But I continuously try to filter out the nonsense [coming to TOD to vent, to get sane thoughts and FACTS, and to be reassured helps with the filtering process] and treat it with the annoyance that we would a gnat. In other words, shake it off, exhale, refocus, and keep moving forward.
I’m reading some pieces that suggest DSCC is pulling back on their ad money for Strickland. He’s trailing Portman by 8 points so they are holding off to see how things shape up. Not sure about that strategy. Let’s hope things improve but looks like we have to count on other seats for now.

Root’s plan would cut a large swath of Americans from the voter rolls: Roughly one in five Americans benefit from means-tested benefit programs, while 67 percent of women with private health insurance use copay-free contraception through the Affordable Care Act (which, by the way, is paid for by insurance companies, not by the federal government).
Root told Virginia radio host Rob Schilling yesterday that much of the energy behind Trump’s campaign, as he discusses in his new book “Angry White Male,” is that the country is “evenly divided between the makers and the takers,” so “the middle class is basically paying, paying, paying and the poor get everything free, and it’s a disaster.”

D.L. Hughley has had enough of Americans who get more upset by 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick sitting during the national anthem than by police brutality against black Americans.
While being interviewed by Chris Cuomo on CNN Tuesday, Hughley said that people are free to criticize Kaepernick, but he asked why they don’t speak up more when they see stories about police shooting unarmed black men.
“You’ll see people come out and say… they are opposed to what Kaepernick is doing,” he said. “None of those people come out and say anything when people are being brutalized.”
Hughley went on to say that many people are upset at Kaepernick because football is an escape from reality, and they don’t want to have that escape interrupted by serious political issues.

one problem is that Strickland had a primary election and challenger and portman did not;
but the major problem is what I wrote here a few months ago => the Ohio Dem party has a huge internal struggle with the “old guard” holding onto power and selecting candidates from within their own ranks.
One such candidate was put up to run against kaisch and yet he had some personal issues. so when these were exposed, his candidacy failed, he not only lost the election but took the down-ballot candidates down with him. his failure gave kaisch a land-slide win and he used it to consolidate power among Ohio GOP.
Personally, I think that the Ohio senate race is not yet lost because the national campaign is not yet here in full blast. the race will be hard fought starting after labor day when routinely all roads to the White House must go through Ohio.

furthermore, the USCIS is doing a fantastic job of processing these citizenship application. for example, before where one such application was processed over 6 months or so, now the turn around is about 1 month.
a few weeks ago, I attended a Naturalization ceremony:
– it was one of 4 ceremonies happening in this location in a period of 1 month.
– during this single ceremony, 220 people took their oath of citizenship.
– the presiding judge said that there were people from 39 different countries in that single ceremony.
– to put it into perspective, this is a city in the Midwest were the number of immigrants is not that huge.
– the person I accompanied has already got their voter registration card (i saw it) because you could not take the oath before completing your application to vote.
one person at the ceremony said during the informal reception that the USCIS held that: “i don’t know if trump clearly understands what is going to hit him come election day”. these are some of the people who may not necessarily show up in the polls but are determined to vote this November

Ohio Senate race:
I live in this ultimate swing state.
there is a lot of gop money pouring into the state to support former GWB key official portman.
portman-supporting Ads against Strickland have been running non-stop for months. they have focused on accusing his record as governor when the economic collapse occurred during the recession.
little mention is made of the fact that the recovery that is being assigned to kaisch had already begun when Strickland was defeated. actual Strickland and PBO policies (including stimulus and auto rescue) are related to the OH recovery and this has been reported by independent economists.
for some reason, Strickland just started advertising just 2 or 3 weeks ago and this was widely reported in the local media;
one problem is that Strickland had a primary election and challenger and portman did not;
but the major problem is what I wrote here a few months ago => the Ohio Dem party has a huge internal struggle with the “old guard” holding onto power and selecting candidates from within their own ranks.
One such candidate was put up to run against kaisch and yet he had some personal issues. so when these were exposed, his candidacy failed, he not only lost the election but took the down-ballot candidates down with him. his failure gave kaisch a land-slide win and he used it to consolidate power among Ohio GOP.
Personally, I think that the Ohio senate race is not yet lost because the national campaign is not yet here in full blast. the race will be hard fought starting after labor day when routinely all roads to the White House must go through Ohio.
Thanks very much for this report. I’ll continue to keep a close eye on this race and see what develops. We need to do what we can to WIN.
it was your concern above (about what the state of this OH Sen race),that made me try to explain what is going on locally;
it is also important to know that Ohio is one of those states that still have a robust unionized workforce. the members of the union like Strickland because he protected them throughout his tenure and he was also the leader of the campaign against kasich’s push to make Ohio a right to work state.
the unions and their supporters won this fight with such a huge margin that kaisch almost cried as he conceded that defeat.
unfortunately kaisch also learned from that fight that he could hide behind his gop-dominated legislature and just sign crappy rightwinger laws when they are finalized.
in spite of what he pretends and the media pushes kasich is no moderate

From what Costa said on RMS, it may not be as last minute as the DT and his campaign are trying to make it sound. It may have been in the works for at while. why do people ignore the fact that not all immigrants are from Mexico?
most immigrant communities, no matter their country of origin, are threatened by the speech and actions of the home-grown demagogue and will vote against him this November;
in addition, so many people who had previously not finalized their citizenship have been doing so in huge numbers since he started to run.
furthermore, the USCIS is doing a fantastic job of processing these citizenship application. for example, before where one such application was processed over 6 months or so, now the turn around is about 1 month.
a few weeks ago, I attended a Naturalization ceremony:
– it was one of 4 ceremonies happening in this location in a period of 1 month.
– during this single ceremony, 220 people took their oath of citizenship.
– the presiding judge said that there were people from 39 different countries in that single ceremony.
– to put it into perspective, this is a city in the Midwest were the number of immigrants is not that huge.
– the person I accompanied has already got their voter registration card (i saw it) because you could not take the oath before completing your application to vote.
one person at the ceremony said during the informal reception that the USCIS held that: “i don’t know if trump clearly understands what is going to hit him come election day”. these are some of the people who may not necessarily show up in the polls but are determined to vote this November

I will only add that while I was talking with him and he mentioned in passing that due to yesterday’s bronchoscopy procedure, his throat was still raw, his nose also still hurt, and he thought they almost knocked a tooth out … I said, “Isn’t it wonderful that in what you just said there’s no mention of anything related to your lung or chest???!!!” – and we laughed!
