Started my day by hearing my outdoor watering system running at the wrong time. It had been running for two plus hours gushing from my faucet from the plastic connector having sheared off. I quickly turned the faucet off. I pay a fee for extra water usage so have a supposedly water conserving drip system. Bad start to my day.
The good part was when I unexpectedly gathered a large bowl of large ripe strawberries from my plants I thought were one time ripening plants. I guess one of the plants was an everbearing variety and it has spread. A dish of fresh ripe strawberries mixed with nonfat Greek yogurt can turn a bad start into a good day!
Contact your water dept tomorrow and tell them about the broken faucet. Sometimes they will waive part of your water bill, since it wasn’t you actually over using the water. At least that’s what works where I am, even when we are on water restrictions with a drought. It is worth the try.
Thank you so much for providing This Week In Interior, VC. Perhaps you should write to your new Prime Minister, maybe he can invite you to your capitol to discuss it.
Annieb, this is what I always ask myself – Why do they *never* contact the idiots responsible for the slow processing? Like you, I wouldn’t mind if they gripe to the president if they ALSO got the others involved. I’d be appeased if they even included ONE sentence saying they knew if was McConnell and Ryan’s fault, BUT could the president help. That way when the letters do get published some mud would at least fall on those obstructing. Grrrrr!
I have a friend that told me she wrote the President, but did not hear back. I asked her what she wrote about? It was about a neighbor not able to get his land rezoned for a business he wanted to start. This lady is supportive of PBO and pretty smart normally. Why do people think the President can solve everything instead of finding out whom the problem needs to be solved by? It was obviously a state/local issue.
Shorter Dan Pfeiffer: The president is an honest, grown-ass man who does not need praise and adulation, nor does he have time for the bullshit of deal-making. It is amazing to me that the beltway press has a problem with a man who is busy working hard and solving problems. All that they know and expect of politicians is glad-handing and scratch-my-back-and-I-will-scratch-yours back room deals. The GOP and the Beltway press hate PBO because when they compare themselves to him they know that they come up wanting.
You hit the nail on the head, CEB. But not just the GOP and Beltway press are jealous and hateful because PBO is so much better at everything than they are– a lot of plain old American citizens have the same affliction. Instead of feeling, and behaving, proud and grateful and effing thrilled to have a sane, intelligent, big-hearted, hard-working president, they sulk and scream that’s it’s not fair. ‘It’ being whatever PBO is/does. So childish and immature and pathetic and infuriating! Not to mention debilitating for our system of government.
Thank you for sharing this Alycee. I didn’t know this history. I always thought our national Anthem should be changed to America The Beautiful by Ray Charles
Can’t bring myself to click on a link to GGreenwald’s publication, but on the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner two years ago posted a comment here about how what a staunch anti-abolitionist Key was.

http://wtop.com/dc/2016/08/passes-new-smithsonian-museum-opening-weekend-gone-minutes/
Free timed entry passes to the opening weekend for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture quickly disappeared after they became available Saturday morning — leading some frustrated pass-seekers to vent on social media.A limited amount of passes, allowing visitors hourly, 15-minute entry windows for the Sept. 24-25 opening weekend, became available online and by phone at 9 a.m., but the passes went like hotcakes. In fact, by 9:14 a.m., all the passes for Sept. 24 — when President Barack Obama is expected to headline a formal dedication ceremony — were gone.
Heartening that passes were grabbed up so quickly. Thanks for the heads up on PBO’s attendance on Sept. 24.
You probably know this, since you were so recently in DC, but unless things have changed since I was last there, all federal museums on the Mall were free, including the various Smithsonian museums. Heard lots of foreign languages when I visited a few museums — might be a selling point for international tourists.
…… and to prioritize this on the anniversary of the very same day that one of the greatest human being, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, stood in Washington and was a voice for the voiceless;
Does she know about the I have a Dream speech and the hundreds of thousands who gathered that day to support Dr. King as he voiced the concerns of the voiceless;
Insulin is fast becoming a medication that only the well-insured or well-heeled diabetic can afford.
With the price of insulin more than tripling in a decade, some diabetics are having to make tough choices about how to pay for the medication. In some cases, diabetics are cutting back or even going without the drug. Many of the 26 million Americans with diabetes must use insulin daily to treat the disease, or else risk illnesses such as kidney failure and disabilities such as blindness.
While American diabetics may have faced monthly costs of $100 to $200 several years ago, some are now grappling with costs of $400 to $500 per month.
Good evening, TOD! Finally recovered from yesterday’s road trip/TOD mini-meet…
Terrie and I had a marvelous drive to Lebanon, PA where we “crashed” JackieG’s Fiesta Latina. The festival was M-A-R-V-E-L-O-U-S! Jackie is the driving force behind this event, sponsored by the Lebanon County Dems. This was the fifth year that she has put on the Fiesta as an outreach tool to the diverse Lebanon Latina community. Not only does she fundraise all year, she also has found local business sponsors. There was something for everyone — activities for the kids; info tents from a variety of non-profits, civil/human rights groups, and government agencies; entertainment that was first rate; and new this year — Latina Idol, talented kids & adults!
You ladies look marvelous. Looks like a good time was had by everyone. Jackie is a power house. (((hugs))) to all for sharing yesterday with her. Woot!!! Ladies.
Thank you for posting the pictures, Alycee! I had such a fantastic time spending the day with you and meeting Jackie G. Jackie G is incredible in putting this event together every year. I got home around 10:30PM and went straight to sleep. I finally am catching up with TOD!
Thank you so much for sharing the photos. After hearing about this for so many years it is great to experience it! Jackie, you are AMAZING! You go girl! Great example of what persistence and dedication can accomplish. You are a role model for all of us!
INOR! Don’t know about you, but I paint a mental picture of the folks here at TOD. Sometimes I’m spot on. In Jackie’s case, physically, she’s the exact opposite of my 5’8″ mental picture! LOL That petite lady is a dynamo! She ruled the roost with an iron glove and gracious smile! I’m so happy we were able to join the festivities!
Broke my foot July 3rd. Clean break; no surgery required, however, slow healing due to prolonged steroid use. Should be able to get rid of the air cast on September 6th.
I agree about the mental pictures thing. But then I learned with those who I met in DC. Most were so much better than my old pictures in my head.
And, ouch! about the foot. At least you can walk on it. When I did mine I was in a wheelchair for 6 weeks. Yuck! Hey, only 9 more days till the cast is off! Holding good thoughts for the visit with the Doc.
Yes, thanks for asking her Terri. I think his doctor’s appt, or the next procedure is tomorrow, the 29th. Sending you hugs and love and prayers that this time works for him Jacqueline. We are all pulling for him to be over and done with all this.
Jackie, it was such a pleasure meeting you yesterday. It’s amazing how much energy and joy you take in putting this together. It was great to see that the community really seem to enjoy it, too.
My, how your fiesta has grown – looking very good, JackieG! 😀 I have memories of you asking for TOD virtual support your first year, and then reporting back that it was time consuming, very tiring, but fun. You and your group have come a long way, JG. God bless you for your persistent involvement and care for your neighbourhood!
Jackieg, KUDOS to you once again for creating this lovely space for the Latino community to have fun and share the importance of civic responsibility with their families. You are an amazing leader and I can’t thank you enough for galvanizing the vote with such imagination and creativity. ADELANTE!!
And thanks to Alycee for posting all the photos and sharing this experience with you.
Thanks amk!! This is a great article because you can click on any state or territory (that is in blue text) and it will take you to their Voter Registration page to read all the details about how to register, what to bring on election day, etc.
ONE ERROR though, Minnesota is listed twice on the list. (Don’t ask. My brain is strange that way, ok?) Oct 18th is in error. According to that state’s registration page, you can register to vote on election day. Otherwise this is a great article to pass on to everyone you know.

Hello all. Saw ‘Southside With You’ this afternoon. Loved it!!!!! To everyone–do not miss it. As I said on Judith’s Facebook post, most of the story I knew. However, the movie gave me new insight into both of them–their thinking and processing, sharing of those thoughts to each other; how open and ‘pure’ their relationship was from the beginning. Also saw the consistency of who they both were then and they are the same people today.
Y’all! Y’all! Y’ALL!!! -RUN… DON’T WALK (:lol:) and GO SEE and SUPPORT Southside With You. IT. IS. FABULOUS X A GAJILLION. GG, Jojo and I went to see it this evening. So, so, so, good, so well written, so well acted. It was like seeing young Barack and Michelle, the actors and the writing WERE THAT GOOD. I won’t post any spoilers but there is one powerful scene in the movie in particular, where I turned to GG and said THAT”S MY PRESIDENT. You can see the man he is today from that one scene. Oh and also stay THRU the end credits to see all the glory of and majesty of Ernie Banks’ art. Can’t wait for the DVD to add to my library. CAN’T WAIT FOR THE SEQUEL!!!! 😆 😆 😆
Definitely worth carving out a few minutes on Thurs for your and Moms to see this Alycee. I had a big old grin on my face thru pretty much the entire move. And I’m still grinning. And like I said above, stay through the credits to see Ernie Banks’ art. Just does the heart good! 😆
Greetings Alycee I read about your wonderful trip with terri to see the Fiesta and JackieG. It sounded fantabulous. Sorry I missed it. But perhaps we can hook up to see the movie and have a Lil dinner afterwards. I will be back in from vacation on Friday
Well that answers my question from up above. Teach me to read the whole thread before posting a query. You all look FABULOUS! Good to see your smiling faces. 🙂

And if not, you can try bribing them with fresh strawberries 🙂
Hey – congratulations, OG!
Thanks! I was just checking in after being in my garden all morning.
There you are, Ms NerdyW! I’ve been looking out for you. 🙂
Thank you so much for providing This Week In Interior, VC. Perhaps you should write to your new Prime Minister, maybe he can invite you to your capitol to discuss it.
TVW. Now, that’s a thought, Terri. I wonder if he answers a few letters like PBO does? Hmmmmm.
You can always write and remind him that President Obama does this, and he might start, if he hasn’t all ready.
😀 Just what I was thinking – show him that his (possible) mentor does it.
Hmmm. I wonder why this would not be available in my country? /teeth gritted….grrr/
Hello TOD Community on a Sunday Afternoon.
Congrats to Obama Grandmama on your Furst Au ⭐
NW, Thank you. You simply, Rock! 🍸
{{{{ ❤ Chips ❤ }}}}
Thanks, you too!
Why not write a letter to Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell and her Senator and Congressman or woman.
I am not saying she should have not wrote the President, but we have to put pressure on these sorry do nothing House members and Senators.

Congress should have been contacted when they left for their two months vacation without giving the money the President asked for to deal with Zika.
