        Each week I have fun retweeting about U.S. lands and parks, none of which I’ve visited. If I could get a chance to visit only *THIS* one National Park in the next 70 or so days I’d consider myself in heaven on earth! Dear genie/wish-grantor/God/fate/? : are you listening?

    Joy Reid Shuts Down Guestโ€™s โ€˜Incredibly Offensiveโ€™ Smear of Planned Parenthood
    Published on Aug 27, 2016

    One thing that guests on Joy Reidโ€˜s new weekend program AM Joy are learning is that Joy Reid does not play. Although sheโ€™s probably among the most genial hosts on cable TV, one regular feature of the show is Reid firmly calling out guests who argue in bad faith or persistently evade, or as it happened Saturday morning, try and sneak through a turd or two.

    While discussing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trumpโ€˜s popularity with the racist โ€œalt-right,โ€ pro-Trump guest Alfonso Aguilar tried to make an insinuation about Planned Parenthood, and like Gandalf standing on some cable news bridge of stone, Reid made it clear that he Shall. Not. Pass.

    Howdy TOD! Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend ๐Ÿ˜Ž

    From the CIA Museum: “To rescue six American diplomats who evaded capture during the seizure of the United States embassy in Tehran, Iran, on 4 November 1979, CIA technical specialists created a fake movie-production company in Hollywood and delivered disguises and documents that made possible the diplomatsโ€™ escape from Iran in 1980.” The CIA team set up โ€œStudio Six.

    I understand Leslie jones started in ghostbusters… And I understand the old SNL crew did a masterful job in the 80s version.
    But why are people giving Leslie jones a hard time?

    Doesn’t make sense. And by hard time… I mean harassment.

      GM Jovie, hope you see replies to your posts.

      It doesn’t make sense because it’s an *alt-right* initiative.

      From the article:

      “‘What the #AltRight means is that whites no longer are going to cower and will defend our own race,’ wrote one supporter, who tweets under the handle Identitarian. ‘The #AltRightโ€™s message isnโ€™t one of hate, but one of love: Whites learning to love and support our own race.’

      That means different things to different people. The umbrella movement encompasses everyone from veteran neo-Nazis to menโ€™s rights activists to ‘intellectuals’ who want to create a white ‘ethno-state’ to a troll army of anonymous students who claim they are puncturing political correctness by heaping racist abuse upon black Ghostbusters actress Leslie Jones or anti-Semitic abuse upon Jews.”

          When my granddaughter stayed with me for a bit, I’d occasionally tell her I had to watch an episode of “Hoarders,” before cleaning. She asked if I liked that show. I told her not really, but it reminds me WHY we clean – big motivation!!! (I’m not a hoarder – don’t worry! Words and people mean more to me than possessions, any old day.)

Problem for me is that I get easily bored with it and because I have no immediate plans to move I procrastinate. /whisper – filed my 2014 tax early June, after I got a personal reminder from gov’t. We used a tax agent for the past 20 years – Best money I ever spent – and it’s deductible. I did have to keep all the receipts etc – which is why I had SO MUCH STUFF to shred. Our govt decided they’d fine you for lodging late – even if you were owed a return – they like to hit on the little guy – just like a few other countries.

                      Yea, they fine us here too, only not if you are owed a return. A friend of mine speaks highly of her tax agent – who always manages to get her a refund & other ‘great’ services. Sadly the one time I used him I had to PAY the government $200+ AND coincidentally him $200+ too. Since then I buy an annual online tax program ….. which costs much less than $200! ๐Ÿ˜€

    this election has revealed a number of things to me but today I feel like I need to jot down here a few words about Peter Thiel;

    some of you may remember first hearing about Peter Thiel when he:

    (a) spoke in Cleveland and endorsed the homegrown demagogue;

    (b) sponsored hulk hogan and bankrupted gawker;

    I listened to my parents enough to know that you should not destroy many people when you think you are making progress or are on the “top of the world” because you will need people to hold you up when you stumble and fall from grace;

    Thiel, is one of those new-money dudes who is estimated to be worth about 2.5 billion. History has a record of those who have been even richer and ended up with nothing.

    At 48 years old, I wonder what his future will be. For his sake, I hope he never stumbles because he may see how quickly those who now praise him will then scorn him and eat his lunch

    CNN had some black guy who suppose to have been involve in civil rights. The guy was on the show who said he supported Trump because Trump was a business man.Do this guy knows how many times Trump have file for bankruptcy.

    • 67 hopefruit2
      August 27, 2016 at 6:25 pm

      I don’t think CNN cares what this guy knows or doesn’t know about Trump. All they care is that he has Black skin and says that he will vote for Trump. They don’t care that he may be a paid operative. They don’t care that he’s one of the 1% of Blacks who support Trump. They’re only interested in using him to bolster Trump’s claim that he’s reaching out to African-Americans, and that he has support in the African-American community.

      The media exists to serve the wants and needs of the conservative/GOP/Republican political wing – regardless of who the candidate is, because those who own the media benefit from the policies of that party.

        August 27, 2016 at 6:58 pm

        exactly! if things were the opposite right now and democrats were tanking and in trouble, do people really think “the news” would be covering and lying for the democrats, and falsely tearing down republicans to ensure a “horserace?!?!” of course they wouldn’t be doing that. they’d still be promoting republicans even if their candidate was far in the lead right now. “ratings” have nothing to do with itโ€ฆtheir job now is to promote republican ideology on the voters, and to diminish democrats everywhere. it’s that simple.

    How GOP austerity helped create Trump

    The conservative media canโ€™t stop complaining that weโ€™re in the midst of the worst recovery since World War II โ€” despite the fact that itโ€™s likely that more private sector jobs will be created in President Obamaโ€™s second term than have ever been created in four years under any Republican.

    But conservatives arenโ€™t complaining, theyโ€™re bragging.

    A little-noticed report from the Economic Policy Institute earlier this month should have been national news, but was drowned out the sturm und drang of the campaigns and low-grade trauma generated by Donald Trumpโ€™s constant toxic mix of abuse and gaslighting.

    Hereโ€™s the conclusion EPI came up with as it examined the role government investment has played in the last four recoveries:

    The recovery since 2009 has been historically slow, and the disappointing pace can be explained entirely by the fiscal austerity imposed by Republicans in Congress.

    • 83 pkayden
      August 28, 2016 at 8:38 am

      Republicans have done everything to hurt President Obama’s legacy. It’s amazing the depths they will go through to damage a Democratic President even if it means that the American people are harmed also.

One of the funniest lines Chris Rock did in one of his stand-up routines in 2008 was something like: “If Barack Obama is elected President of the United States, I hope none of you white people think black people are going to show up for work the next day. Hell, no.” โค

      I Hope that on November 8, African American voters will answer Donald Trump’s arrogant and insulting question by voting for Hillary Clinton in record numbers. Like many of the entitled white supremacists, Donald Trump thinks that he, a superior white man, knows the interests of African Americans better than the African Americans themselves.

    Bougie Movie Review: Southside with You
    August 27, 2016 in movies

    After having our male movie-watching partners roll their eyes at us, one of my galpals from way, way back in the day and I headed out to see Southside with You. Armed with diet soda and a small buttery popcorn, we dashed into a mostly empty matinee showing of the 90-minute film.

    First of all, it’s beuatifully shot. I’ve been to Chicago many a time and have more than a passing fondness for it (except in winter) but this film made me want to go back and spend some time.

    Parker Sawyer is uncanny as a young, slightly cocky, coming-into-his-own Barack Obama. He has the cadence, the mannerisms and je-ne-sais-quoi that we’ve come to associate with our 44th president. Tika Sumpter plays Michelle as attracted-in-spite-of-herself, struggling with the reality of what corporate/legal life is like vs. what she wants to make of herself. A few minutes in, you forget you are watching actors play a role and instead feel you are getting a peek into something personal and special.

    DES MOINES, Iowa โ€“ Donald Trumpโ€™s experiment with โ€œsofteningโ€ his immigration policy came to a dramatic end Saturday in a fairgrounds livestock pavilion, with the Republican presidential nominee promising deportations within an hour of his inauguration.

    โ€œWe are going to rid of the criminals, and itโ€™s going to happen within one hour after I take office,โ€ he said. โ€œWe will move justly, but we will move fast. Believe me.โ€
