

    8 million students every year would lose Pell grants
    490,000 or more teacher positions could be eliminated
    $1.3 trillion in student loans would be at risk
    9 million low-income students would lose $15 billion of Title I funding annually
    5 million children and students with disabilities would lose $12.7 billion used every year to ensure that they receive a quality education
    750,000 or more students from military families, Native American students, students living in U.S. territories, and students living on federal property or Native American lands would lose $1.1 billion per year for their schools
    4,000 or more rural school districts would lose more than $175 million used annually to help improve the quality of teaching and learning in many hard-to-staff schools
    $700 million used by states to support the 5 million English language learners currently in public schools—representing close to 10 percent of all students—would be cut
    Click on individual states to see how they would be affected.

      So I would urge journalists to ask whether they are reporting facts or simply engaging in innuendo, and urge the public to read with a critical eye. If reports about a candidate talk about how something “raises questions,” creates “shadows,” or anything similar, be aware that these are all too often weasel words used to create the impression of wrongdoing out of thin air.

      And here’s a pro tip: the best ways to judge a candidate’s character are to look at what he or she has actually done, and what policies he or she is proposing. Mr. Trump’s record of bilking students, stiffing contractors and more is a good indicator of how he’d act as president; Mrs. Clinton’s speaking style and body language aren’t. George W. Bush’s policy lies gave me a much better handle on who he was than all the up-close-and-personal reporting of 2000, and the contrast between Mr. Trump’s policy incoherence and Mrs. Clinton’s carefulness speaks volumes today.

      Maybe the press on the plane should read this….

    Good morning TOD. Congrats, Don, on first!
    Many thanks to JER who posted that LOVELY photo of POTUS waving as he entered the International Expo Center.(2 threads back for those who don’t remember it) I’m going to blow that up and post it on the wall opposite my bedroom door so he can wave Hello to me every morning as I start my day. Maybe it will help with the withdrawal that is already starting for me.
    Many thanks to Nerdy Wonka for another outstanding string of photos and talks from the President’s China visit. It so helps with the lack of any mention by the MSM, not that I pay them any mind.
    And lots of hugs to our dear Chips and Danny. May they be healing and joy returning to their lives on a daily basis. They both so deserve it.
    May check in a bit later. PC crashed yesterday, so I’m trying to do this on my iPad until I can get the computer to the shop tomorrow. Why do things always seem to break and pets become sick just as all the shops, etc., close for a 3 day weekend? Seems to be the standard pattern at my house.

    WTF ?

    During interview FBI attempted to trick Hillary Clinton. It didn’t work.

    Courtesy of ABC News:

    In addition, the paragraphs were not properly marked, lacking a header or footer indicating they contained classified information. But before their interview with Clinton, FBI agents placed the appropriate header on one of the emails to see how she would respond.

    When confronted with the altered document, Clinton recognized the header and footer as indicating the presence of classified information, but she didn’t connect them to the “(C)” marking and said she didn’t think the email’s content was in fact classified. She questioned why it was marked as such, according to the FBI summary.

    To be clear not only did the FBI determine after the fact that multiple e-mails contained classified information though they were not classified at the time they were sent, an accusation refuted by the State Department, but then during the interview they also attempted to trip Clinton up by falsely marking the header of one her e-mails to see if she recognized what it meant.

    Not only did she recognize what the markings were, but she also determined that it was false and not reflective of the content of the e-mail.

    In fact we have never been told exactly why those few passages were marked with a “C” for classified in the first place, or whether or not they should have been marked that way.

    It also should be noted that for documents originating within the State Department the Secretary of State, in this case Hillary Clinton, has some control over what is, or is not, considered classified. So for many of them if she did not believe they were classified, then they weren’t.

    my plea about the senate and Dems this election:

    a number of people here expressed some worry about the senate race in Ohio;

    like I said, beginning labor day, all roads to the White House go through Ohio;

    a few days ago, VP Biden was in Ohio with senate Dem candidate former Governor Ted Strickland;

    https://twitter.com/Ted_Strickland/status/771381508850479105 ;

    Even Senator Elizabeth Warren has put her support behind this race;

    https://twitter.com/DavidPepper/status/771394559347535872 ;

    today, Sec HRC’s first stop is Ohio and senate Dem candidate former Governor Ted Strickland is at the center of the rally and he is being strongly supported by the Dem Senator Sherrod Brown;

    https://twitter.com/HillaryforOH/status/772858702114193408 ;

    during the previous two election cycles, Governor Strickland worked tirelessly in support of PBO & VP; he spent many hours crisscrossing the state looking for votes for the presidential ticket and other down-ballot races. among others, he is a strong support of Unions, healthcare (especially mental health), voting rights and criminal justice reform;

    So, my humble request is that if you have resources (time, money advocacy) to spare, then please consider supporting him in the remaining days of this campaign and we on the ground will bring it home for the Dems on Nov/8th;

    https://twitter.com/TheDemocrats/status/772112258994495488 ;
