It will be the first time in 16 years I have seen my Brother and his family. Should be fun. But I am sure I can get away for a noonish lunch or just coffee. let me know. You can get my email from Nerdy. Hoping to get together with some of you. (((hugs))) Roberta

I wonder if the guy with the briefcase walking behind President Obama has the nuclear codes. This guy is carrying the codes and I’m stuck walking with a grocery list that my wife gave me, somewhere somehow my life got off-track.

Looking at some of those comments…

Whenever RWers blame the Democrats for blocking funding, Dems need to push back HARD to expose the GOP’s dirty tactic of putting poison pills in bills to keep them from getting a straight up-or-down vote. The media will never call the GOP out. The Press Secretary or VP should do it and continue to push on it.

GM everyone. Congrats Roberta on first, and I hope you get to meet up with some of us in Chicago. Have a lovely time visiting with your family.

I was thinking, looking at the above pics, that it must be so hard for POTUS to make these visits to Walter Reed. To see young people injured, with lost limbs or eyes or whatever. To know how their lives will be changed forever because of their sacrifice for our country. it must affect him so deeply, and yet he keeps on keeping on with everything he has to bear as our leader. He has one of the biggest, most kind hearts I think I have ever seen in a person. We are truly blessed to have him as our president.

      August 27, 2016 at 9:48 am

Totally agree. I respect him so much for making these visits throughout his presidency. Republicans only want the pageantry and the slogans as if the military is a monolith and not made up of fellow citizens who have hopes and dreams and loved ones as they do. They shield themselves from the true cost of war. Our PBO has never shied away from his full duty; doing everything that he can to prevent wars, to deploying troops smartly with an end goa,l and caring for them when they return. When he goes to bases overseas he visits the units whose duty it is to prepare the deceased troops to return them to their families, he receives them when they come home, and visits those who are wounded, and provides ladders to help them reintegrate into society. There are so many reasons to love and respect our president, but the way in which he handles his role as CIC is one of the major ones.

    • August 27, 2016 at 12:04 pm

This was at least President Obama’s 26th visit to Walter Reed, more than any other POTUS. He surely knows the cost of war and makes it a priority to honor them and their families.

‘This was at least President Obama’s 26th visit to Walter Reed’

Put like this Meta, it suddenly occurred to me ‘How come Knoller doesn’t count and publish these actions of the president (not that PBO would want him to)? Hmmmmm.

Thank you all for the congrats. cd4biden, I hope to get together with some of you also. Just posted that for a heads up and will let everyone know when I have booked my train and when the activities will be at my Nephews. I haven’t been to Chicago since 1984. Long time. It should be interesting. I am sure I will need an escort. LOL.

My thoughts are Trump knew it was customary to publish his tax returns for many years if you run for President. When he told one journalist it is none of your business he was out of line. If his tax returns show secrets he does not want to divulge he should have decided not to run for the office.

That’s like the plot of every movie I’ve seen growing up. Wayward young white girl from a very affluent family gets mixed up with a disillusioned hardened youth with a criminal past, they meet and the sparks fly.

Several independent studies have confirmed what is intuitively obvious, and frankly, staggering: Donald Trump receives more favorable national media coverage than Hillary Clinton. Just ask Mark Halperin, the quintessential media insider, who recently conceded: “There’s a deep well of anti-Clinton sentiment in the press.” The national media are stumped by Trump, seeking false “balance” (and clicks) out of deference to his voters. Yet somehow, that deference is absent in Hillary’s case; she and her voters are maligned and marginalized at every turn. This open letter proposes a solution to the imbalanced coverage.

Just what did SOS Hillary Clinton do to the media? I am not stumped by Trump, as I wasn’t by Snowden. Trump is transparent, what I see is a whole lot of nothing but evil, self loving, without decency human.

This is an interesting article on Hillary’s leadership style developed during her time at Wellesley, with emphasis on her senior year when she was president of the student body. Her style there appears remarkably similar to what we see today.

Thanks for sharing, FfTX. Interesting to get an ‘inside’ look at HRC. Also interesting to discover she was also a ‘student’ of Alinsky. So now US will get the student who didn’t choose the ‘community organizer’ route but who also has more to offer than the GOP.

Social media fires back at Trump for tweet about Dwyane Wade’s cousin
    August 27, 2016, 10:13 am

Donald Trump is facing heavy criticism on social media for his response to reports that NBA star Dwyane Wade’s cousin was fatally shot in Chicago on Friday.

“Dwayne Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!,” he tweeted on Saturday morning.

The tweet is in line with Trump’s recent minority outreach attempts. He has specifically included rhetoric in his rally speeches that he hopes will appeal to black voters, including asking them “what do you have to lose” by voting for Trump.
“Look at how badly things are going under decades of Democratic leadership — look at the schools, look at the 58 percent of young African-Americans not working,” Trump said to black voters at a rally in North Carolina last week.

But many have pointed to Trump’s tweet as tone deaf and opportunistic in light of the tragic death, and criticized him for misspelling Dwyane Wade’s name in the tweet.

Another very effective department in the Obama administration. The CFPB has been kicking ass on behalf of consumers from day one. This discrimination in how banks give loans has been known about for years; so glad that something is finally being done about it.

Watch: Did Okla. Police Go Too Far By Pepper Spraying an 84-Year Old Woman?
About 40 seconds elapsed before Muskogee, Okla., police pepper sprayed 84-year-old Geneva Smith.
    Posted: August 27, 2016

Muskogee, Okla. police are investigating a pepper-spray incident involving an 84-year-old woman in her home.

Fox 23 reports that officers were looking for Geneva Smith’s son last week when it occurred. He ran into his home where police used a Taser on him.

Smith then came out to see what was going on and one of about four to six officers asked her to turn around. The video shows that about 40 seconds elapsed before they sprayed Smith in the face after which she immediately went down.

NewsOn6 reports that family members said Smith had to go to the hospital. They’re demanding an apology from the police department.
