GM from my world – and a delightful set of pictures to wake to on a slightly miserable Monday – because I have the dreaded lurgy again – I blame living with old folks 🙂 🙂

And – I might add – shame the chinese didn’t ban the “the travelling White House juggernaut” and leave them on the plane. They NEVER report on the trip, simply go for the ride while attacking the President at every opportunity.

I see our President continues to be the man to greet. Good to see you ‘doing your thing’, Mr. President….. in a meeting of world leaders as well as for the climate!

Lots of students, and teachers, will be heading back to school after Labour Day here. ‘Nice’ message below from PM Trudeau to some of them.

Hi Carolyn. Yea, JT makes me feel jealous (sounds so beautiful to me); not jealous enough to practise though. 😀

        GE Carolyn.

Wish the US had as great a commitment to our indigenous population as Canada does.

I think that if most Americans knew the appalling conditions of the public schools on Native American land, they would be shocked.

It’s a travesty that Native Americans are at the mercy of the federal government, while this nation pretty much turns a blind eye to their plight.

This guy is what makes my very lkely handsome-northern-American-heads-of-state withdrawals a bit more bearable. 🙂
Interestingly, I have been guessed to be Canadiana few times by my accent when I speak English. I have also never ever been to Canada. [/randomness]

Well, Nilia-t, it’s never too late – why don’t you come for a visit? I can’t guarantee that you’ll see PM Trudeau but if you came in any other season but winter, you probably could convince me to drive you up to see Parliament.

        • September 5, 2016 at 3:43 pm

I am actually half-considering to do a road trip with my best friend next summer (at least it was briefly thrown in as an option) so I´ll likely come back to you for suggestions. 🙂 Also, it´s probably no surprise that I am the kind of person to get super nerdy around parliament buildings… 🙂

            September 5, 2016 at 3:51 pm

‘a road trip’? Tell me you aren’t planning to *drive* here! 😀 😀 Seriously, summer sounds good. I myself am not good on travel ideas but I don’t mind driving. I can drive you and your friend to Ottawa (from Toronto) then you both can check out the Parliament buildings and other tours. I’m not a fan of museums. 🙂 🙂

            • September 5, 2016 at 3:54 pm

Well, we´ve driven around in Ireland (where people drive the wrong side of the road) , im Amsterdam (I thought THAT was bad) and on the motorway surrounding Paris. Driving in Canada cannot possibly worse than that 😀 But I´ll keep it in mind 🙂

No, driving here is good (we drive on the *right* side of the road) 😉 and our highway systems are okay. I’d say usually parking (not enough) is more of a problem that actually driving. 😀

Xenophobia is back in fashion in germany. This time it’s muslims.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-37271971

    • September 5, 2016 at 3:38 pm

While I too am disgusted by the success of the AfD in this state and generally the stupidity of voters in some areas, this statement doesn´t sit well with me and that doesn´t go against you, AMK. Xenophobia is a problem in some areas and it is a problem in certain social circles, but I resent to say it´s “In fashion in Germany” because that denies the effort of all those people welcoming refugees, helping to integrate them, protesting the Afd etc.etc andbasically going against all this nonsense.
Yes, we need to take people like the AfD seriously, yes, and partly they are so popular because we have a mentality of, by historic failing, we do not quite feel comfortable tackling very delicate topics, which allows those that do so (albeit wrongly) to draw a bottom-of-society-crowd of the uneducated, but I will never allow xenophobia to be seen as the only trend because I see the contrary in many instances all the time. That does not mean denying, it just means going against this particular statement. 🙂

      • 49 amk for obama
        September 5, 2016 at 8:50 pm

Ever since Merkel admitted refugees, she has been steadily losing ground to the far right. Same with Hollande even though he did jacksquat for refugees. And these two are among the biggest economic and political powerhouses of Europe. So, the trend is clearly there and is increasingly xenophobic.

        • September 6, 2016 at 11:44 am

I wasn´t taking issue with the trend as such being mentioned. i didn´t like it bein called a “fashion” since this suggests a whole broader mass of people behind it than tehre actually are.

The giant panda is no longer an endangered species, following decades of work by conservationists to save it.

The official status of the much-loved animal has been changed from “endangered” to “vulnerable” because of a population rebound in China.

The change was announced as part of an update to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.

But the update also brought bad news. The eastern gorilla, the world’s largest primate, is now endangered.

Efforts by China, which claims the giant panda as its national animal, have brought its numbers back from the brink. The latest estimates show a population of 1,864 adults.

There are no exact figures for the numbers of cubs, but estimates bring the total number of giant pandas to 2,060.

Heard a report on this from NPR this morning that included that China has instigated birthing Pandas in captivity then programming them to go back to the wild. The humans working in this program wear Panda suits soaked in Panda urine to help the pandas avoid knowing human contact.

    I know there a many scumbags and dictators and self-proclaimed strong men who need to lose power;

but as a start, if all of this crew of evil-to-the-core egomaniacs lost their current leadership positions, the world would be able to make huge strides towards peace:

    – putin

    – assad

    – Erdogan

    – lil’ kim

    – netanyahu

    – anyone else I have forgotten?

The results: Hillary Clinton is now winning in Ohio by four points, winning in Pennsylvania by seven points, winning in Virginia by six points, winning in Michigan by eight points, winning in New Hampshire by nine points, and also winning in North Carolina and Florida, according to the current polling averages from RealClearPolitics. In fact she’s now leading in every state which is traditionally considered to be a swing state. If the current numbers hold, she’ll win in an electoral college blowout.
